I liked the game. I dont know why it ended a little abruptly for me after 5th level. Maybe some bug. Enjoyed the story and loved the detail.

Developer

The game will end if you hit skip too many times in a row. It's a feature not a bug.

Submitted

This had a really cool vibe to it. I liked the intro announcement it was clever and ominous. I wish there was a way to skip it for replays though. I didn't really get what I was supposed to be doing the first time and having to relisten to the announcement I'd just heard was a little frustrating.

Developer(+1)

I coded in the "skip" function but didn't get it wired up in time. I plan on adding that feature after the jam

Favourite game I've played so far in the jam, I loved the "you ran out of time screen/animation" and the voice acting was great!

I loved this game. funny story, great voice acting. and nice art too. few nitpicks, the choices are too obvious and theme is same. friendly response/threat/beurocratic response. the switches could be less easy by flipping in the right order. overall great game!

Developer

Yeah. I played around with different difficulty settings BUT ultimately wanted people to just have fun with the story in this one.

Good fun on making connections the theme through a radio.

The story and dialogue was great but the game play part let it down a bit. Great effort though.

Submitted(+1)

It was a really little fun game, I enjoyed more than I thought. The gameplay is not very challenging, but the story and the voice acting keep the whole thing funny and enjoyable. Nice development on the theme. Good job!

Top notch submission.  Solid Game.

This one is a five stars for me, loved how the theme is developed in gameplay and narrative, it reminds me of a game called Still There in a less serious twist.

Cheese and the saving of earth is serious business Karl

This was so amazing!! Was so entertaining listening to all the dialogue. Played through the whole thing and had a blast. Great work :)

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it!

Great idea and the game itself, love the voice-overs!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it.

The sound is, of course, superb. Funny writing. Nice visual design. The wheel in step 3 is too hard to control to my taste. The written text being out of sync with the voice is a bit annoying. I too expected a little more “gaming” in this game. Overall, a quite satisfying experience — although I didn’t get to the end (got stuck on the wheel too much). Cheese!

Developer (1 edit)

The wheel has a couple different control modes. You can of course drag the tuning wheel at the bottom left or right to rapidly move it OR you can click left and right of the center of the grey tuning wheel to move it slowly.

I decided to focus on audio, story, and animations this go around vs complex game play/ puzzles. Thanks for playing!

As far as the typing and the audio not syncing up. That was a battle/ design choice. I didn't want to give too much away by having dialogue start popping up until you held the frequency for a couple seconds. Then I tried my best to tune in a function that allowed the typing and audio to catch up to each other. I battled that up until I hit submit.

If I had more time I probably could have gone through and synced everything up via timecode BUT I just kind of had to settle for a words per minute formula x the length of the audio.

I like the simple ms paint style interface, and voice overs, looks like a fun game, just a bit lacking when it comes to gameplay itself.

Developer

Yeah, I focused on the animations, story, and audio in this one over complex gameplay. The game play is mainly speed to solve a puzzle while not getting too distracted by the stories. haha

The voiceovers made this. Nice idea and cool little game. Good job.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it. Trevor is a gem of a human and very talented.

Very good and entertaining voice acting. I liked that you put the "side stories" into the menu to hear later. The hitchikers guide references were noted ;p Cool that there are multiple endings. Nice game!

Developer (1 edit)

Glad you played AND listened to the stories. Trevor enjoyed creating the voices for them. I actually changed gameplay up a bit half way through development to make listening a bit more enticing.

Always intrigued by get-in-contact-with-aliens types of stories. Nice idea to combine the analogue radio setup with branch-style dialogue, well executed too. And incredibly cool voice acting in this one!

Developer

Glad you liked it! My buddy had a blast making up the voices for it.

The idea of using radios and interplanetary communication for the theme is so clever!! The alien's obsession over what we would consider trivial is very funny. It could be been cool if instead of saying things like 18 months it was 1 and a half solar cycles and instead of parking it was landing or docking to emphasis how foreign they are outside of the alien's unique obsession with cheese. Super quirky game it was great fun! :)

Developer

Those are great little re-write ideas.

Working with a voice actor and figuring out the formulas to "sync" the audio was a fun little challenge in this. Lot's of little quirks when it came to getting things to print etc. I would have loved to have more than a couple of days to rework the script and add those things like "docking" etc. That really does flesh out CJ's character.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Colby Jack is a real charmer. no, but seriously, the amount of personality the voice actor breathed into that alien was wonderful. And the whole aesthetics of the game, too!
I think the narrative dirfts a little into meme territory which the game didn't need imho with such a good premise and quality of execution, but I had a great experience anyway.

Developer

It was tough to balance the meme territory with absurdity. I'm glad you had fun with it. My buddy had a blast doing all the voices etc.

Liked the connection themed minigames. However I hit a gamebreaking bug every new level I played where the screen was blank and the timer would always run out prompting multiple restarts.

Developer (2 edits)

I'm currently trying to recreate this bug. I've had a bunch of people play this build and none hit anything like this. Was this by chance happening on transmission 6? Also the screen doesn't light up with dialogue unless you're on solid green.
