There is nothing about this I understand. And yet, I like it! Pretty captivating, until I lost, lol! Well done!

Oh you're right! A chihuahua would've been perfect for this. If I would continue making this, I'd definitely add one :D
As for the soundtrack, yes, that probably would've been a good call... I actually wanted to get a different music for the shop, but I didn't end up finding anything I liked enough, and the ones I liked felt a bit too disruptive considering you'd be clicking between the shop and the main scene a lot
Really like the art ! I dont know if renpy is the most suited engine for this kind of game but good job !
I don't see why not? It was really easy for me to make. I keep seeing people say that I shouldn't have used renpy for this, but I was a part of making a similar game using unity last december, and honestly I think both of them work equally well, only difference is that I wouldn't have been able to make the unity game alone in such a short time :/
Edit: to be clear I'm genuinely curious why people are saying this to me. It doesn't come across as valid criticism for my game and I'm just a beginner. It's confusing :( it's not that I'm intending to only ever use renpy, but I wanted to get to know it thoroughly before moving on to learning different engines. I can't really learn to use everything it has to offer if I don't, well, do all the things it can do, even if some other engine would do it better
It's not criticism about the game in itself, it's more bout scalability of it and the effort it demands to develop features since renpy is a specialized engine for visual novel.
It's not something I took into account when rating your project, if you are more comfortable with renpy and you learnt about this engine it's perfectly understandable and I will even tell you to keep exploring this engine !
There were 3 total screens I had to make for this, each took me about 50 lines of code, and the game code itself is basically just show screen hide screen return. I think I would like to implement these mechanics into a bigger visual novel some day, and that is why I'm trying to learn as much about renpy as I can. I want to make a visual novel with various minigames in it. Gamejams are the perfect place for me to experiment :)
After this, I am planning to learn other engines regardless, but I do think I will keep returning to renpy since I don't exactly think I need all the extra stuff some of the other engines offer, and so they can actually slow down my visual novel projects instead of being helpful :/
Thanks for being so encouraging! I've encountered some negativity about my use of renpy since starting this hobby
Nice game! Def would use a more subtle audio for clicks. Also, what is the point of many rats? Were they originally going to be gone for an extended period of time, so I'd need to click everyone as they came back? Good work!
Aw, it seems the audio has been really hit or miss for a lot of people.
And well, since you're asking, my original plan was for there to be timed "job assignments" and you'd need to click on a rat based on its stats and suitability for the job. But considering this is my first time making a game like this, and I joined the jam late (evening before deadline), I knew I had to make a lot of cuts from what I had originally wanted to make. I'm very new to this and still learning :)
Nice submission ^^
The artwork is real neat! I'm not a big fan of clickers, but got enjoying this for a little while. I switched the sound off though, as it gets too repetitive. Also one thing I noticed: you can go into a negative money balance without losing (at least with one purchase).
My project this year has been to see all the kinds of things I can make using renpy creatively. I know it's not ideal, but I think it turned out pretty good? Renpy is a really cool engine and it can do a lot of things, plus it's very simple and easy to use even for people who are new to game development. I haven't had anything happen while rolling the mouse wheel, I will definitely look into what that's about and ask others about it too. Thanks for letting me know and trying the game! :)
Really cool clicker game! Balancing cheese and money made it a bit more interesting, trying not to go bankrupt in either, but since there weren't any auto-clickers from what I could tell, or upgrades, it got a bit repetitive. I really liked the art, especially the final... rat? you recruit at the end.
Finally a game I can start my rat business :) I love the art, great job!
Super fun, and I like the idea. The gameplay was a bit simple and could probably be expanded, but it was fun recruiting the different rats and juggling different things in the store. It would be cool if maybe the items in the store rotated, as once you figured out how to not run out of cheese, it was pretty straight forward.
Overall cool game, really liked the idea. Go rats! Also, check out my game if you're a rat fan, you might like it :D
I really wanted to make more items for the shop, but I joined this jam late and I definitely also overestimated how fast I would be able to make this, now those abandoned shop item drafts will be stuck in my "work in progress" folder forever hahah
I saw your game earlier and I decided I'd definitely play it today, really happy to see another rat game in this jam! :D
I like all the little rat* designs! They've got a lot of character haha
The clicker gameplay is pretty nice with the sounds being different for each of them, though it was hard to tell how good each of the rats are without looking at the change in numbers directly. Partially because of that, stats just being flavor text confused me at first. It was kinda hard to tell what the "jobs" were that they were going on, but the idea is fun so I can just imagine it.
Congrats on finishing a game!
Yeah unfortunately I didn't have time to make the stats actually meaningful, so they ended up being more of a flavor text, I figured at least they're kinda funny. I left them there because I really didn't have any time to change them, I joined the jam the evening before the deadline, and I was spending most of my time learning how to make a clicker game to begin with :(
The jobs too, I had an idea for clicking on a rat for a specific type of job (the stats would've been important here) etc. But it's no surprise that I didn't have the time and skill for everything. I did my best, and I feel like I've learned a lot from making this :)
I really like the art of the different rats, It really adds personality to them and the game as a whole. I also think it's a cute idea that rats work for cheese, as a funny twist on theme!
while I found the concept easy to understand, I wasn't really sure what the stats do, I understand you meant as flavour text from what you've commented. So I'd suggest instead of stats, writing a short sentence about the rat's personality instead, so that it isn't to be confused with in game systems.
Good effort! : )
That is otherwise a great suggestion, but I really originally intended for the stats to actually have a function in the game. Originally I wanted to put items into the shop that would boost the stats etc. So this was more of a time problem, not exactly an active design decision :(
I've only ever contributed to one game which made use of any kind of stats, so it turned out I wasn't skilled enough to come up with a functioning stats system so fast on my own hahah... though the stats do have small effect on the numbers of money the rats produce, bigger numbers in stats = chance for more money
Thanks for playing and thanks for feedback, it really helps :)
Nice game! I like the concept of introducing strategy to incremental games and I think the art was super cool too. I did not understand the stats and rats and stuff though lol. I swear I read it I just immediately forgot what the tutorial stuff said.
Nice Job! The art came through as the shining star of the project!
Positive Feedback: Art was good, clicks were crisp, I can feel the care you took. Thanks for making some cool art! I liked the names and the rats. Also cool game engine I hadn't heard of renpy
Resistance I encountered: At the end my game ended quickly after recruiting a few mice and clicking on them it dumped me back to the main screen because I clicked too fast past whatever had popped up. Not sure what happened. I also don't understand the "stats" of the rats and what gives money vs cheese and what the loss condition is. Like they didn't seem to go out and do any of my bidding? Maybe I'm not as familiar with clickers.
The game ends if you run out of money or cheese. The stats on the rats aren't all that important really, but you can get an idea on how each of them "perform" if you follow the numbers of money they make each click :)
Thankyou so much for the feedback! Next time I will definitely take into account these things!
