Finally found a tower defense game!
Nice concept, and nice job on it. I did find it hard to modify my towers at times. If you continue to tinker with it, it would be nice if the menu on the right showed you what was available for the fighter on the board instead of having to click them from the top, especially if you can't afford to add a different type of tower. I could click the upgrade button from the character on the field, but I couldn't easily change their weapons unless I could afford to click on one of the new towers to buy (meaning I couldn't even see what I could equip for, say, the mage if all I could afford was the knight - I only saw the knight weapons).
It would also be nice to add some sound effects during combat, though you may have run into issues like my game has where a lot of things happening at once can make it really loud (or you may have had other reasons not to add those sounds, of course). I learned a few ways to handle multiple sounds at once after I posted my game, like running a code to check for X actions happening within the same Y moments and basically telling it to only play so many of those sounds so they don't overlap. A few people gave me advice on it, so if that happens to be something you were trying to figure out, I definitely recommend checking out the dev channels in the discord and posting about it.
Anyway, really nice entry, and I was in the mood for a tower defense today, so it was great to play it!
Thanks for such a thoughtful comment! I agree with all of your feedback and I would try to improve on all of these aspects if I got back to the project.
I love your idea for the audio issue solution! I had avoided the sound effects for time as well as for the fear that it would get too chaotic with so many spinning weapons but your suggestion makes a lot of sense!
I love tower defense games as well so I'm glad you were able to enjoy it!
I don't usually play tower defense games but this was fun! Easy to understand and play. Good job!
Quite enjoyable, although a bit too easy to beat without losing any lives. The weapon UI is a bit clunky. Sound effects would be nice, and would be cool if upgrading units changed something visually (at least have a "Lv 2" text or up arrow or something near the unit).
A simple but relatively polished game with a cool variety of weapons and status effects. Could've used some properly telegraphed enemies with different effects, and of course sound effects to really juice things up, but what's here is cool! I liked watching a million swords spinning across the screen, fun game!
Amazing game, really cool concept and i enjoyed till the end! Missing some sfx but in this kind of games it's really difficult to balance all the audio, probably the right choice to not add sfx to characters and enemies right now. Great job!
I was wondering how spinning would be combined with a tower defense game, but it was really well-implemented in this game! The music was also really awesome!
Amazing game, really cool looking. Could use some sound effects.
very nice i love it the music is amazing , good job !
The game is so enjoyable i loved it but the game gets hard really fast
also i would love some sfx
PEAK GAME ART IS 10/10
really nice game, love the art a lot
Great Game! I finished and enjoyed it very much. As others said I would say audio feedback would be good. One thing I would change is the way weapons are given each level, not giving the player a choice or giving class specific weapons seems scriptive of how the player should play and which class to choose/upgrade in order to win. Also I didn't understand that archers have armor break until I used them against the bears because I would keep losing to them with two lvl 3 mages and one/two knight(s). Also omg, so many enemies, animations and weapons and effects! That is truly a well made game for me!
Very cool way to implement a spin mechanic to a tower defense!
Nice game! I love the art and the UI and the music is nice too!
The idea is very cool and it is well executed.
Really good idea, could be expanded even further with more units! I don't know how to feel about the equipment system, and there's a lack of sound effects. I also would have liked to see the enemy's health as a number as well, at least as an option.
The spinning weapons are cool and fit the theme well- Art is awesome but the game could really benefit with some sound effects
yeah I was worried that on hit sounds and on death sounds would get very chaotic later on. Definitely felt like I didn't have enough time to tune it properly. But thanks for playing the game and enjoying it!
I really enjoyed this game, I have no issues with it!
Thanks so much!
Finished it! It's a clever idea and it looks like you put a lot of work into it. This would benefit sooo much from some audio feedback. Equipping things was a little awkward, and I wish the UI didn't block my view of the monsters. This has potential though!
yeah the audio feedback would make the weapons and killing enemies much more satisfying but I felt it might get very chaotic when you get a lot of units. It was a challenge that I felt could be done well but I didn't feel I had enough time to dedicate to it.
On the other hand, it is quite awkward to equip things, I think I can fix that quickly by letting the weapon stat panel stay active when clicking a unit. My dream functionality would be drag and drop though haha.
Do you think that having a transparent UI would solve the issue or is it more the placement of the UI?
Thanks for the review!
I think it's placement. And you have so much space on the right side of the screen that's essentially unused.
There's a video by Aarimous called How I do Sound Effects in Godot that you should look into that would address your concerns with the chaos. Basically the sounds are managed so that if there's already so many sounds playing, it won't add more and blowout the audio.
are you saying that you would make the inventory smaller and place the upgrade and stats panels in the freed up space or would you put it on the left side? where the wave panel is.
I'll definitely take a look at the sound effects video!
I'd say keep things consolidated on the right. I was emptying the inventory as fast as it was filling up anyways, so it definitely doesn't need to be so large.
