The most unique take on the theme I’ve seen so far! I honestly liked the difficulty, it was just lacking a tutorial to get things going but i feel like the challenge is part of the experience honestly. My only issue is that if you fail you have to retry from the first level which is more frustrating than challenging.

Developer

Glad to hear you enjoyed our take on the theme, and the difficulty!

We're definitely seeing the need for a tutorial, and not making the game fully reset on loss, so sorry that caused some frustration for you too!

Thanks for giving it a try!

Very different take on the theme, hilarious and interesting mechanic!

Thanks for playing!

This game is visually really, really good! I bugged out on a level, my scalpel never came back, and it was also a bit hard to understand what I was supposed to do. I think the gameplay itself is cool, even if a bit simple. But for being such a simple idea you really expanded on it and made it interesting! Great game all in all

Developer

Oh no, we thought we had that bug fixed. Sorry!

Thanks for trying it out, we appreciate the feedback!

I love the idea of this game, and I love the challenge with the delay of the scalpel. I did notice that if you make a line and something enters that line before you finish cutting then that object gets stuck on the line. A short tutorial or text mentioning what to do would be nice since I wasn't sure what my goal was the first time playing. I would also like a way to reset the level instead of having to play through the whole game again as the second and third level can get really challenging. I really like the heartbeat sound effect and how it gets louder the closer you are to losing. I would also really like an addition of background music since I feel music can make any game feel more complete. The gameshow vibes add a bit of seriousness and make it kind of funny if you think about it too hard. A game show about surgery would be so hard to watch if they showed everything lol. I think this is a really cool, original, but challenging game. Good job!

Developer

A little tutorial would have been a nice way to introduce the players to the mechanic for sure. We had the host talk a little bit about the goal of the game at the beginning, but it does fly by a little fast and everyone also interprets text differently.

Thanks for all the feedback and for trying it out!

really good idea and a different take on the game for sure! The delay on the scalpel also made the game quite challenging, while also quite fun simultaneously. the art style was also great.

the lack of background music, even just a quick 10 second loop, wouldve made this game feel better imo, and it was a bit difficult to get a hang of, but nonetheless still a good game.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

We were aiming to make as much of the assets ourselves, but unfortunately we're not very skilled in music making just yet, so that's why there's no background music. Though I'm sure it would have made everything feel more fun and gameshow-y.

We did add in a heartbeat sound to make it feel more high-stakes, but sometimes it doesn't want to play on the web version for some reason.

I love the surgery game show concept, and the mechanic of spinning the scalpel to perform operations is really creative.

Although, I was a little confused about the objective...was I supposed to cut along the dashed lines exactly, or cut around and remove the target area?

I think the delay in controlling the scalpel could work really well if the goal were to follow the dashed lines precisely. Would be simple and to the point.

Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the idea, and I can tell a lot of effort went into making this. Great submission!

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, the objective was to cut around and remove the target item. The dashed lines were just there to show how close a line had to be on each side of the organ, and to turn green when a line/cut is close enough to each side of it. We can get why a dashed line might make you think the cut should be along that line, though, so we probably needed to do a different kind of indicator or more of a tutorial to help explain cutting around the shape.

Glad you enjoyed the idea behind it, though!

It took 4 game overs and reading the comments to suss out that I only needed to make cuts that intersected the dashed lines. I would have liked a do-over for level 2, but I just didn't want to start over. A neat take on the concept of bisecting a play space to trap an enemy or object, but the cutting delay was unexpected and frustrating.

Developer

We had hoped the momentum would make the spin mechanic more fun and gameshow-like, with the idea being you'd have to learn the timing of the spins to get the cuts you want.

Sorry to hear it frustrated you!

Dealay feels unpredictable, but it makes the game more fun!

Developer

For the delay, we were trying to mimic those big wheels on game shows, which makes everything a lot trickier for sure.

Glad you had fun!

I do not believe this person has ever been to medical school....

The delay from when you hit cut to where you actually cut made this a lot more difficult, but the different 'patient' shapes made for some REALLY interesting strategies. I liked this one a lot!

Developer

No need for medical school when you have the Scalpel Spinner 3000!

Really glad to hear you liked it a lot, thanks for trying it out!

I heard this is a new technique Grey's Anatomy hope to explore in their 23rd season. Great fun, however I struggled with the deceleration mechanic of the scalped before stopping to cut. I'd say it was pretty clear where and how to cut, but quite difficult. Nonetheless, a great experience overall, great job!

Developer

Yeah, it can be pretty tricky to get the cuts you want.

Glad you had a great experience, thanks for playing!

looks good! I liked the wheel of fortune + surgery theme, _waay_ out of pocket. I found it quite difficult though! for example on the first level, trying to cut out the organ on the left was really tough

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing!

We know it's a pretty difficult game, especially by the end.

For the first level, you actually only need to add lines to the top and right sides. We were hoping that by showing that two of the guidelines were already green when you start the first level with the organ in the corner, it would teach players that the edges also count as surrounding the organ, but it seems we didn't succeed in making that clear unfortunately. So that's something we'd need to be more thoughtful of to explain if this was a full game.

Sorry to hear it made the experience worse, though!
