I like the concept, it seems to be pretty captivating, judging by tutorial! Sadly, I couldn't get past the Upgrade button. It could be because of performance issues, as game lagged pretty hard. But other than that, I liked the game, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Unfortunately the build has really bad loading performance that seems to get worse the more upgrades you have at some point with bad hardware it can’t even load upgrades 1 :(

This game is so cool! Incremental gameplay like this has been one of my favorite genres over the past few months, so I honestly didn’t expect to find something this enjoyable in a solo game jam. Thanks for making it!

If I had one suggestion, I’d personally love it even more if progressing to the next ore tier felt more gradual—instead of all ores upgrading at once, having only part of them evolve first would create a stronger sense of progression.

The core concept absolutely deserves to become a full game. Looking forward to it!

Developer

Thank you! Making a full release is something I’m strongly considering.

"Mini Miner is a satisfying, minimalist, incremental game about drilling."

Well I have to say...

Haha you sucked me in so quickly. Upgrades felt meaningful and the sound effects were superb. Good finds! As others have said, performance isn't great. Probably some shader stuff if I had to guess, which looks real neat! Makes the very clean vector art stand out even more, though the fact the shaded area on the ores represented the health wasn't clear to me at first, so it lead to the tutorial and first few minutes feeling a little awkward. Seriously though, once you get an incremental like this going you've got it going, and you know that. :)

Super impressive stuff. Good work and keep jamming!

Thanks so much!

Forget drilling rocks. I'm drilling my GPU. Jokes aside. It an a very addictive incremental game. I just wish the blast radius of the TNT is bigger when I first bought it but man is it satisfying when them gold rocks line up for me to drill into. Very polished, veyr satisfying, worthy game!

*The moment I boot up the game*

Developer

:O Uh so umm. I thought my game was pretty well optimized but With all the comments I will not be so naive again.

ran pretty heavy on arc so had to switch to chrome, but totally worth it. chef's kiss. great game

Developer

Thank you for switching browsers for playing games. I ALWAYS use zen so I’m a firefox guy but it just can’t run games as good as it should be able to. It’s just not playable in my experience ever. So I use a really lightweight chorme for for playing games (Helium)

Love this game.  The progression is very addicting. If I had to nickpick some of the upgrades feel like setbacks at first, like shrinking the ores, and speed of the drill. Technically though these fit the theme, but gameplay wise it's not very rewarding. Another nitpick is the coils at first aren't very good compared to the TNT. That is fine but I think the beginning tesla coil unlocks are too expensive for how much they suck compared to one TNT. But really great game. I got sucked in and finished it in a half hour.

PS I appreciate the details like moving the camera around a bit with drill movement, that kind of polish is why having a small scope like this for gamejams is so important.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing the whole game! All of your de back is actually S Tier level stuff! I’ve seen people can afford ore level three (makes ore red from purple) but then they want to buy other stuff fisrt so thry just replay 3 times with no extra upgrades because they want to be more powerful.

It’s pretty funny. I designed my game so the player’s relative power (how much dps compared to ore health) goes up and down throughout the game so that the high moments hit really high. But in effect people don’t enjoy it that much so either my execution is poor or the idea is bad to begin with. I think my execuis just poor.

I agree the balance for the tesla coils when you first get them sucks! When I make a full game version I’m really gonna accelerate the mid to late game which I didn’t have a lot of time to polish. By they way I’m really impressed with your feedback and you seem cool to chat with. Do wanna chat with me on discord?

This is a good, calming game, similar to A Game About Digging a Hole, but:

  • You might want to work on the game's visuals. At the very least, you should add some visible differences when the player reaches new upgrade levels. It's good that Giga and Mega increase the size of the drill, and that's visually noticeable, but the upgrade process itself isn't always visible
  • On the last level, after buying all upgrades, there were some small FPS drops, both in the browser version and on PC. This is especially noticeable when Tesla Coins are active
  • Also consider a version with progression downward (if you plan to develop this idea further and add some kind of ultimate goal). I recommend adding layers of earth that visually take you deeper and deeper. Finding various items along the way down would also be welcome
Developer

Dang, S tier feedback here.

I love how polished the game is, and the audio and graphics are great, but I had a few issues.

I got bored pretty quickly (because of the lack of stakes, but that's probably because I'm not a big incremental game fan), I feel like the theme was only implemented in the tutorial and there was also so much lag. Optimizing isn't easy during a jam, but I think it's important to think about how well the web build of the finished game would run when choosing the idea, especially since I think without the lag the game would feel even more polished.

But even with these issues, out of the games I've played so far in this jam, this is probably one of the best.

Firefox browser I assume?

Submitted

Yes?

Developer

There’s your problem. I daily drive zen, a Firefox based browser but I recommend using a Chromium based browser for playing games. For my game it goes from laggy to forgetting that I was playing in a browser. It is well optimized for browsers, firfox just has bad game performance. I recommend helium because it’s fast, lightweight, degoogled anf of course chromium based. So I switch to that for games.

Loved this game, could see myself playing for hours if this game expands.

Developer

Thanks! (Scribbles on notepad)

Wouldn't let me post a comment earlier. But I really enjoyed your game. The sound and effects were super satisfying. Once I got the tesla fully upgraded I was getting maximum dopamine. Good job!

Ultra satisfying game; from the simple but beautiful graphics, to the color palette, the upgrades, the balance, everything is astonishingly amazing.

The only thing, if I have to say any, is that the theme of the jam could've been "implemented" further by adding some kind of cost or tax to entering the mining area, or adding some kind of "fuel" instead of a time limit, which would've added a bit more strategy.

Nevertheless, I loved it! Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing my game, I’m glad you enjoyed it and played it all the way!

I played for 35 Minutes straight. Well thought out upgrades and seemed like and upgrade was always around the corner. Huge fan!
