Beary good game :^)

A very polished experience. The art is insane. So much drawing, so little time. How is it possible @_@. I only had to draw 7 faces and at that point I was already spent... this game has gorgeous backgrounds, UI, a billion fishes (HOW DID YOU DRAW ALL OF THOSE), and even fun hats 😭

The audio isn't anything groundbreaking but it serves its purpose very well.

The gameplay is simple but very engaging. I love collectathons and I like how this game approached the genre. Figuring out how to make the special fishes was surprisingly intuitive. The scary fishes turning into hats did take me out for a second because it was unreasonably hilarious to me. Who came up with that idea ðŸ˜ Someone had to think "Wait, what if the player puts the demon fish in the bait bucket?" and someone had to go "Oh, right. Good point... let it become a hat for the bear"

The game is a great package. Great work :)

Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words!!!
We  had 3 artists working on the game,  wouldnt have made it otherwise haha.

That was my exact thought process when I was designing the mechanics, I thought it would be kind of unsatisfying if you caught one of the rarest fish and then barely got a payoff for it... and it would be sad if it JUST spammed your inventory, so I thought hats might be a good idea...even if it's kind of goofy 😂😂 I'm really glad someone noticed!

The art is so soft and cute, bravo!

The fishing game is satisfying too. I kept baiting the hook with different colors and combo and wasn't getting anything new, maybe I was unlucky?

Developer

Thank you so much for playing!

Yes, both the amount and color of the bait matters. More red bait increases the chance for rarer red fish (decreasing the chances for lower star fish!), same for the other colors. There's even a special combination, you'll notice that you have the correct one if the frame changes how it looks!
So it seems like you were mostly unlucky, unfortunately :')

What fishes were you missing in the book?

I don't remember, I think I had maybe 7 or 8 types? Nothing above 3* though.

I HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH THIS GAME ;A; words can't describe it - from the beautiful art to the simplicity of the rhythm popping, to collecting all the fishies. it was all put together so wonderfully! I THINK maybe adding little tunes for the bubble popping would be a nice touch but not necessarily needed :) Altogether amazing game, congratulations on this submission !!!

So. the art was already next level, but then I spotted the carved bear holding a fix on the popup frame and my mind was blown. The audio/music matches the game very well too. Great work!

Very beautiful and cozy game!
It will be better to have spacebar for start fishing instead of mouse click.

Also, the fallen leaves feels like all spawned at the same spot, it will look better if you can spread it out more.

Just a question, but does the bait affect what fish we can catch?

Game loop is simple and addictive, will be better if have some consequences like losing fish, else player can just spam space bar without any timing.

Developer

I see where you're coming from with pressing spacebar instead of using mouse click, it would definitely continue the flow of the gameplay better :)

Yes, the bait affects the catch. Putting more bait in means a higher likelyhood of getting rare fish (decreasing the chance of lower ranked fish in turn!) and the color of the bait affects the likelyhood of what color fish will bite.

Losing the fish when spamming would have been a good consequence that we hoped to add, but unfortunately ran out of time for... but we're hoping to add it after the jam! Thanks for playing!

the art is so pretty and cohesive! the bear character has such a charming, cute design and the jam’s palette complements her so well. unique fishing mechanic, too! it’s satisfying to pop those bubbles, and I’m a big fan of collecting the fish.

although, I’d find it more comfortable to be able to fish by only pressing space and not needing to click on the bear, as it feels clunkier that way. fun game! :>

HOLYYYY, ITS SO PRETTYYYY!!!

The gameplay loop is the simplest but holy moly, I am addicted. I have to sleep... its 3AM... please let me sleep mayble... well get the fish tomorrow....

anyways, PEAK GAME!!! From the art, to the sound, to the amount of fish I can get, polished 10/10

The polish and art here is top tier, the art is beautiful and the UI ties perfectly into the immersion. The opening cutscene is wonderfully done, and what a fantastic use of the color palette overall. I couldn't get the bait to work (was clicking on it not the way to interact?) but it could totally be a browser thing. I loove a good collection game, and the beautiful fish art is a huge part of what makes that so satisfying. :D

Developer

Thank you so much for all the praise!

Using the bait should work by clicking and dragging the fish you want to use to the bait bucket. While hovering over the bucket it's also supposed to show a little preview of how much bait you will get out of it.

Hope that works, but if not, may I ask what browser you're using?

Phenomenal work! great gameplay, nice and chill, and an interesting take on a fishing mechanic I haven't seen before.

It would be nice if you combined the input for left click and space bar so that they could both trigger the start fishing and pop bubbles, as swapping back and forth can be a little annoying. I also noticed that when the fish journal is up on screen, the mouse cursor still changes based on whats behind the journal.

SO CUTE! I love sleepy mayble <3 Game is so beautiful and I love all the colors. I especially love the animation of opening the book with mayble's little paw!!

Great job on this! The art style is fantastic — the main character design is a standout, and you nailed the use of the jam's palette. Took me a second to get the hang of the controls, not gonna lie, but reading the tutorial more carefully totally sorted me out.

Man the art is gorgeous! love the little book that you can fill up!

Visuals and sound effects are really good! Liked the combination of fishing and rhythm game mechanics, good job!

Very nice art and use of the colour palette. Super satisfying fishing game. Well done!

Game is super cute! The opening illustrations are very expressive, I loved them! The game art, fishes & sfx are super satisfying too! Very fun game ðŸ˜„

Do believe it is safe to say we have one of the gamejam's winners. Amazing all around, the art is otherworldly good, the fishing mechanic is spot on and quite original,  fits the theme etc. etc. All around just love it.

Jam's limitation maybe was not as felt as much, but on the other hand it is supposed to be seamless so maybe I just didn't notice or play long enough.

Also didn't find any of the promised secret hats. :(

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and enjoying our game!! <3
We took the limitation more liberally, the music loops and you can basically fish forever by repeating the fishing mini game :D

The hats are little tricky to find, they are connected to the rarest fishes (the dark entry boxes in the fish log book). Let me know if you want more hints on how to find them!

I had some similar issues to others with the browser and downloaded versions  being sized weirdly, but loved what I saw! The art is excellent and so appealing, and I loved the fun touches like the fish descriptions. The bubble popping mechanic felt very satisfying, I kinda got disappointed when the fish appeared because I wanted to keep popping bubbles for longer ahaha. Thanks for sharing your game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing!! Im sorry about the issues, we had uploaded another build a couple of days ago, hoping that it would fix the problems... May I ask what resolution/ monitor you are playing on? Nevertheless, Im glad you enjoyed the game!

Submitted

My screen resolution is 1600x900 for your reference!

Developer

Thank you for the info! I built the game for Full HD without scaling options so thats probably the issue here... I will make a fixed build after the game jam ends, after reading up more on it I understand how to do it!

Lovely artstyle and very original fishing mechanic. I like it!
