Very interesting twist on the original! Really liked the idea of a level being ongoing until the animals are returned to their pen. Would be interested to hear this with a chiptune version of the song and some revamped sound effects.

If you keep working on this, I definitely agree with Fifth Layer's assessment! A bit of onboarding, a story hook, and really clear UI would go a long way in keeping me interested in this game.

Thanks for playing!

Not sure if I'll keep working on this game or not yet. I appreciate the feedback either way and will keep it in mind if I do.

On the music, I'm curious what exactly you mean by "chiptune". Do you mean something totally 8/16-bit? Or just more similar to the PS1/N64 style? Does it need to be lo-fi or would something simply more synthy/midi-based be okay?

Nicly done! Love the poster art!

This was pretty fun, I liked the twist on having the player return the captured enemies back to the pen. It seems like that is the main goal rather than picking up all the pellets? Very cool take on the theme.

Someone commented that there was a shop, is that the part where there are some items you can pick up that have upgrades? I didn't realize I was paying for them.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Indeed, the upgrades at the end of the round are the "shop", and you use the pellets to buy them, so there's still a good reason to collect the pellets. You must've been collecting a lot to not notice, lol.

This is my review for Blipherd’s Garden’s

Overall

A complete game, both similar but also very different from the OG in many interesting ways. (interesting is the word today, sorry!). It’s fun and each level adds interesting challenges. Unfortunately it lacks visual juice (particles, shakes, etc.) but it could be an interesting challenge for a post jam polish.

Graphics

Hand-made graphics are very cute and add an interesting analog touch. I don’t know if the 3d adds a lot to the game feel: dots, being billboard sprites, seem to disappear at certain camera angles. The rural/farmy style is very appropriate for the sheep herder theme.

Sound

Music and sound are very analogic which is nice and interesting and appropriate for the theme, even if a bit too loud. I would have liked a bit of processing, minimum mastering/eq, but I’m a sound maniac, so feel free to ignore…

Gameplay

Very similar to the OG, old tactics still work.

Adding a shop is an interesting choice, but it’s not clear what you’re buying. What’s a blip?

A bit of onboarding/tutorial would have been nice, maybe the first level could be turned into this?

Collision check is a bit buggy,

Attract mode is a very interesting touch, in theme with the arcade vibe

I'll take "interesting" as a compliment :)

Thanks for the detailed feedback, I think you've made a really good assessment. I agree with most of your points (except maybe the 3D one). Visual juice is one of my weaknesses for sure. I tend to get caught up more in the level design and mechanical logic than in polishing the game feel.

For what it's worth, "bliips" are the sheep-like creatures. I thought that was obvious from the game's description, but I'm always making the mistake of assuming everyone will read that, which is a bad assumption and it would've been good to make that clearer in the game.

Thanks for playing!

Great aesthetic, very interesting bringing in the guitar as you pick up dots.  Proper input handling makes it feel good to play.  Overall, great work

Developer

Thanks! I appreciate it!

Love the music, your guitar playing sounds great! Like the 3D approach, and movement is well handled. Nice game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I was worried the guitar might be too sloppy since I was rushing to get it recorded, so I'm glad to hear you liked it.

Appreciate the feedback, thanks for playing!

The best 3D take I have played in this jam. The art style and presentation was also very unique and much appreciated! But the best part is that your game had proper input buffering that did not force the player to hold down keys continuously - or worse, press repeatedly - and THANK YOU for that :)) This of course contributes greatly to the solid controls that feel good which in turn means the gameplay is tight and responsive.

What I'm getting at? I thoroughly enjoyed this.

I'm really glad to hear you appreciated the input handling, that was something I really wanted to get right. Plus, I think your entry absolutely nailed that, so it's cool to hear that coming from you. Thanks for playing!

This might be one of my favorite entries I've ranked so far! The game was really dead on having that 5th Generation Gaming (N64/PS1) aesthetic. I also enjoyed how the music worked in the game, like it goes from playing upbeat music to a more toned song when collecting the power pellet. Stellar entry btw! ^^

Developer(+1)

That's super encouraging to hear, thanks! I'm glad the 5th gen style and soundtrack landed for you, those were aspects I really wasn't sure would work for the game. Thanks for playing!

Good job on the entry! I really like the catch and return mechanic as a twist on the original game.

Thanks! I appreciate it!
