After I got the hang of the controls, this was pretty fun!! I like what you were able to do with a simple control scheme. I would've liked some more feedback on what my actions were doing; originally I misread the instructions and was spinning clockwise to raise the shield, so on my first two runs I just thought it was broken and not taking my inputs lmao (I re-read the instructions after that and got it though!). If every successful CW spin had a visual and/or auditory effect, and a different effect for every successful CCW spin, my actions would feel more impactful. I also think a simple trail following your mouse movements would help feel responsive. But otherwise I like the vibes and main mechanic of your game!

Developer

Thank you for playing and feedback!
Honestly yes, spinning clockwise to raise/start/tighten something is much more intuitivein our world but I decided that following HUD pointer would be confusing in this case; maybe I should try to add such control setting (together with good tutorial haha). Also the cool idea with mouse trail, thanks!

Hello! Great game, and one that fits the theme a lot better than most others. I have a love for more minimalistic arcade-based games so I may be a bit biased.

What you did well:

The UI is simplistic and functional.

Controls are EXTREMELY easy to learn. Along with that, once you die a couple of times confused, the game becomes very easy to understand.

The visuals are nice despite being very basic. The wheel is also easy to understand and read.

The gameplay is great! I'd say that for something this simple mechanics-wise you got a lot of content/fun out of it.

My suggestions:

Consider making a genuine tutorial that showcases the effects of everything you explained in the start screen.

Now, I could of just gotten extremely unlucky but this managed to happen twice to me. One major issue in my opinion is the timing of events. I could be wrong but it is physically impossible to keep the slider on the shield at ALL times, especially because of the events. This in itself isn't a problem, the problem is the fact that sometimes 3+ enemies can hit you at the same time, and if your shield goes down right before their impact, you will instantly go from 3 lives to 0. I think the easiest solution to this is to have i-frames. 1, maybe 2 seconds of invincibility every time you're hit will make it so you cannot instantly get decimated the moment your shield goes down.

A bar/indicator of how fast you're spinning compared to the max speed would be nice. I had no idea how much effort I should put into spinning my mouse to make the wheel move at its peak velocity.

If you were thinking about going down a roguelike path, the game has potential for it. Upgrades like less overheating or time-slow or other random buffs could be extremely cool in endless.

Maybe more particles? Make it feel very satisfying when you block a projectile, or scrap particles when you get hit!

Great work, out of the 30+ games I've seen so far, I believe this fits the theme the best out of all of theme, since not only is something spinning in the game, but you literally have to spin your mouse as the only controls to play.

Developer

Wow, TYSM for such detailed review!

Yeah, sometimes random just kills by spawning tons of asteroids and viscous wheel reaction prevents to stabilize well and... ggwp

There is a little invincibility window after getting hit + I added a little push from the bottom to help player get shield back, but ofc I need to re-visit many parts of balance.
Also, thanks for suggestions, some of them are really interesting to implement in future

Nice all around game! I appreciate the UI being so clean, the graphics might be simple but they have really good taste. I agree the game is a bit confusing at first, even if the tutorial is detailed I think the confusion might come from the lack of physical feedback.

Liked the result a lot honestly, it does give the feeling of a hard-handling spaceship steering wheel fantasy!

Thank you so much for feedback! Mechanics were inspired by "Spinerilla" haha XD

Ok yeah, the first time I tried to play the game I had no idea what I actually had to do. It was a relief that the only controls were only spinning the mouse, which is actually really original!

I’m a fan of the minimalistic style, it looked pretty cool! The music also reminded me of old 2010s electronic music. The game also felt nice to play, and entertaining! Good jobb!! ^^

Thank you for feedback! Hope I will find time and inspiration to re-make tutorial

A bit confusing at first, but it's pretty neat once you get the hang of it!

I think the mechanics are fine, but the presentation of it could maybe be a little more intuitive. Needs more feedback for how strong your spin is, where it's going and such. The reverse spin mechanic should maybe have some clear indication of what it's doing so the text description at the start isn't necessary. Not entirely sure about the other things because it was hard to pay attention to everything hitting the ship without looking away from the shield. Maybe the shield could be a tad closer to the ship?

It's a nice spin on the theme, I like it.

TYVM for your feedback,
I really have troubles with 'tutorial', prob. it should have been just a static screen witj only ship+shield+hud to let player spin and understand how the spinning affects acceleration and shield effectiveness
One of the main idea was just let player focus on shield color and animations and get rid of HUD at all, but it will require a bit more "visual testing"

As soon as I figured out what was going on, it was a blast! Good job :D

Thank you!
