Simple and straightforward to play.

The concept is unique and fits the theme well.

Really like the hand-drawn MS Paint style sprites compared to just downloading a random asset pack.

The audio is very quiet. If you hadn’t mentioned voice acting in the description I wouldn’t have even noticed. I had to ramp up my speakers quite high to hear the audio.

Compared to other Godot submissions you nailed text scaling. This has been particularly bothersome on my 5k2k monitor

Developer

I used canvas-item stretch move which worked out pretty well. We had a hard time balancing audio volume, as we had different outcomes at our devices we used for testing. We need a better solution to normalize this next time... thank you for playing, we really loved your game too :)

This is a cute little game. At first I was like... I'm not really interested. But after a few minutes I found myself wanting to hear more as I continued, discovering the characters became interesting. Some of them are interconnected and the dialogue was pretty entertaining. I had some laughs. The dialogue and character interactions were well thought out and a lot of care and attention to detail went into weaving the mechanics and theme together to make something unexpectedly interesting. This would not be a game I would play, but I appreciate it for what it is, and I did enjoy the experience. If you appreciate silliness and like being generally entertained, this is a game you should play. Its uniqueness if charming.

Nice game!

It does what it does, simply and straightforward. Out of the many things I can say, I could see this implemented in different graphical styles, but then again, that may detract from its original charm. I can also see this as a standalone system whose mechanics could be added to another game/genre. It's a great concept~ which also sounds funny to say because we actually used to communicate like this XD

Thank you for your comprehensive feedback :) we had lots of ideas with spy cables for evesdropping longer conversations, crime, intrigue and more, but ultimatly decided to go for a non-political and cozy way. Glad you liked it, especially if it usually isn't your time of game :)

Those are great ideas... Like on a large scale, I was like... this would be so cool in a spy type first person fps/ or adventure game. Evesdropping to discover clues on how to solve other game puzzles. Yesss, I would be interested to see other ways ya'll would develop the system into to and adapt to other things.

It's a me Mario! Fun voices, would be interested in seeing the three cables being implemented!

Developer

We wanted more cables too, but we ran out of time ;) thank you for playing

Brilliant! must come back and play it a little more when I have more time :D

Developer

Glad you like it :)

Really cool game! I had a lot of fun with the dialogues—every character feels unique and memorable. I’d love to see the game get more complex later on, especially with those other two cables! :D

Developer(+1)

We first thought of using more cables and calls and give the player the choice with an spy-cable who to listen to, but as it is a jam game, we pruned some features. Glad you liked it, thank you for playing :)

Great story and mechanics! Indeed a Operator simulator!

Thank you for playing :)

Funny interactions, with good distinctive voice acting. Well done!

Developer

Thank you :)

Great game! really fun. Played it twice and ended up finding 2 specials. The only issue I had was that the volume of the game was quite low. But great work on all that voice acting, loved it!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, we still haven't figured out why it is so hard to hear on some devices. :(

Thank you for playing.

Would make a nice mobile game

Developer(+1)

It does work on mobile, downside: my lovely cursor is missing :)

the physics on the cable and the coffee vfx were nice little touches to make the scene look more believable. It's fascinating that connecting phone calls together used to be an entire career for people.

Developer(+1)

My grandpa actually worked at such a place for some time :D We are proud of the coffee cup and are glad you liked it too. We planned on hanging a clock at the wall, but time ran out too soon. Thank you for playing :)

I was hoping for more of a puzzle element or something rather than just connecting people. Neat idea though.

Developer

Thank you for playing. We went with full on cozy this jam :)

This is a unique game! The voices are good, 'Ralph' might need counselling tho... :)  The mechanics of the game work well, and particulalry  impressed with the attention to detail (collider on the cup - I wouldv'e forgot to do that!).  Very good!

Developer

Yeah, Ralph should probably get checked if his lineage crosses with the cookie monster 😅 glad you liked it!

Fun and relaxing game. So much effort into the voices. It’s very professional. I would love to see more mechanics into the game. GG.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, we had fun with some of the more "extreme" voices :)

As always in a jam, more mechanics were planned but cut according to the (time-)budget xD

Ooh this was so good! I’ve recently wondered exactly how it must’ve felt to be a switchboard operator, given it feels like such a foreign concept in today’s age. Especially being there for such a tight cast of characters, it made it feel super good to unlock the star interactions! I definitely missed out on a few that I could tell down the line, and that is definitely something you’d get to know in a small town. Great writing, and amazing job getting so many done and recorded for a short jam.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing!

We totally had fun (and a little confusion) voicing about a dozen each :)

Loved the goofy voices and the MS Paint art style, it gave the whole game a ton of personality. Great job!

Developer

As I really can't draw, 20 by 20 pixel faces is the top of my ability xD

We also thought, real voices would give the game more oomph, so we prioritised them.

Also we really had fun recording 🤭

A fun little game. I got to play god with people's lives via the telephone! 😈
Nice entry!

Such a cute little take on the same idea!

I had a lot of fun with your voices, and also the meta-fun by giving me the ability to uniquely connect “random-but-fated” people together!

I was however hoping to be able to use the other two pretty (teased) cables, and would have liked to be able to do the connecting myself (tried to click and drag a bit and felt silly when I realised…), but I get why those were left out. I also found it odd that the Operator physically disconnects, but is still able to hear the callers talk?

All in all though, I think you made a very cutesy, atmospheric little game, and I love to see it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, we also had a lot of fun with the voices :D

Yeah, Janine is so well included in her community, that she just KNOWS what they say 😅

We had plans for multiple cables, but the jam time did not permit it :)
