Hello, thank you for participating in the Writing Jam #14! Please email customers@onepagerules.com, to claim your participation minis!
How can this be the first Orc-focused story I've read in the jam so far? Thank Gork (or is it Mork?) it's such a fun one! Really love the formatting on this one as well. Gives it a very unique voice. Great work!
So glad you enjoyed, in case it was missed unscramble the character names 😸
You gave the Orc such a fun, memorable voice, which I really appreciated. The choice to juxtapose a reality-warping orc with a logic-adhering robot was also an inspired one, though I admit I ended up not quite grasping the ending. I might just need to brush up on my Orc lore, though.
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment! To answer your question about the ending, as the OPR factions are still very much a proxy for 40K (for now) the basis for the story is the Robot Legions needing to learn why color and ork tech seems to work when it shouldn’t. Impossible I know but maybe this is really about a 40K ork who got himself transported to the OPR universe through some ‘portytek’ accident just so the OPR factions can learn:
ORKZ IZ GREEN AND DA BEST
RED WUNZ GO FASTA
YELLOW IZ FOR FLASHY GITZ WIV LOTZA TEEF
BLUE IZ FOR LUCK
PURPLE IZ FOR SNEAKY GITZ
BLACK IZ DED ‘ARD AND WHY GOFFZ IZ DA BIGGEST AND BADDEST
WHITE IZ DA COLOUR OV DEFF
Fun story, though a little dense with jargon and some tense changes that made for a bit of friction in reading. Love the concept though!
What I like is the basic mismatch: Kharcelos-221B keeps treating Yorimat like a solvable data problem, while the Orc keeps operating by a kind of weaponized nonsense.
I also like the escalation near the end, where the anomaly is no longer just Yorimat escaping, but the Legionnaire systems themselves starting to absorb Orc logic.
My main issue is density. The first half spends a lot of words explaining setup, containment, prior escapes, and the weapon history before the story reaches its sharpest idea. I think it would hit harder if the prose were tighter and the experiment started sooner.
The mix between robot and orc is really nice! Was very pleasant to read. I'm not sure I really understood the ending though (might be lacking knowledge on this faction).
really great read !
That was a lot of fun, nicely done!
properly silly in the good way. a robot trying to apply serious science to orc nonsense is already funny, but watching reality slowly lose the argument makes it better. good fun. great work.
Not technically in the OPR universe I guess but well, doesn't that make it even more impossible?! This story had me chuckling, the juxtaposition between Robots and Orcs is magnificent and you pay a lot of attention to detail. Great stuff!
