Theme interpretation and application
We chose "Controlled Side Effects". Abilities are the main movement options for Starfall, and each has 2 unique side-effects that change how that ability functions. For example, there's a double jump in the game, but you can turn that into a glide with the side effect of not gaining any height from said double jump.

cool litttle game. I liked the artistic vibe as well as the music. However I didn't know what to do. I guessed space bar and WASD keys. Other than that I kept getting killed by those floaty eye things. what was I supposed to do there??
Really enjoyed the art + music (doesn't loop). However, most of the controls don't even work, but see great potential if things get polished more + remove all the bugs.
This was great! The art and audio was amazing and the gameplay was very intentional. I couldn't figure out how to quite use the leap but I'll be sure to come back and try again!
So it was longer than what i expected and was well made with good polish and i loved it also beautiful art :3
The game feels very polished and and well thought, I like the risk and reward factor when attacking as filling up the blue star can grant a heal only when engaging with combat with enemies, this encourages players to get familiar with the enemies attack patterns which is something I wish i did lol. The controls also feel very responsive and tight making movement feel satisfying. The art style is especially well done with brightly colored backgrounds and levels while enemies and the player are separated with black outlines helping with visual clarity especially during combat.
Great game and thanks for making it playable on browser cause Im on mac!
I really like the pixel art and environments, but at one point I entered a room with a large blue star that I thought was an ability pick up only for nothing to happen, when I tried to leave the room I couldn't quite make the jump
I had fun, but I did not know what to do after getting the leap ability
Really interesting core mechanics here. I'm not sure if its an issue on my end but I did experience some audio issues. It was also sometimes a bit unclear of what to do and I think a tutorial or objective in the HUD would have been very helpful!
But it was a real joy to play. I really love how much creativity went into the theme implementation.
There's a lot of cool mechanics, and I love how you can choose which ones you want to use! I really liked using the blast ranged one that gives you a knockback boost. If I could give some quick feedback on things: The music didn't end up looping for me which was a bit sad since I quite liked it. For SFX variation, you could do a little bit of pitch randomization (0.9 - 1.1) to keep the SFXs feeling fresh! I was also confused on what those statue things were, maybe I had to interact with them? A quick prompt or keybind would be really great for times when the player is introduced to new mechanics or abilities, although it might be a bit difficult with customizable controls. Lastly, some knockback against enemies you attack could improve game feel, making combat even better. I also ran into a couple bugs, one near the beginning where I fell off the map using double jump, and another where a vertical transition going up didn't work.
I'm writing this much since I really like the mechanics here! You have a lot of the cores systems down, and there's great potential for varied enemy types and playstyles. The graphics and animations also look really great! The screen transition is also super clean. Congrats to you all!
Thanks for writing such thoughtful feedback! I agree that there were some additional places for polish that we just didn’t have time for, but we’re planning on expanding this game after a break. I’m glad that you enjoyed the mechanics! I’m really happy with how our team implemented everything!
