Incredible art style and mechanics! Regarding the mechanics, I love how well they fit together, especially the platform quill and the double jump, it just opens up a whole world of possibilities!

I just felt that the attack quills may be a bit too powerful, as they reduce the "platformer" aspects. Once you can one-shot all the enemies, you can clear a lot of obstacles while jumping. Maybe you could add a cooldown between attacks, or enemies that require multiple attacks to defeat?

In addition, a visual indicator showing the platform quill's lifespan would be great, like making it blink or flash a few seconds before they disappear.

The level design is also very thought out; I like how you have to use each new move separately at first, and then combine them. The final segment of the game was particularly clever in this way! I'm also amazed by the emotions you've managed to create in such a short time of gameplay, as well as by the quality of the animated scenes. Bravo!

(Just as a sidenote, I went the wrong way near the beginning and woke up the bats before I had the attack quills (my bad), but then I died, and the bats were camping on the respawn point. It was a bit tricky to get out of that situation ><')

Very nice game! Although story is a bit too dark, I like the idea and gameplay, especially a needlessly large quill, lol! Very well done!

Nice game and story, also cute art to boot. Good level design also, can't believe this is all done by only one person in 10 days.

who would have thought of putting a hedgehog in a platform game, nice and original ideas  - I liked the firing quills to make platforms,  great game.

Ow no, the way they move they paws when it dies :( Very cute game, you've managed to put a whole set of platformer mechanics in your game. The character seems a bit floaty (and/or heavy) but overall nice job! The handmade artwork really brings a nice touch!

Wow! There was an absolute dearth of 2D platformers in this game jam, so I'm so happy to see this. And not only was it a really fun little platformer with some great progression and fun levels, but it also had a wonderful little story. And all that wrapped up in this great little handcrafted art style. Very cool, thanks for sharing.

Good game!  Maybe the difficulty ramped up a bit once you get the double jump, but continuous respawns helped that! :)  Once I go tthe hang of it, it was good.  the shooting mecahanic was a good addition and one that I didn;t expect to see.  Graphics and sound fx are cute.  Good job!

Nice game, very cute and a bit sad. The later jump-sections were a bit tricky, but thats fine. Good submission 😊

Nice Game, it was basic but the increase in abilities per level made it fun to progress through. the jump was floaty, could have increased the gravity a bit, and the parallax was the opposite direction, but nice game overall there was story too. And you made a good decision to include the spirit light that guides the player through the level, else it would have been hard. Nice game.
Please Checkout my entry as well :)

This was a great story! The game itself was mostly a pretty generic 2d platformer mechanically. But I really loved the quill platform mechanics. And the story sold it all. I am writing this about 20 minutes afterwards, because i cried and couldn't see for minutes when I finished the game.

Nice story that you executed well in the short timeframe here. Was able to reach the end of the game, so while I can see why some may have expected a different fall speed, I still was able to play through without frustration. The quill shot was the most interesting feature for me. Really nice work on this!

This. Is. So. Sad !

Man, I had thrills when I finished your game ! More than a connection, it's a special boundary you're talking about. It will speak to anyone having kids, and maybe to kids as well (though I would not recommend it to kids due to the story).

Gamewise, the graphics are neat. Did you draw them in advance, or specifically for the jam ? If the latter, congratulations, everything is well drawn and built knowing the time limitation.

I just don't like the sound effects. Personal opinion.

I would have liked to play with a controller, it would have been more comfortable.

Thanks for the touching story.

Thank you very much for your kind comment, the nice things you said about the game made me very happy, for the in game visuals I found some hedgehog drawings on pinterest, I drew them in inkscape, everything in the game was drawn in inkscape, for the color palette I preferred complementary colors purple and yellow, of course I also used black and white with gradients, the art part actually didn’t take as much time as it looks, with a few tutorials I think anyone can create simple 2d assets, I’m glad you liked it, the real challenge for me was resolution of this PNG exports and animations, I didn’t have much experience in that area

It’s not actually a very deep story, but it was something I wanted to get out of my system. Back in 2019–2020, I saw some images of animals that died in the wildfires in Australia. There was a picture of a mother and baby hedgehog that had died in the fire.

In the photo the mother looked like she was shielding her baby, however in the end they both lost their lives, even though they were animals I felt that motherhood is a very strong instinct, when we say "connection" this topic immediately came to my mind

I’m not usually a sensitive person, but that image really affected me. This game is just an alternative where that baby hedgehog didn’t die.

Thanks for playing.

For only 10 minutes of play, you got the emotion to hit. Very well done.
