Pretty cool idea, I think that the hard mode should be touched apon, because I charged up my limit all round and it only killed one person.

Cool idea! Fun to be the boss and have all the abilities!

I tried hard mode but couldn’t make any progress! Even after getting my limit break and burninating, only 1 died who was promptly ressed.

Solid entry!
The theme is fitting,  the boss fight is there and the gameplay is fine, the idea of an inverse rpg sounds very interesting. My only critique is the use of AI art, also the sfx and music were a bit too simple.

Other than that i would like to see this inverse rpg idea expanded upon!
Keep working on it! 👍

Thank you for playing!

Assets are the weak point of my game making friends, unfortunately...

Its always nice to see someone make an RPG with an original idea. Good job team, keep it up!

Being the dragon boss fits the theme well

I like the turn-based mechanic.

I couldn't see the party's hp though which kind of made me wonder WHEN do I defeat them, especially in hard mode.

Good entry!

Thank you for playing!

Heroes on hard mode have 999 HP, their maximum. Old school games weren't fond of showing you enemy HP lol

Hey,

It's a nice Idea and fits very well on jam theme.

I liked the bit style sfx and the funny quotes from the boss.

My feedback here: It would be better if you guys had more consistency on art, doesn't seems that background, boss, player and effects matches.

Congrats on your submission

Thank you for playing!

In a way, artstyle is on par with old Final Fantasy games, with the boss being more detailed than the heroes :)

Alas, our artists have abandoned us on this jam and we had to manage with what we had...

Super original idea, and I think you really managed to make it feel like a real RPG boss fight. The players end up becoming a real challenge. And the art is wonderful. Incredible work!

Thank you for playing!

Making it feel like a JRPG boss fight of the golden era was the intetion. Glad to see we went that way.

Really love the visuals and the audio, but there is some inconsistency with the art, like how the effects of the attacks are much more pixelated than the other art, and how some characters are animated but the others are just static sprites. It's also really hard to see which character is attacking the boss, this can easily be fixed by just ofsetting the attacking character forward. But apart from these minor annoyances Its a really good game. Also the game lacked immersion slightly, I think the bg music is the reason, in a boss fight I would expect tense, or creepy. But I was really suprised by the number of attacks there is, really nice job on the coding side.

Thank you for playing!

I didn't have the time to upgrade the effects, so they are NES level... the rest is SNES level (or close to). Same for the animations, some frames went missing and drawing isn't my forte.

The heroes do step forward (left) a bit when it is their turn, but you don't see the movement, just that they aren't in their original position. We could have gone with a better way to show turn, noted.

On immersion, there are TWO battle music. I guess you only heard the first one. The second hits harder. You can find it somewhere in hard mode :)

The boss style is hilarious and the battle feeling is really a stroll down memory lane.

My only point is that sometimes in some of the puzzles you cannot attack or cast magic on some characters but you don't know why: nor you nor the heroes have icons so I should be able to attack them but it just go back to the action choice. Apart from this odd behaviour, the game is really fun. Will try hard mode ASAP.

Thank you for playing! We can't take credit on Trogdor... all credits to the creators :)

And yes, that is a roadblock for you: SILENCE (which does not allow MAGICKS or EVIL SPEECH) and SAP on ATTACK (which does not allow you to use ATTACK), thus rendering you without attack options. But doesn't it sound like something a player would do to a final boss? Or any enemy for that matter lol

Debuffs in general have a 25% chance per turn to be removed, or are removed after 3 turns passed.
The sap only returns when the Thief gets hit.

Hope you don't die to a Limit in hard mode :)

actually very fun.  seeing the little party try to defend against the absurd powers makes you feel like "nothing can stop me" and then they start resurrecting one another, and suddenly you have to plot a little bit. I haven't tried hard mode but I imagine it gets desperate.

Developer

Thank you for playing! And yes, hard mode hits HARD... but we added some extra fun stuff there :)
