Project Overview

<(Working Title) A Week With an Angel> is a philosophical visual novel about a high school girl searching for her sense of self between virtual reality and the real world.

After meeting a mysterious girl in VRChat and reconnecting with her childhood friend in reality, the player is confronted with questions surrounding identity, continuity, and the meaning of existence. The game is built around choices with no correct answers, accumulating philosophical conversations, and a twist waiting at the end of the week. The project draws inspiration from works such as Disco Elysium and I Want to Hold Aono-kun So Badly I Could Die. Genre: GL / Yuri.

Positions Open

2D Artist (1)

  • Character sprite production (Live2D-ready separated parts)
  •  Cutscene illustration
  •  Live2D experience not required (guidelines for part separation will be provided)
  •  Portfolio required

Unity Developer (1) Found

  • Visual novel system implementation
  •  UI / cinematic direction implementation
  •  Live2D integration
  •  Branching dialogue system implementation

Sub Scenario Writer (1)

  • Due to the original script being written in Korean, we are looking for a native English speaker who can adapt the dialogue into vivid, natural-sounding English while preserving the tone and emotional nuance of the original text
  • Portfolio required

Workflow

  • Online collaboration via Discord
  •  Weekly meetings

Monetization & Direction

While monetization is planned for the future, this project may be difficult to sustain if joined with expectations of immediate profit. At the moment, the primary goals are completing a meaningful work and building strong portfolio material. We are looking for people who genuinely want to create something memorable together. Revenue, if generated, will be distributed according to contribution.

The current plan is to launch a crowdfunding campaign after completing a playable Day 1 demo.

Looking For People Who...

  • Are willing to stay committed through the completion of the project
  •  Have an interest in artistic indie games
  •  Enjoy works with a similar sensibility to Disco Elysium or I Want to Hold Aono-kun So Badly I Could Die
  •  Are comfortable with philosophical themes and GL / Yuri elements

Additional Notes

  • The scenario outline and overall structure have already been completed, and scriptwriting is currently in progress.
  •  If deadlines are repeatedly missed or communication becomes impossible, team replacement may become unavoidable. We are looking for collaborators who respect each other's time.
  •  Even if your role is not explicitly listed above, feel free to reach out if the project strongly interests you.

Scenario Sample

  • Excerpt from the currently completed script.

[First-person view overlooking the bottom of a cliff. At the edge of the frame, a pair of feet stand near the cliffside.]

Every time I shift my footing, clumps of dirt and gravel crumble loose and tumble downward. Down, down... into the black void below. But honestly, I don't even know if “black void” is the right phrase for it. A void is supposed to be nothingness, isn't it? Can something that's nothing possibly have a color?

  • Maybe what we call “black” is just the absence of color.
  •  Then I said it wrong. Maybe I should've called it “a colorless void.”
  •  Forget it...

There's nothing down there to reflect light, so of course no color from below could ever reach my eyes... Wait. If there's truly nothing there, then how am I even seeing this void at all?

  • You can't see “nothing,” that's the whole point. A void isn't something visible.
  •  But I can see black!
  •  Forget it...

My footing slips for a moment. A loose pebble strikes another, then skids over the cliffside and disappears below. Into a place that's “nothing,” so it can become “nothing” too...

  • Forget it...

???: If you jump off there, all you'll lose is cybermoney, y'know~

[Scene Transition]

When I turned around, there was a girl standing between the bushes I'd pushed through earlier. She looked around my age. Maybe seventeen? Her hair and clothes fluttered softly as though caught in a breeze that didn't exist, almost like she was running some absurdly high-quality custom physics setup. The movement gave her an uncanny sense of unreality, like she wasn't fully anchored to the world around her.

tenshicore: See, technically I'm an angel, so I can't just ignore stuff like suicide, okay? Pretty sure it's written somewhere in the Official Angel Rulebook~ (tenshicore shrugs awkwardly with a sheepish grin. Her tiny angel wings flap along with the motion.)

tenshicore: Oh, you just rolled your eyes, didn't you? I saw that! Even roleplaying has levels, you know. If you're gonna commit to the bit, details matter~ (tenshicore bounces around dramatically before calming herself down.) Anyway, I'm tenshicore. You can call me Angel-chan. (she gives a playful wink.)

  • I am... [Player username input]

tenshicore: Heeey, you're really not in a position to judge me, huh? Your username's just as weird as mine.

A translucent friend request window materializes before my eyes. Violet particles sparkle softly around the accept button.

tenshicore: C'mon, let's be friends~

  • username: I wasn't actually planning to jump. I was just looking around.

tenshicore: Uh-huh, suuure~ “Just looking around?” (she grins like she's watching someone tell an embarrassingly obvious lie.) Do you always “look around” standing that close to the edge~?

  • username: You like angels or something?

tenshicore: I kinda like stuff like the afterlife, gods, mythology... things like that. Angels are more of a recent obsession, though. Messengers standing between the human world and the spiritual world... beings caught somewhere between humanity and divinity... I dunno. I think there's something meaningful about that.

  • Well... it's cute. Doesn't totally not suit you. (I mumble quietly.)

tenshicore: (she bursts into laughter, spamming ridiculous rolling-on-the-floor emotes everywhere.) What does “doesn't totally not suit you” even mean?! You could just say it suits me, you know~ You've got a sneaky side to you, huh, username~

  • We'll never truly know what comes after death.

The moment you die, consciousness disappears. No, before that — the very existence of “you” disappears. If there's no “you” left, then who would even see or hear or experience an afterlife?

tenshicore: Well, yeah. In that sense, not only can we never know the afterlife — we can't even experience death itself. (she shrugs.) But that's exactly why it's fascinating~ It's romantic. Pure romance.

  • ["I..." ending choice] Thanks, but I really wasn't planning to fall. (...Probably. Honestly, I'm not even sure myself. Maybe I just spaced out because of old habits from school.)

Your game sounds really interesting!! I'd love to participate in the development.

Though, while I'm not that good with Unity (haven't worked with it in a few years), I do have experience with C# and making implementing visual novel systems. I also know C#, and I'm currently building my own 'engine' using it, so I probably could get the hang of Unity pretty quickly too.

I see Yuri, angels, and visual novels, I get summoned! I do 2D art, and I will leave my portfolio here. If it suits your game style, I would love to work with you! https://canva.link/m34ztwsxjl0cubf

This project looks especially interesting. I am a 2D illustrator who mainly draws black-and-white or grayscale comics and illustrations, but I'm not sure whether this fits the main artistic direction of the project

It's just like this — I've already sent you a friend request on Discord

Hello!!!

I love Disco Elysium, and I love yuri!!! This project sounds amazing.

I am a 2D artist, and for full transparency, I have never worked with visual novels nor am I familiar with Live2D. However, I can learn on the go.

Hello tngtied,

I read your post about your philosophical visual novel and I am incredibly intrigued by the concept. I know you are not explicitly listing a Music Composer in your open positions, but since you mentioned that anyone interested can reach out, I would love to offer my help.

I love atmospheric and philosophical stories. I would be happy to create a fitting, emotional, and atmospheric soundtrack for your project completely for free as a passion project to help you build the Day 1 demo.

Let me know if you would be interested in adding a composer to your team!

We can chat more on Discord: musicmuse99.
