I like the vibes of this game a lot. The static that constantly plays all throughout adds so much to this feeling of being lost in this Windows screensaver maze, and I like the use of the old internet dial-up tone as a way to hint at the exit getting closer. The mazes themselves are also done quite well, giving lots of power-up discs to players while also not giving away too much information on where you are.
I think it might be better though if the game gave more of an idea on where I am in terms of progress, either through text or by changing the wallpaper of the maze every once in a while. It can help give a sense of progression, and could also reduce the feeling of monotony which the mazes can sometimes make me feel. But in general, I still enjoyed this game quite a lot and I hope Klippy can finally escape and make a return to Windows.
Pretty good game! I like the theme of it being old school windows maze. This gives like the early 2000's vibes which is awesome! Pretty simple gameplay which is good but maybe adding a bit more depth as the level goes on would prevent it from being repetitive. Other than that, great job!
Is this game endless? I've completed 8 mazes with no ending in sight! Very interesting game, especially if mazes are procedurally generated, good job!
It is indeed endless and procedurally generated with few rules to spawn RAM refills in dead ends and an exit not close to the start !
I really liked how the movement actually felt like you're Klippy. Fun gameplay, easy and smooth to control, and the whole thing feels very polished
Good game with good humor. The movement feels satisfying
Cool game, really enjoyed it! I love that the memory is the cost, and that you can recover some by collecting RAM. The movements felt food, and I really felt like I was bouncing around the mazes as clippy. I think one thing you could do is make the RAM have either a faint light or faint sound, or both, so that you could more easily find RAM when low on memory. My best score is maze 7, before I couldn't find any more RAM and ran out of memory. Maybe making the exit dial-up sound range also scale with the maze would also be a good idea, as I was just aimlessly wandering around the maze after the first few mazes. I thought this was a very creative interpretation of the theme, and really like these types of games, good job!
Good point, I was uncertain about scaling the exit sound range up as the noise it make made my brain fry after hearing it so much :D
Thats's why i made the note feature to be able to leave a "breadcrumb trail", but I'm not sure it was obvious or useful to use.
I really like the aesthetic of this, really makes me feel like I'm playing inside that old screensaver haha, it resembles it quite well, the dark light makes it feel quite creepy a liminal space horror type vibe. I like the idea of draining memory as a cost, that's quite funny. the ui is very good as well and i love the way it emulates retro computers!
The controls are good, however i feel the mazes are hard to navigate with the environment being so similar to each other and also likely due to the random generation, but understandable given the time limit. maybe different areas of the maze could reference other old screen savers?
also I'm not sure if there was supposed to be audio, given the inclusion of a volume slider, but none seems to be playing for me or it's muted.
Overall Good effort! : )
There was no music, but a fait humming sound similar to what computer fans do and the exit made a dial up sound that you could use to spatially locate the exit once you got close enough.
For the repetitiveness, i can only agree, I really wanted to add some details to help the navigation but couldn't squeeze it in the time frame of the jam :(
Was playing your game and ran into Error Code: G1T GUD? In all seriousness though I thought your game was fun and an interesting take on the theme. I also like the fact that I could use the dial up sound to kind of guide me through the maze as I got closer.
I really enjoyed the creative game concept and theme interpretation of the game, the loading scene is a banger nostalgia. Good job!
This was fun! I enjoyed the atmosphere and the loneliness.
I love how you feel like you are bouncing around as a paperclip. Controls felt really good
Poor Klippy! A lot of fun though. I love these dungeon crawler type setups.
So this is what happened to poor Klippy. :(
cool game! i died on the third level and i could SEE THE END... it was sad... it was still a good game though.
quick question: did you make each level or is it randomly generated?
It is randomly generated, each level passed make the maze bigger by 5 in X and Y (5x5, 10x10, 15x15, ....)
