It looks like you put a ton of work into this! It has a very classic NES feel. The overworld screen looks amazing and suggests a massive amount of content -- especially for a jam game. As a new player to the game, I felt like there was too much text tightly packed to read up front... would be nicer to roll out the lore in smaller chunks after I'm already invested in the game. Even like the first town seemed like there were too many buildings; and the first dungeon was too large and too difficult (maybe make those round shell things easier to kill... like one hit instead of three) -- especially since the player dies so easily. The very low jump height was tough to get accustomed to after playing other really jumpy games. Also, the two grey columns on the sides look cool, but take away from your playable real estate.
I love the classic feel of the art style and colors! Thank you!
Oh wow, when did you have time to make all this? This should simply not be a 2-week game jam game. As a fan of early Falcom, it's right up my alley, too. Perfect scores across the board from me. One suggestion: When an NPC dialog is playing and you press a button, the dialog window closes immediately, but I think it would be better if the first button press shows the full text at once and only if you press the button after the text is finished you close the dialog.
Art and concept are great as usual here! It took me a while to figure out how to level up my character, but once I'd done so a few times it was smooth sailing through the dungeons. I snagged the first three stars pretty quickly and I'll keep plugging away for the rest. The only thing I'd consider changing so far based on my play through would be to either have the player respawn in the last place they rested/leveled up or make backtracking through the dungeons a little easier—maybe give the player a very fast shortcut after completing the boss/finding the exit? Thanks for making and sharing your game!
This is awesome!
I am really enjoying my time with the game - and from the overworld map - looks like there is quite a bit of content!
I was getting Legend of Zelda: The Adventure of Link + Dragon Warrior/Quest vibes from the game.
Not sure if there was an issue with my controller - or maybe with the itch site - but I would randomly not be able to confirm/ decline selections (I got stuck in the overworld map after a few trips from the Cave Dungeon - I had the game full-screened and clicked within the game window to make sure I wasn't outside the game session/ scrolling the itch page) I was able to still move around the map selector - I just couldn't confirm/ decline.
I managed to save before this issue occurred so I'll try playing again soon - hopefully it is just a one-off issue. ^_^"
Great work on this game!
Wow you were really able to get a lot done in the amount of time! I liked the combat, and the cast of characters in the village. The art was great, and the music was calming as well. Great game!
best game
Cool game in various ways, but the massive border definitely makes me think of old computer games way more than NES games.
the game looks pretty good especially in the art factor, it def has that nes feel! and i can say the game has potential if you decided to keep working on it, the music was simple but it did the job well, i liked the amount of npcs i can talk to, and the game just feels pretty big too which is kinda crazy for a jam game lol ,but i felt that the attack range was a bit too small, so i just keep getting hit, also there wasn't an i-frame feature so if an enemy decided to hug you it's so over :'), death is def punishing in this game since most of your gold go bye bye if you die multiple times, which isn't really bad but mr king gave me his gold just for to waste all to that priest guy lmao, other than that the game is really well done and pretty polished too
if you have some free time maybe check out my game and drop me your feedback i'd love to hear it :)
Superb execution and polish. Overwhelming entry and Death is pretty unforgiving due that after dying and grabbing a chest I lost most of my gold, which was frustrating. Will surely come back to see more! great work!
Feels like im doing this game a disservice for not playing it for hours on end, but what I did play was spectacular, especially for a project completed in under two weeks, and without any usage of a game engine too! The only real criticism I have are that pressing up to jump never feels good in a sidescroller, and there were some minor grammatical/spelling errors in the introduction.
This game is super pretty, and feels like a low rez skyrim. Well done, looking forward to finishing this!
The game is big asf, i dunno why didn'it it immediatly gain attention! Love it! nailed the NES feeling btw
It is the biggest game I have ever made. I average 150-250kb (yes kilobytes) when I submit a game. This one is closer to 400kb.
I think the pixel art looks delicious, I love the use of it on the map especially. I think the controls with the jumping are a little bit jank, but this will defo be a game I return to. For future submissions that I do, this is definitely the bar that I want to reach if I want to improve me skills as a game dev, so that I'll eventually surpass you and win this comp someday myself.
Thank you very much for your comments. I always appreciate positivity in both the good and possibly bad points in any project I work on. :)
Oh, big game. Will have to come back to this one.
Up being jump will cause me to die horribly, so that'll be fun.
It would not be a true NES style game if you were not dying horribly.
I wish you the best of luck in your journey. :)
