Pretty fun space game. I did like it, though there’s a lot that could be improved.

I was able to beat the boss and warp out on my second try, but that was by cheesing the Dart’s homing Laser Fusillade.

The movement felt ok. I think it needs more feedback on what direction the ship is moving than just the red and blue dots. Like space dust or something like that. And more momentum so that it’s easier to circle enemies.

I didn’t discover turret mode until after I beat the game, but it doesn’t really help much since there’s no way to turn the ship while looking sideways. I suggest either changing WASD in turret mode to pitch and yaw, or make toggling off turret mode keep/lock the camera rotation so that the ship can fly while looking sideways.

The shooting works, but it wasn’t really satisfying. There’s a lack of feedback on whether your bullets are hitting or not with sound or particles except when they die. And targeting anything farther than close range is annoying due to the slow bullet speed and lack of targeting helpers like predicted target position or aim assist.

Ship rotation worked well and didn’t feel disorienting.

First bootup of the game took a bit of time and there was no loading screen so the game locked up for 30 seconds. It’d probably help to add multi-threading so that there’s at least some indication that the game is loading.

The boss is pretty cool. I like the arm attacks and the big laser. Though it’s hard to tell when I am receiving damage, since the audio cue is so muffled and quiet, and there’s no visual indicator (like a red vignette) other than the health bar off in the corner dropping. I wasn’t really able to tell if I was dodging the laser or if I was just taking very little damage from it when flying in a circle to dodge.

When using turret mode, the ship obscured my vision when trying to shoot at targets above me.

Boxes worked alright for getting upgrades, though the interaction distance seems a bit small. Since I couldn’t interact when flying by at full speed.

For ship abilities, the Dart warp felt good to use, though it was a little hard to judge the distance since its range is so long. The Laser Fusillade felt good to use after I figured out it was homing. Before that I was confused on why it was sometimes going backwards when the boss was in front of me. (The drones were around or behind me).

The Tank ramming speed kinda works as an escape tool, but because it locks turning, it doesn’t work as a ramming attack well if it’s supposed to do that. The laser is cool, but aiming it is really inconsistent against drones because the ship rotation smoothing doesn’t center on the camera quickly after turning.

Overall I liked the game and I see the potential, but it could use a lot of work to make it feel fun to play longer!

This is the most detailed feedback we have received so far and we are grateful for it!
In fact we spent quite a lot of time this morning, discussing and fixing things based on your review.
Do look forward to our post jam patch! And thank you for leaving such an insightful comment!

Control is great, good low poly. But my low end laptop fan was spinning so fast and my cpu start to melt i have to stop mid way. Good game thought that have lootbox like Risk of Rain but in space. Remind me of Freelancer and Star Valor.

Developer

Thank you for trying our game out! Sorry for the performance issues you faced. We will definitely try to optimize it post jam. Did you play the .exe or the browser version?

Wow such an impressive game for a jam! :O
Things I loved:
- Flying feels great, the controls are toight and turret/pilot modes are exactly what you want
- Low poly aesthetic, design of the boss especially!
- Item name + effect combo eliciting hearty chuckle everytime lol
- Having different 2 different ship builds on top of everything else!
Things I'd love to see:
- A little bit more tutorialisation / explanation in-game
- e.g. Didn't realise the turrets were spawning in-world when I was purchasing (rather than just applying) and then the crates worked the opposite way which wasn't obvious the first few runs
- e.g. Wasn't sure what the blue reticle and red reticles that appeared were indicating
- e.g. Would love to see a list of all the stats somewhere to get an ideaof what the upgrades were doing relative to the baseline
All in all really impressive stuff team, well done :D

Thank you for this! It's very detailed feedback, exactly the kind of thing we need right now. We will definitely be fixing improving these systems post jam! Do look forward to it!

Incredibly ambitious and very fun, nice work! I like that you made a downloadable version available as well b/c the browser isn't so good at handling 3D games (especially not one this intricate)

Developer(+1)

Thank you dude! Feel we bit off a bit more than we could chew for the jam, but we'll definitely be seeing this one through beyond. Hope to see you there :)

Damn! Very impressive stuff for a Jam, I'm impressed. I love space stuff. Browser does'nt play so well but, not your fault. I had fun, almost beat the boss until I choked hehe. Congratulations!

Developer

You can do it! The boss has nothing on you!

Good stuff, browser version is a bit slow but there's not much that can be done about that for Godot.  Dart feels better than tank, just because you're a tad bit faster and you can dodge the deranged mining boss's attacks a bit easier.  Wasn't expecting the difficulty to spike up to 10 with that first boss so quickly but it's an interesting challenge. Always good to see 3D games in the godot jam

Developer

So glad you enjoyed it! Dart is a bit overtuned but we plan to show some love to tank soon after the jam. Do look forward to more updates post-jam. :)

Wow this was really cool. Like just honestly very very impressive and not something I expected to play. I really enjoyed it. Somehow felt pretty hard, but like a really good challenge. It reminded me of the space mission on halo reach if you ever played it and it played pretty much like that. Very, very, very cool.

Developer

Thank you for trying it out! We tried to balance the difficulty as much as possible, ensuring it was not too easy, so there's atleast 20-30 + mins of content for the players. 😄 We are gald you enjoyed it!

Developer

So glad you liked it! It means a lot to hear that. We'll be developing this further, so watch out for updates :)

awesome, I’m glad you guys will be working on it more. I feel like that’s the best feeling when you want to keep going on a project. And truthfully it was very impressive. So good job guys

Wow this was fun to play. I could see this being a hit as a fully developed out game. Honestly if you guys continue this game i need to know.

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, we do indeed intend to build this out to a full release. Watch this space!

I love the color and how many upgrades you have floating around. The game unfortunately got too slow to play at around 10m in (on the Windows EXE) but I still had a great time play and got to see the boss. Great work!

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Thanks for the feedback; I'll do some performence testing post jam and see if i can find the issue.

Submitted(+1)

If it helps, I didn't notice any slowdown until close to the 9m mark and it started before triggering the boss. Even still, very fun game!

Extremely smooth controls and an addictive gameplay loop. Excellent use of of color and audio which gave your world a very strong atmosphere!

Thanks for the exe version.
