This honestly was really neat. You're right we did similar takes on the theme but slightly different. We both also had a "not affiliated" symbol/symbolism. It took me a second to figure out how to actually turn the wheel. The visuals and audio were really nice! Good job!
Really thanks for comment!
I was very lost when I started the game, I feel like a quick tutorial or explanation within the game may help with this issue. I did see that there were rules on the web page, so I tried again after a proper read and it made more sense!
I was making a tutorial, but couldn't manage in time, glad you understand sth after reading rules on the page
I started by going to fullscreen due to the small size. Clicking on Settings did not work. Then I pressed continue and that did load into the game, even though I had not played before. I restarted and then Settings worked while not in fullscreen. After exiting Settings, I clicked on it again and it was not working.
In game I similarly had issues clicking on things. I could rotate the wheel, but not click on any newspapers. I clicked around, but was not sure what you meant by clicking the arrow on the right up twice. The right side arrow is down, so how do you press it up? I rotated the wheel multiple times in both directions, and clicked on both arrows. Finally I clicked next and was able to proceed with playing and clicking on things.
The 2 big arrows stood out and made me want to click on them, not the wheel. I think the UI could be improved here to make it more clear how to turn the tool wheel.
The buzzer sound when selecting a paper sounds like you made a mistake.
I played through twice. The first time I experimented a few times with the tools, but largely selected the basic articles as my main one. The second time I only did the unedited articles, picking a different one as main each time when repeats showed up. Both times I got Game Over, "be more accurate with yout articles". "your" in misspelled in this text as "yout". I'm not in favor of spinning the news, so was not as inclined to mess around as much with altering things. I gained trust & money, but wasn't sure how much was a good amount. I think it needs a bit more guidance on what is expected to get a different result. Spinning the news does work well for the jam theme.
I'm really sorry you met so much problems while playing, I had problems with clicking on menu buttons and newspapers, the buzzer sound is for mistaked, but appears if you changed the news last time even though I delete previous data, the UI could really be improved as I think it's a bit messy
I couldn't manage the tutorial in time as well as fix all the bugs as I don't understand why they occur
I'll try to polish and fix eth, thanks you for detailed comment!
Cool idea. I love these news spinning games because its a fun touch on the genre
Glad you liked it
It took a while to figure out the game play, but it was good. Clicking on main menu buttons is a little buggy. I think there are similar clicking bugs like that within the game. I clicked on the cloud icon, after clicking on it multiple times in a row the game went back to the main menu.... lol. It would be good to have a small tutorial. Good game.
Bugs are really the issue in this project to be honest, I was making a tutorial, but couldn't manage in time, thanks for the feedback!
Love the art and style. I could totally see a full game like Papers, Please with this mechanic. I also like the way you implemented the game jam theme.
Unfortunately, I don’t know if it was because I didn’t understand the game correctly or because of a glitch, but I didn’t quite see the effect of the different spin options. I was expecting to see how the news changes or have some visual way to see the effect of each choice, but I only saw the money go down.
I think, as some people have already said, it would be very nice to have a little more time to debug and add a tutorial or some extra help. I would love to come back and try it again if there’s an update in the future.
Glad that you liked some aspects of the game, I'll try to fix bugs and make this game better
I didn't quite understand what you meant by no effect, news should change as well as parameters, could you please tell about it more specifically?
Nice visuals and sound.
I had trouble picking up exactly what I was meant to do, but that was mainly made worse because it took me a while to realize I needed to double click the menu to actually interact with the articles.
I like the concept, spinning news stories is funny in a way and what these get turned into with some spin is a neat premise.
Yeah, there were way more bugs than in any of my previous projects, but I'm glad you liked the idea
Very unique and creative, I loved it. And the visuals are really cool as well, great work!
Thanks you!
I loved the visuals, though admittedly I had some trouble understanding the mechanics, I feel like a tutorial or tooltips are necessary, but I understand if you ran out of time. Tutorials are often the first thing I cut. I was really interested how you took the idea of spinning the news in a different direction from me.
sorry for inconvinience with understanding the mechanics, couldn't manage the tutorial in time, I'll try out your game to see how you took the idea of spin doctoring
I really liked the visuals!
Thank you!
Oh I love the mechanics! Reminds me of one of my old game jam submissions, it's in my profile. I love this type of games! Sadly, is too bugged to be enjoyable, but nothing that some work can't fix. I like the audio and visuals tho I need a slider for that audio.
Sad that bugs made the gameplay unenjoyable, but still you loved the mechanics, thanks you! I'll try to soty out bugs
The audio and balancing really needs some work, a volume slider, etc. Very loud and difficult to listen to choice of sound effects.
Overall the game seems rather buggy, which is a shame because I think the concept is a pretty unique take on the jam theme. Either upon loading the page, or going into settings and backing out, I was able to start the game on day 7. Opening and closing the menu so that I could select newspapers led to me being backed out of the game.
Clicking and dragging to spin the wheel feels clunky and seems unnecessary. Tooltips for the tools in-game would be helpful to have.
I’m interested in the eye at the top of the screen, though I’m not sure what it’s for. I think this game would do better with a more cohesive tone and/or art style.
If you happen to iterate on it and polish it up beyond the game jam I’d be curious to give it another look.
I'll try to implement the featurs you mentioned and fix bugs. Wheel shouldn't be dragged, kust click on the sides, eye is a sign of superior's anger. I'll try to polish it and publish normally to makr it a game it deservess, thanks you for feedback!
I think this is a great use of the theme, and it reminds me of jam games ive made in the past (:
i do wish there was more visual feedback and information for the player to glean, and I bet a dose of lore could build this up Papers Please styled
Glad you liked how theme was represented, I agree that I should've done more visual effects and some lore, most probably I'll do it in the full game if I can, thank you!
The idea seemed interesting and I enjoyed it a lot! I might have missed it but a tutorial would be nice cuz it took me a while to figure out what to do. Great game!
Also maybe check out my submission :)
I was making a tutorial, it was 95% ready, but I didn't make it in time, glad you liked the game even with some problems)
Interesting how your game and mine comes from similar ideas! One of my early concepts was similar to this, before I switched to switching words instead of the whole headline.
I like the phrasings, and the ideas of flipping vs. softening vs. removing altogether. The moving eye at the top was a cool addition.
I am happy you liked it, still surprised by similarity of out ideas :)
It’s a creative concept, with thought provoking gameplay! There’s a couple bugs to sort out, but that’s just how game jams go sometimes!
The main thing you liked it, I'll try to sort out all the bugs asap, but not sure how much it'll take, thanks for the feedback!
Fun idea, a reminiscent of 1984 and Papers, Please. I had the same bugs as other people in the comments which is too bad, it has potential to be a full fledged game if a storyline was introduced about the who what why and depending on how you shape the news, the world around you would react differently. Very good idea, enjoyed it
I had some similar plans, but gamejam is gamejam. Bugs are sth that made angry all over the gamemaking process, I am glad that you liked the concept and enjoyed it, I'll try me best to polish it!
honestly there's something to make a whole game out of it, if you ever feel like it, it's definitely not a dead end!
I am so sad because I love your spin on the idea and it is so creative and i'd love to enjoy you game but I can't seem to understand how to play :'(. My money keeps dissapearing while nothing happens and I don't know whats going on :O.
On another note the artistic direction is also really interesting so I hope you will keep making other game because you got someinteresting ideas there ^^
I'm really sad that you couldn;t enjoy the way I intented, to be honest I feel that the game deserves better polish and maybe remake to sort out all the bugs and problems, tutorial was 95% ready, I couldn't manage in time sadly( Glad you liked the concept
I had a lot of fun with the main mechanic, but it is a bit buggy at times which hampered my experience (still a load of fun mind)!
Aside from that, the changes in newspapers and the little references were cute. My favourite part is definitely the take on the mechanic.
Glad you liked it despite all the bugs and misunderstanding, I tried making a tutorial but couldn't manage in time, the bugs are another major issue that I hate, this project turned out to be veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery buggy, thanks for the feedback!
Nah! This is a good game mate! I just point out the bugs and points of feedback when I leave comments to actually try and help. Rather than going "wow great game" which helps no one.
yeah, and it's great, I'll try to fix them, tutorial was 95% ready, so I'll focus on bugs most probably, thanks again, feedback is important!
Let me know when you update it! I would love to play it again if it does get the update it deserves <3
ok, I'll try my best!
A really interesting concept that makes good use of the theme, although I think the game really needs a tutorial.
Thanks, I really tried making one, but I didn't get in time (I needed just 15 more minutes)
