Not a bad submission.

I think the gameplay balance needs a bit of looking at to improve on what's here though.  The name is Power Shot, and while there is indeed a Power Shot ability, finding the time to use it is a bit difficult.  I think there needs to be a bit of balancing between the speed of the enemies and how often they shoot at you to give more opportunities to use the Power Shot ability, or as an alternative, a power up that turns every shot into a Power Shot for a limited time.

Not bad at all. As others have stated, it could definitely use some more feedback for different actions, for example having the enemies flash white for a second when they get hit would help, but stuff like that comes with practice, and if this is where you're starting, I think you'll get there soon enough. Well done

I went back a second time to retry, so there is something there. I like the art, simple and clean. The button mashing shoot put me off a little at first, but I realized later on that this is needed to that you can work in the powershot mechanic and it forces me to plan my shooting strategy, so well done. Pretty good for you first godot outing on a ten day deadline. I would have liked the firing and destruction of enemies to have some more feel to it and maybe have the powershot "charging up" to have some kind of feedback, like a building hum or meter filling up. Still, solid start.

if this is your first game made with godot I’m curious about the games you’ll make next, the game is sufficiently successful, the game feel is lacking, maybe more reactive actions could be created with particle effects, and I think the music choice is a bit harsh :D it’s a slower paced game compared to the music playing, in this jam 7 out of every 10 games I played were made with godot, maybe I should consider switching engines as well, thanks for the submission

Very fun game, nice simple mechanics, and I love the music.

Awesome job on completing your first game! It was simple but fun. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on completing your game! I like the art and the simple pick up and play controls. Also I like that it is playable with keyboard or controller. I think a few more enemy variants or pickups would add some nice variety. Nice job!

Very good first gamejam submission. A few suggestions: add parallax in the background. It’ll make it more beautiful. Add different types of enemies. Good luck!

Congrats on submitting your first game jam! Definitely a cool game! Its fairly simple which I do wish there were more to it. I like the direction you're heading though and this definitely could be a base game for a cooler game in the future! Another thing to add potentially is some more juice when you are shooting at the enemies or when the enemies died to make sure the attacks are more satisfying! Other than that, great work!

I like that you can charge up your lazer, but I wish I knew when it was fully charged with a sound or an effect so I didn't have to guess the timing of it. The game has a clear goal of get the high score and don't touch enemies or lose all your health but the gameplay was very stale without powerups or enemy variety. The game has a solid menu system that lets you pause, exit, see the credits, controls, and change options.

welcome to godot-club! nicely done. i’d suggest to use the path feature so the enemies fly in curves.

I admire the effort put into presentation. It looks and plays clean. The choice of music to drive the game is effective.

Cool game! I think it might be better if the shots disappeared after colliding with the ships. I was able to wipe out two ships in one shot (which may or may not be intended). Also, maybe it would be interesting to have a consequence for letting ships pass through

I thought it was neat. I do agree with CreepyHero that the laser sfx may have been a poor choice. Also I'm not sure on this, but I think the SFX volume setting doesn't save when you start up the game. (I think it might be re-instantiated to its original volume value when the game starts)

Developer

Thanks for catching the volume issue. I forgot to switch the channel assignment for the laser effects. As part of the bug fix I also dropped the pitch as a band-aid solution, as well as dropping the initial volume for both channels.

I love the aesthetics. Awesome job for a solo developer.

Fun game, the laser sounds got a bit annoying after a while though.  If you keep going with this one add some power ups!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I dropped the pitch to help for now. The power ups were what originally sent me down this path as they would 'connect' to the ship, but I was having too much fun learning the in's and out's of Godot.
