For a first time in an engine and with limited time, this game played really well! Nice job!
Good job on trying a new engine for this jam! It can be daunting to familiarize yourself with something new especially under a tight deadline, but it's great that you were able to create something with it in time.
As for the game itself, I think you were able to nail down the premise of the game well. I think what the game needs from here is just an expansion of the mechanics and additional polish to make this game more engaging. Maybe add more enemy types, more hazards to face, and some audio & visual effects when shooting at enemies to make things more satisfying.
But overall, good job!
Thank you! Yea I was thinking if I wanted to spend time thinking about shot patterns and enemy variations, but with the time constraint I had, I needed to scope it to what I could do with the time I had
Congrats on learning a new engine! The idea for the game is good, and the game works perfectly! One thing is that, at least for me, the bullets kept going to the mouse's previous position a few seconds ago, so it was kind of hard to hit enemies.
Nice job! I read your description, learning a new engine and limited time for a game jam and still getting something submitted is impressive.
Could be a fun game with the mix moving fast and still trying to hit your enemies without missing. The game froze for me as well, and I think it might be from enemy bullets hitting other enemies? That's what it looked like to me.
Congratz on learning a new engine!
Ohh, that's am interesting bug, I'll go look it through since there's no reason bullet enemies would collide with enemies. Everything runs as a sensor / trigger and the collision matrix I've set does not allow for Bullet / Bullet-Enemy groups.
Regardless, Thanks for playing and reviewing it! I'll check it out and update the game if I find out why it happens xD
I actually disagree with YouBestBelieve, I thought the game was too easy on some parts but balancing is definitely a hard task in a game jam. I do applaud your effort in trying to learn a new game engine and it being Cocos! This game does need a lot more work to be done to be awesome but great work regardless!
Similar concept to my submission! Not sure if it's the movement or the checkerboard pattern, but the background is a little hard on the eyes. Would also have been nice if shooting was optional to make it feel more like a cost being payed as opposed to a timer. Lastly, the game froze and stopped working when I reached 240 score.
I respect giving a new engine a try. I can't imagine it was very easy!
Oh, that's interesting. Someone else also had the game hang after a while. As mentioned in that comment, I'll go look through the code and give the game a proper testing itself. Will update the build id and when I find what's causing the crashing!
Also the background definitely could've been better, I agree. Initially I'd have the camera drag behind the player, but that makes the shooting feel weird so I increased the cam speed to make it snapping to the player instead.
Thank you again for playing and the feedback!
That was difficult but otherwise I had fun
