Really high production values given the timespan.  I do wish that there were a way to skip some of the announcer stuff on my second play through, though.  And I'm not sure exactly what I need to do to spin as many times as some of the CPU players.  The animations and visuals were a super good fit for the tone of the game, I had a lot of fun with it

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! I've actually got a new build of the game ready that includes cutscene skipping and CPU balancing with the spins which I plan to upload when the voting is done. Before submitting Backyard Bash to the jam, I was usually able to beat the CPU spin count during testing, but perhaps it's because I've had so much practice with games like Mario Party in the past. The new update should fix some of these issues should anyone want to try and improve their overall ticket count. Thanks for playing!

Great little game! Reminded me of Nippon Marathon, but with some spin action.

This is a crazy amount of work you did in one week well done! Loved the theme, idk which character I was but think I got 7k tickets

Wow, voice acting and cinematics are very good. I’m a bit meh on the visuals but it fits the concept the game is going for. Gameplay is pretty good too, although a dash/jump and camera control would be nice. I think competing in the backyard bash is VERY SERIOUS. Great Work!

Really fun and unique take on the theme and a super serious entry. Love the voice acting and art style

Great voice over and cute low poly aesthetics. The inverted controls can be frustrating but I guess that's the game. I wish we can skip some of the cutscenes after the first run though so I can keep trying the obstacle course. Cool game!

With the first words of the announcer it dragged me deep into the game. I really enjoyed it! I loved the oldschool style! The first game wher I could give max points to everything, that say it all.
What I didn't like: hitting enter instead of E or SPACE; the controls during the race (if it is only switched, why sometimes my character went to left when I pushed right, then turned right in some random moments?); and that it is impossible to spin that much with a mouse than the first guy does, so impossible to win the race. I tried it several times... no way...

Developer(+1)

thanks for the feedback! I added random directional changes to further emphasize the dizzy feature. The more you spin the dizzier you get and the dizzier you are, the more often you get thrown into a different direction occasionally. So its a trade off for when you finally finish the race and get lots of points for the dizzy multiplier. But I can understand that feature might not work for everyone - I could always just take that feature out in a future update. It is definitely possible to spin faster than the CPU's and beat the race! I made sure of it before I submitted the game! I appreciate the words though, thanks for playing my game!

Honestly I'm stunned you managed to do all of that in a week! the art, the music, the animation, the voice acting... It's all incredibly cohesive and polished. The only problem I head is that they wanted me to spin the mouse in the exact opposite direction of what I was comfortable with but other than that? Absolutely impressive, 10/10

Developer

Thanks so much for the kind words! I didn't realize so much could be done in a week until I entered a game jam haha. Perhaps if I continue development I could add an option to reverse spin direction for those that prefer going the other way. Thanks for playing!

How you managed to get 3D animation, bot movement, cutscenes(!), voice over, and a fun gameplay loop together in a week is beyond me. Extremely impressive. Well done.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words. I basically worked 24/7 on this for the week. I was in the zone lol

HOLY SHIT!! this was like playing a fully developed game on wii -- so incredible, so nostalgic. the bots completely destroyed me but i enjoyed every second! also the music is fantastic. please make a full game in this style.

Submitted(+1)

What a creative and unique idea. I had a blast playing this game. It felt so polished, and really good quality for such a short time.
The bots are insane at the spinning, lol!

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Yeah during the development I had to up the spin speed of the CPU's because I was consistently destroying them. This is probably because I knew everything about the game though lol. Each CPU actually has a spin level and their spin speed is determined by that number (with some variations in speed to keep things interesting)

I was taken aback by the level of polish and content. You managed to do a lot in just a week! I was not expecting cutscenes. And the game was so fun. Well done!

WOAH, there's RANKINGS!? so cool and I gotta win me that triceratops!! thanks so much for hanging with us and enjoy the rest of the jam!!!

Submitted(+1)

Never expected this quality, everything feels so polished because of the introduction, voice acting, and the little cinematics. This was a great experience!

Holy moly this game has so much swag. Epic!

The game had a great pace, and the gameplay itself was fun! The night sky was beautiful. I have nothing but respect for your entire team!

Submitted(+1)

I liked the gameplay, though I would've liked it to last longer, I felt like I spent more time watching cinematics than playing the actual game which was pretty fun.

Good job on the voice acting btw, it's well done!

Submitted(+1)

Holy smokes, that was incredible! So well put together, in every way! I love the entire concept, I ended up in 3rd place, but that was so enjoyable. My favorite bit is the stargazing. It didn’t have to be in the game, but it makes the game extra special.

Congrats on such a great game, well done!

yoo, pretty clean cinematics, and the voice was pretty matching with the concept and for finish, all of that is pretty pretty SERIOUS,  congratulation bruh, that's a goood job, do you my game is it too? ( need some rates :)

Submitted(+1)

I really liked it, gave me Costume Quest vibes.

It is really well put together, from the voice acting and the music to the animation and atmosphere.

The detail of adding the stargazing was the cherry on top.

How did you go about creating the music? It sounds really good

Developer(+1)

I appreciate the kind words! I made all the music myself using abelton with a MIDI keyboard (except some drum stuff was live). I do everything by ear so I just kinda work through each layer until I've got the vibe that I want.
