The cloverleaf pattern was a little obscure to work out, but I was able to not get disqualified for a while so I count it as a win! I think you nailed the atmosphere and presentation though. Also controlling the horse felt very satisfying. The bonding mechanic was a little obscure too, but overall a cute and enjoyable entry. Say hi to your 10 horses!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing!

And I will pass along your greeting. One of them is actually ours. the others belong to family members. But we still spoil them rotten.

I couldn’t figure out what exactly was intended by cloverleaf pattern. Even doing my best to carefully read the cw, ccw, ccw, barrel order instructions resulted in being disqualified. The cue system wasn’t all that clear to me either. Sometimes it would increase with space and sometimes it would go down.

The game feel for controlling the horse is really fun. You nailed the aesthetic with the environment and music choice.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback!

Nice game, Love the aesthetics and controlling horse is fun, I got disqualified though but I enjoyed the vibe and music. Nice work!

Thank you for playing the game!

I'll be honest, I couldn't figure out how to use the cues successfully. It appeared as if they were always available from the text prompt, but sometimes the bar went up and sometimes it went down.

I appreciate the support for controllers. Also for input rebinding, something I have yet to include successfully in any game, jam or otherwise. (Though rebinding the bond button on controller seemed to cause the game to lag out a ton afterward and I needed to refresh the browser.)

Here's my best result:

I had a fun time with it! I'd have done more if there was more to do. Great job making a game jam entry while having 10 (awesome) horses in your lives!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!!! I am glad you had fun. Part of my thought was that each level was a different event. Pole bending, 50 yard dash, keyhole etc. Maybe some day we can add those levels.

While only one of the horses is our, the others belong to family members. Either way, I love spoiling those cute little ones!

Always nice to see animals, and I don’t see too many horses in these jams. Had to look up barrel racing, but was neat to learn about. Good job getting this working, paths can be annoying to work with.

Thank you for playing!

I was unfamiliar with barrel racing also but only got disqualified once. It would be nice if it showed a ring on the ground or something to indicate how close to the barrel I had to stay. I only managed 22 or 23 seconds as my best time. Wasn't sure how the spacebar mechanic worked.

A neat concept! Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! If I were to do this over again, I would definitely add a visual indicator of what path to take as a hint feature, due to the overwhelming feedback on that.

14.77. I had to look up barrel racing on youtube to figure out how to play your game. I think your controls are impressive. I don't really understand the cue thing so I just mashed space bar. Good job!

Nice time! Thank you for playing our game!

Ten horses, huh?
You are truly lucky...and was I for trying this cool game, and learning about that racing challenge.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! :-)

16.20 was my best. Very polished entry, I enjoyed it!

About 17s after a few tries… It was actually more enjoyable than I thought (no offense), the controls are well balanced and the music is enticing :D Nice job!

Developer

Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!

Nice job! I enjoyed horsing around ;D

Would be a looooot easier if there was a drawn pattern on the ground of how to go around the barrels, especially for the non horse barrel knowledgeable like me. Or even just a diagram that pops up at the beginning of the game.

Overall though, it's bug free and plays nicely ^o^

naturally this one has a bit of a learning curve, but you guys killed it with how satisfying it is to play as the horse, as well as the environment. Despite failing a bunch of times... I just kept trying! 23.39 for me :)

Also, huge points for putting your real life passion into a game - I love horses!

Developer

Thank you!! Don't worry about it, I failed a bunch too. Between us, my best time was a 33 and some odd change. Haha.

Aren't horses the best!! They are like over grown dogs!! Have always had a soft spot in my heart for horses. I feel very blessed to have sweet and awesome horses in our lives. They may not all be ours, but I love (and spoil) them like they are!

Very interessting play. My best was 25.2. At first I was a little bit confused on the mechanics but then it clicked. Was a fun little play.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Definitely needs a visual tutorial - every time I tried, I got disqualified after the first barrel on the right.  Maybe I need to go around it even more, but I feel pretty confident I managed to get a clover pattern :(

Developer

Thank you for trying out our game!

The tutorial has definitely been a recurring theme. My wife tried updating the game page description to provide some guidance, let me know if that helps. Working on updating the in-game tutorial with pictures would definitely be a logical next step.

Submitted

I wish it has visual instruction like a picture on the tutorial or highlight. I didn't know about the clover pattern barrel racing so I did have to research on it . But once I know how to play it was fun because the horse controller is really nice. I tried a few times to get the best score and I got 17.0 .

The horse controller is really well made.

Developer

Thank you for playing our game and providing the feedback!

It was enjoyable to ride the horse around! The controls feel satisfying and the environment is well made.

The connection theme isn’t very clear to me, but it’s obvious from the attention to detail that you really love horses! Congratulations!

Developer

Thank you playing and the great feedback!

We went with an abstract take on the theme, going with the connection between a horse and rider.

As a barrel racing expert...

Just kidding, but I did notice I can circle a barrel multiple times without disqualification.

Great job, I like the way it looks and plays.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Yep, you caught the “good enough for a game jam” logic, versus taking the time to implement a full state logic for making sure the cloverleaf is perfect lol.

Submitted

Really loved the horse animations but I'm not sure how to get the bond up despite doing the clover patterns, but great job nonetheless, the movement is really satisfying!

Developer

Thank you for playing our game!

To build bond, it’s a time mechanic with a trigger. You have to hit the bond cue button within the window, which changes speed based on your current speed.

Great game!  Horse controls well with both keyboard and gamepad.  Looks promising.

Developer

Thank you very much!!! Hopefully we can add more levels, that are other events at barrel racing shows.

Submitted(+1)

“Actually, you surprised me — it’s impressive what’s possible to build with the Godot engine. The 3D work and the horse movement were really nice!

Developer

Thank you!!!

All the coding credit goes to hubby.
