great idea. i didn't have the nerves to look for the 3rd password after the minigames tho :D
This seems like a fantastic game, but for some reason no matter what I typed out on the password for stuff based on the birthday just really didn't work, which was kind of lame and means I didn't experience almost any of the actual game.
/spoiler warning for those just reading the comments!!!/
sorry, not sure if it was a bug but the correct password for stuff is supposed to be "08091994" which you get by substracting the age from the year of the chatlog. it could also be because i forgot to change "photos" to "stuff" in the password hints file which would also be my fault. if that still doesn't work than i don't know.
Oh sorry, then I'm just not very good at puzzlers, I tried the original date
no worries, and if you have time please try to complete the full game!
I loved that experience, I was absored by the story, the password puzzle are so well designed, it took me a while to figure these out and yet it is so obvious when you understand the solution. The atmosphere is great and the game felt very polished, great job !
I wish there were more to this story, the characters writing is veryyy good !
That was so amazing! the vibes were on point, I got a lil bit of emotional damage here..I miss my friend now even though I have not met him q.q
You made a game based off that “The Boys Are Back In Town” horror video??? I knew I recognized that wallpaper! Top tier atmosphere man. I picked it up from the music playlist text file. Always thought it’d be cool to have a game with that vibe. Alright, glazing aside. The actual gameplay is very clever. Using the fact Lucy and Parker are siblings for the last name was simple, but really cool to realize. The minigames are also very fun, dodging the icons was awesome. I also appreciate that the spinning is just done from a click, is fun to click fast. Towards the end the mouse reversal was rough though.
yooooo someone got the reference!!!!? funnily enough, originally during early stages of development there was actually supposed to be a second clippy style anomaly like the lil gourdguy, with them representing 2 different unhealthy ways to cope with grief but he was eventually cut cause i realized it was a lot more compelling if it was parker himself vs the anomaly rather than 2 different ones trying to string him along (and also cause time restraints were eating me alive)
anyways ty for playing, and im glad you enjoyed!
An interesting concept! The minigame in the loading screen was a lot of fun!
Best game in the Jam I played so far, love these old chat narrative games. Still don't really know what the message was apart from things being less complicated than expected sometimes, but the vibes were great
Wow. That was. That was really good. You did an amazing job this is definitely my favorite game in the jam so far. Everything about this game was so good I am in awe
This was a really interesting game. The art looked great, and the puzzles were fun. Great job!
I loved this one! I've not played anything like this before. It was a nice mix of chill and chaotic gameplay. The mirrored part was evil lmao
I love how cohesive this game felt, really well done on the visuals. Not sure the spinning really counts as spinning here because if the button had any other icon, the game would still be the same, but with no spinning. Regardless, I had fun and it's a great game <3
ty for playing and im glad you enjoyed! also you're one of like the only people to actually criticize my use of the spin theme and actually play through the whole game, not give up after the first password so i appreciate it lol
mentioned this somewhere else but funnily enough, the bullet hell spin the refresh thing was actually one of the first things i came up with during development, though it ended up taking a backseat cause i got so absorbed in the lore- so sorry if it didn't seem fully fleshed out, i was kinda banking on that one off line in the theme announcement video where juniper said "it can be a spinning object" or smth, and also the slow loading bar joke (most people figured out they could press the refresh button before the popup came tho)
still, ty for the feedback!
Downvoted for making me use MMDDYYYY format.
Jokes aside, really cool game, liked it a lot, had some trouble closing some folders and closing things below it but that was something really minor, liked it a lot, thanks for the game!
Good game I liked the mouse gameplay a lot, but I suck at work-based puzzles so that took me way longer than it should have to figure out the full name plus favorite music artist password, but I did it so yay. Anyway, good game I had fun even though it's not usually a game I would play.
wow what an incredible vibe you were able to create! this is one of one of my favorite genres and styles of games. it reminds me of pony island. anyways, i really enjoyed this!
Really cool game. I cant give any praises that hasn't been said. The music, the feel on the computer, the puzzle...
However, I do have a few critiques (mostly neat picking, so don't listen to me):
-There is a bug (i assume) where you can close tabs even when the x is hidden. So that is a bit bothering
-If there was a metaphor or smth about the file being empty, i did not get it. I feel like that is on me tho
-I feel the theme a bit vague, since you are basically pushing a button, not so much spinning it. But I am usually harsh on the theme application. (Not that mine is good or anything)
-This is 100% personal opinion, but I don't like being presented with a "dilema" (in this case, given the chance to enter the computer but this computer/haker/IDK telling me to please not enter, that it is his sanctuary and we are intruding) and not being able to decide what to do.
Overall, solid 9/10
*spoilers warning for anyone scrolling in the comments!!!!!*
ty for the feedback, that was super helpful! i'll try to go over everything but sorry if my explanations are bad.
-Yeah a lot of the playtesters mentioned the bug but i could not for the life of me figure out how to fix it, so in it stays. sorry lol
-I wasn't exactly trying to go for a metaphor with the ending, as throughout the entire game it's built up like "oh you're friends gone missing" "oh this weird computer thing is trying to prevent you from proceeding" "im sure if i keep digging deeper i can find the answer" when in reality ambigous loss almost never has clear solution that makes the grief go away. the reveal that the folder is empty is supposed to shock the player as much as the virus thing because the virus assumes it's protecting august's last secret while the player assumes they're helping parker find closure.
-funnily enough the bullet hell spin to win sections were the first thing i thought up when starting development, though i ended up getting so invested in the story that i ended up taking the sideline lol. yeah the theme was a little unclear though it was supposed to be explained with the first loading window where if you wait long enough the message (Taking too long? Try spinning the refresh button!) pops up though most players figured it out before it even did. so the bullet hell sections, you are spinning the refresh button (the velocity of the spin increases every time you click it though its pretty subtle so i get not noticing it)
-this doesn't really solve the dillema thing but i mentioned how the virus is trying to protect august while you're trying to help parker or whatever, in the school paper (im not sure if you read it, it was kinda a massive wall of text) was the main world builder of the story. i won't lie it was mainly just cause i love the concept of worlds where paranormal entities just seem mundane to the average pedestrian, but also cause i thought the metaphorical anomolies were a really neat metaphor (the main one you encounter being sort of a mix of nostalgia and grief) i'd say neither option is correct persay, with both sides representing unhealthy coping mechanisms. one being to stay anchored in the past clinging desperately to what remains, the other being searching desperately for an answer that doesn't exist, when all it does is harm you.
anyways sorry i got a bit rambly im not too good at putting my thoughts into words but still, thank you for playing and im glad you enjoyed!
This game is soo good! The switching between puzzles and bullet hell is a ton of fun and the little clicks and sounds make the game super satisfying to play. I played this before rating started and its cool to see you listened to my feedback about the password format! Great job dude PERFECT SCORE!
This was... awesome. Though I hate you for making me turn my mouse upside down and play through that one puzzle, lol. Love that you saved progress each step of the way though. Honestly the highest scores I've given out for a game yet.
This might be one of my favourites. The pacing is great, and the difficult curve feels just right. I thought the game was to easy at first, but things picked up very quickly. The aesthetics are great, the music is perfect, and the writing is very compelling. Funnily, I guessed the band part of one of the passwords right away because it’s also my favourite band (though I still went through the process of figuring out why it was correct). Great job.
Cool idea
THIS GAVE ME CHILLS, WHY DO YOU LEAVE ME WITH THE INTRIGUE, WHYYY. This game has so much impact what??? omg
The storytelling holy crap dude, how did you do thisss,how can you do this to me ;--;
I got so engaged with the story, what happened to my boy??? D:
absolute cinema, genuinely
ALSO,I love the "minigames" I don't knowhow to call 'em. It really reminds me of omega flowey's battle in undertale.
OML this was SO GOOD , i nearly cried with this, and the dialogue feels so real, i can't express in words how good your game is
