This game is awesome. Feels like a better execution of the game i submitted. I wish I had played it before the evaluation period was done.
Thanks a lot for checking it out even after the rating period. ๐
I just tried your game! The idea is indeed a little similar with the DJ Decks and color matching. ๐ค
I'm gonna comment on your game's page for further details.
Love these types of games! Really well done!
Thanks!
Sorry I didn't have the time to check out your game during the rating period. I'll give it a shot when I have the time. ๐
Of course! And don't worry about that, I'm just happy I got to participate at all! xD
I loved this game. Extremely fun and unique rhythm game with great music, UI, and art. I will say trying to accurately pivot between vinyl's and grab the edge to have full control when note patterns are coming in quick succession is kinda challenging. It would be nice if while holding one vinyl down you can use A/D to rotate the other one for micro adjustments. Great game!
It seems you read my gameplay tips ๐
Thanks for the feedback, I got a similar suggestion during playtesting already, but sadly didn't have time to try it out.
The maps are built around having to juggle between the 2 records. (Though still too hard on average)
So just adding the feature doesn't automatically make it better.
There's also the questions of:
how fast the keyboard movement should be, should there be a dash button (to make it faster) or a focus button (to slow it down)?
It's gonna take some time to figure it out since there's a lot of possibilities on how it could work ๐ค
I'm currently working on a proper map editor so I can try out different control schemes faster. (Since different mapping styles are ideal for each possible control scheme)
That's some high praise, I truly appreciate it ๐
Very unique rhythm game, loved it! Give me controller support so I can spin the analogue sticks and I'd be invested, I could easily see this as a much fuller game. My only minor comment would be that a bit more feedback on the note hits/misses would've been nice, but this is an excellent showing, really well done.
Metagame cog 110/126
Well done on that FC for the metagame cog! โ๏ธ
Controller is one is one of the input methods I'm trying out once I'm done with making a proper level editor!
You're right. 2 analog sticks, 2 records. Seems like a good match ๐
Would you be so nice as to elaborate on what sort of feedback you were missing?
Did you have trouble understanding when you hit/missed or do you just wish the game feel was more "juicy" ?
I'm open to try out suggestions! ๐
I don't have a single bad thing to say about this game, this was amazing
Wow! Thanks a lot ๐
I'm seriously considering to continue it post jam ๐
My scores were bad. The game was not!
This would be great using a haptic system like the Steam Deck or Steam Controller.
Thanks a lot!
Haptic system is a great idea. Could be fun to make it directional since there's 2 records ๐ค
I appreciate the feedback ๐
Amazing! Never seen this kind of rhythm game before. I got really bad scores so I don't really wanna post them lol. All of them were C. MY favorite song is "spin that disc mr. dj". It was challenging but im sure everyone can get used to it after playing it enough. After more polish and a larger repertoire this can be a really cool full release game. I hope you continue to develop it after the jam. Great job!
Thanks for the comment!
That last song was something I really wanted to add and spent the last day of the jam on recording and making the map for it. Seems like it was worth it ๐
It's my first game I'm actually considering to put "into production" and make an actual product. I didn't expect so much positive feedback...
Will have to do a bunch of testing before that though.
Thanks again for playing and your kind words ๐
This is awesome! I love seeing rhythm games for this theme. The spinners were really cool!!
Thanks for checking it out ๐
I love this idea so much, the mechanic is so cool. And there's 3 songs, that's so good. But it's really difficult at least for me, and that's also a good thing, challenging to master ! Great job!
You're right about the difficulty, I should have made most of the maps a fair bit easier especially considering there's no tutorial that would help you on how to effectively control the record.
Thanks for the compliments! I'm starting to feel like I really should keep development going post jam! ๐
Cool music, I really loved the UI and the transitions. It was a bit challenging, but fun to play. Great job!
Thanks for playing!
It's nice to see people like the UI so much despite it being so minimal and not too difficult to make ๐
Really good work! There's a lot in here for a jam game, 3 songs and 4 levels is pretty impressive, and the design of each of them is really intuitive, you did a really superb job at placing the notes and playing with that system. Don't think I didn't notice each color's note being a different symbol than the others, that's some good design. I would have been overjoyed to see the records also having symbols on them just like the notes to indicate which side correlates to each note for accessibility to certain kinds of colorblindness. The game felt really polished, especially the menu's.
I had some performance issues while playing, with some lag spikes every now and then that kept pulling me out of immersion. When I completed the third song, the results screen also never showed up leaving me stuck and having to restart or leave wiping my progress. All in all very good game.
It was a joy reading this comment!
I'm glad you noticed the different note shapes๐
I did think of several other ways to make it accessible to colorblind people (Preset or manual color select for different kinds of colorblindness)
"Symbols on the disc" was actually on my to-do list but I barely got the current visuals done for the record on the last day.
I did a lot of testing for the beatmaps so it's nice to hear you enjoyed them! Only problem is they're maybe a tad bit too hard for a jam game.
I'm sad to hear about the lag. But thanks for telling me! No one else reported it yet.
I assume you played the web version.
I did add particle effects for each note hit I wonder if that might have been the cause๐ค
Would you be so kind as to list your OS, Browser, Rough specs (laptop, desktop, how new?)
so I could look into the performance issues. Rhythm games on the browser can be real finicky sometimes.
Thanks a lot for genuinely appreciating and engaging with what I created despite the performance issues!
I went back to the game on the google chrome browser out of curiosity and that seems to have removed all performance issues; a lot of game's aren't playing nicely on firefox browsers, even my own has an issue or two for them, and that's my main browser I tested on! I'll give you my relevant specs regardless...
I'm on windows 10x64 desktop using a firefox based browser known as "Librewolf", my computer has decent specs but is a little on the older side apart from my gpu and cpu which were replaced more recently; I think almost exactly year ago. It is air cooled.
16 GB of ram
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
Kratos M1 550B Power Supply 80 Plus Bronze Certified
465 local storage, 4TB external storage
Yeah that's solid specs I'm pretty sure it's firefox then. Will have to see if I can replicate the issues myself. I did try some builds using Firefox (and it was fine) but I added a lot of stuff after that.
Thanks a lot for helping me to figure this out!
This is a really cool idea! I don't think I've ever seen a game with this kind of mechanic, especially considering you have two simultaneous note tables happening at once (which I think fits the DJ theme perfectly). However, it was a little hard to control the pickups with the mouse, and, as others have already pointed out, I think having different keys control each pickup could make for an even cooler experience (maybe WASD for one and the arrow keys for the other, idk). That said, the visuals are cool, the music is cool, and the whole game idea is very interesting. With a little more work put into it (which I know probably wasn't possible during a game jam), I can definitely see this becoming a really solid game!
Thanks for the in depth comment!
Yeah I worked on it with minimal breaks for the whole jam time. Spending more definitely wasn't an option haha.
There's been lots of ideas for switching up the control scheme I'll definitely experiment on what ends up being the best!
I hope you got the metagame gear!
Great game. Really fun and right on the spot with the theme. Nice visuals and the soundtrack was amazing. Really nice job!
Wow seems like you liked everything in the game๐ฎ
Thank you for kind the comment!
I love the different soundtracks! The way the theme was used into the game was super cool and I had a lot of fun playing :D
Thanks for the positive comment! Soundtrack was all made by me during jam time!
Glad you had fun with it ๐
A fun game indeed. I liked the theme
Thanks a lot for the comment Enigma!
Anytime ๐โโ๏ธ
I really like the used soundtracks. They are very cool. Also like how it changes between the diffrent Menus.
The Mechanic is simple and easy to understand.
I'm a bit unsure if it would have been better, if you could turn the two Discs at the same time (e. g. with Keyborard Controls). I think this would give a lot more Opportunities for Level Design.
Thanks, I made all the music myself!
That keyboard control is a common suggestion and I'll be looking into it!
It's not exactly obvious that it's better since having to manage 2 discs with 1 mouse can also make things interesting!
But worth trying out for sure.
I don't think I'll get rid of the mouse completely since the mouse has such great control to do fast and precise movements. (And that would be a lot more like other rhythm games I think)
Thanks again for commenting and playing ๐
Wow that a good idea, kinda hard but i loved it !
And the ui, transition between scene, i love it
i need to know how did you do that haha
Good job !
Love to hear you enjoyed it!
The menu transitions use this shader:
https://godotshaders.com/shader/universal-transition-shader/
I basically had a static background and had the Control nodes of the menu(Buttons, labels, etc.) be transitioned in and out with that shader.
So the old menu fades out at the same time as the new one comes in on top of it.
(each submenu has it's parent control and the children inherit the shader material)
I'm not that confident in visual stuff so nice that you found it cool ๐
Pretty hard! And also very fun, loved the concept!
Thanks for playing!
It's indeed quite difficult. I wish I had time to make more of the easier beatmaps.
Glad you enjoyed the concept ๐
Fun game! The part when you have to keep spinning the record is especially satisfying. If you get the chance to keep working on the game, it could be cool if one of the records was controlled via mouse and the other was controlled with arrow keys, so you'd be able to spin both at once (for an extra challenge). Really well done!
Thanks for playing!
That's a great suggestion and I did actually think of doing something like that. Just too much complexity for the game jam time limit. (I wanted simple controls for the jam.) I think that could be really fun once the player already has a good hang of things with just the mouse.
Jezzz the menu transitions..... so eye watering.
I saw DJ and just went straight for the hardest difficulty and guess what... I got an " F ", probably cause i was way too FREAKISHLY fast... i just can't help it ( Smirk ).
Noice!
I like how it how this concept is so simple yet can be so addictive. i can imagine playing this on my android phone.
Nice game!
Yeah the transition shader does make a big difference!
I hate to inform you that the first song has an even harder difficulty map haha.
You read my mind on the phone part. I'm curious how a portrait mode version with just 1 disc would feel like.
Thanks for playing, commenting and sharing your experience! ๐
