How do you feel about your results?

Looking at my results at first I was like nooo, but then yeah that's about right, even a little high. They did reflect the things I worked hardest on. Then I looked at some others and some of your games are way underrated but at the same time the top games were genuinly great and deserved the 4.5s.

Also, I pretty much skipped story and deserved the 1 stars for that lol. I'm gonna try harder on story next time.

How do you feel about your results?

Accurate?

What lessons will you take from them?

I was kinda relieved with my score. I had a limited time budget (~10% of the jam time) so I said if I landed in the top 50% I'd be happy. It's not my first rodeo but with that limited a time either the prototype is fun or not - no turning back!!

On the story point. Some games simply don't or shouldn't have a story as it would detract from the experience (the original 1993 Doom being a perfect example) - though every year I've considered doing something to up my average. I know some people vote 3 for story for games they liked but didn't want to lower the average. It's a perennial issue.

My usual thing is just to look at my 'fun' rating and rank my game that way. Although in this case this year has been a poor showing from me :D I think it was a fair result though.

Hello.
As a rookie (3 jam games is not much), I don't pretend being able to compare myself with experienced devs, artists or musicians. So ranking comes second.
What I consider most is the comments. They tell me how the game was received, what went right, what went wrong, what to improve. And I'm even happier when the comments are nice and constructive. Funny ones are great as well. 😊
The ranking sure is interesting. It gives a quick overview of how the game was on each category. We are not rewarded by rank in this jam, so I do take the rank into account, but not too much.
What I'm more worried about is to be compared to games more or less heavily developed with AI. They will probably look nicer (except slops), they will probably run better (if the code is reviewed), they will definitely draw more attention. I don't feel we play with the same rules.

Many jams have a rule against ai, they kick out entries made with ai or allow only miniscule use of it. Hopefully next time gamedev.tv also reconsiders it.

Also some jams like global jam require source code to be given, so the ai games will not pass likely, if the dev tried to conceal it for example.

I was positive surprised, i was looking into the Jam by Chance, and because i tried twine i thought i try it and maybe can get some Feedback about Story and what could be better. But to be honest i never thought that i would get such great Feedback and rates in the Story for a short Prototyp/Demo so i am very Happy about my rank in Story. Understanable that the other criterias are lower, since i have barely Audio or Images in this Version, and the Loop wasnt ready.

As someone that used Twine, I suggest to try Ren’py (it’s free). Ren’py is actually super easy, if you take some time to learn the basics. Twine in comparison is too convoluted, for example I couldn’t add music without odd glitches in Twine and trying multiple times. In Renpy everything is much simpler. (I still love Twine and will use it).

Also, jams with ratings tend to get feedback the most, because people hope you will rate their games in return. So if you want more feedback, jams with ratings will more likely provide it regardless of how big the jam is.

Congrats on successful jamming, good luck with your next works!

I'm pretty happy with my results overall. This was my first jam, I've only been doing game dev for about 6 months and I only had a day to build my game. So I'm actually pretty amazed how well it did.

It also did a good job of showing me where my weak spots are so I can get better at them.

So overall a bit sad fun was my lowest score but happy for the knowledge and overall success.

Just looking for the fun rank, I do not care about the rest, and with 29th I'm really happy! :D

As this is my first ever game jam and first ever game that made public, I am very satisfied with my result.  Many people offered me valuable suggestion that I sure will benefit on the rest of my game dev journey. Also very grateful that the host Game Dev TV provided a free class of my choice so i picked something i always want to learn and so do those creators that supplied free assets even though I didn't use them, I sure will for future games. Reading above, I think most people gathered here to create, to learn and by ranking in the middle of the entire submission, that means I now have 400+ games/game devs I can learn from.

Just hope that this game jam page stay longer so I have time to play through all those that has done better than mine. This (site) will be the most valuable collections of the online course I ever have had on marketing, game design, and community building.

My goal was a working Unreal Engine HTML5 build, and hopefully a course. I got both, so it is fine.

I know I didn’t do my best because I didn’t use all time for the jam, but I also wasn’t planning to do game jams this year at all :D I already have extensive jam experience, my goal currently is to work on my “serious game”. Didn’t even plan to touch HTML5 after last year’s attempt, but it happened during the jam for no reason…

I know all my weaknesses, but I covered my last years’ issues well this time, so it is all good. It was also funny how my games are lore heavy usually, and here I had zero lore whatsoever.

This is my 13th jam so I’m super chill about results and everything else related to it. Just vibin’
