Nice little game. Had trouble with the last jump. It could be too difficult for someone who it not so experienced with jump and run games xD

Developer (1 edit)

Ya that last jump wasn't too difficult for me but after play testing with friends I realized I should of added a respawn point to the last jump or make it easier.

Thanks for playing!

The 3D environment looks really good and also controls nicely. I think there is an issue, where the text does not fit the screen and has a scroll bar on the right that you can't really interact with so you can't see the full text and instead of "I should go straight to bed" it just says "I should go straight". The 2D section could of course be better, but for a last minute thing it is still pretty good.

Awesome work!

Never encountered that bug during play testing thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for checking it out!

You're right to be proud of the 3D section, it was really nice to navigate and look around at all the decoration! I especially liked the console sitting by the screen. I kept expecting something scary to happen, I was lowkey glad it didn't lol.

For the 2D section, I expected Space to be the jump button rather than the Up key but that's a minor nitpick. I really appreciate that when you fall off you respawn on the nearest ledge rather than needing to redo the whole section, especially because I kept dying right at the same spot (I think it was on me rather than it being too difficult, I just had a brain fart). Felt the absence of an exit button on the victory screen rather than needing to manually close the game. Overall it was a great job for a solo dev!

For the 2D section it was more a last minute thing addition as I couldn't finished what I planned and wanted to give the player at least an end screen to know they finished. (The sprite animation/placement was rough around the edges)

After some play testing I found I should of put a respawn point at the last jump as everyone IRL I gave the game to felt a little frustrated at that part (maybe thats a good thing, like overcoming a challenge, idk, hard to say)

Personally I found that if I kept it WASD in the 2D section I wouldn't have to tell the player to press a new button they never pressed before in the 3D section which is why I kept jump as W

Thanks for trying it out! and thanks for the 3D section praise!

This game kept me on the edge all the time! I was looking for a jump scare... the overall atmosphere kept me going and thankfully jump scare didnt happen!

I am glad that the horror vibe in the 3D came through, I was worried it wouldn't feel that way. Hopefully I can flush it out on a later date and add some jump scares ;)

Thanks for Playing!

Great work on the apartment! The shading, the filter, and the lighting look great and I would totally play a spooky game in that setting. The dream gameplay was cute too. When you get more time, you could definitely extend this into a horror game and keep the dream as a palette cleanser.

Thanks for uploading a linux build! I was able to download it from the itch app, but it looks like the linux build is missing the pck file? I was able to grab it from the windows download and bring it over though.

Trying to make 3D look nice took a lot more work and time than initially planned, as I have never done it before. Thanks for the praise!

I will take the suggestion on how to structure the horror vs dream I will keep it in mind if I ever try to expand this prototype.

Really thank you for bringing the build issue to my attention, I didn't have much time to test both build before the upload deadline so I just tested on both OS's with all the Windows and Linux files mixed together, whoops.

Thanks for trying it out!

I was expecting a monster to come out of the toilet so I checked jusssst in case :) and then I thought there was gonna be a demon come out of the dresser in the bedroom. Glad neither of those happened and I instead got to play a cute lil' guy <3 game was easy to understand and the sound effects were just right, good job!

Developer

I had plans to do a horror element in the 3D world and have creatures sneak around but after looking at the amount of time left in the Jam and having very little free time, I wanted to create a end which is why it goes to 2D pixel art.

Thanks for checking it out!
