Like many others here are saying, the fact that a lot of this came from an LLM rather than from you kind of sours the experience somewhat.  There's a sterility/soullessness to AI-generated things that unfortunately comes through here.  I personally would have strongly preferred seeing something dramatically less polished, but all you.  But I do really appreciate you being honest and upfront about AI usage in your description.

Back to the game itself, one thing I like about this is that, while I'm old and have no idea what a Beyblade is beyond the basic idea that it's a spinning top of some kind, I was able to pick up on the gameplay loop pretty easily.  So it's nice how intuitive the gameplay is.  It was also fun to knock the other tops out of the arena.  The initial choice about which stats to prioritize is also a nice little bit of player agency, and I could feel the difference when trying the different kinds.  The things I got from the wheel in between rounds, though, didn't noticeably affect gameplay, so maybe they could be more specialized/individualized, or maybe it's worth paring things down just to the core gameplay without the roguelite elements.

Either way, I can see the vision here, and hopefully we'll see more projects from you in future jams!

Thanks for this excellent feedback. I definitely recognize your point about the sterility and soullessness of the AI. It does give off that "slop" energy. I definitely see how trying to "polish" with AI can actually do the opposite at times. I'm committed to learning more about programming and art design so I can depend on the tech less and showcase my own art and skill. Thank you!

I commend you for getting a game with this much complexity out within a week, but I would say that the complexity in some ways doesn't work in your favor. The tutorial seems a bit overwhelming with many random keys, and once you're in the game the UI is a bit cluttered. I personally am not against using AI to code (as a software engineer I use it regularly in my day to day workflow), but in this case it may have lead to unnecessary bloat.

The core idea is good and executed decently well - hitting and knocking out other tops. I think there are many excess ideas that could be stripped back in order to keep the spotlight on what's fun, which is spinning fast and hitting other tops. Things like the roguelike spinner adding extra stats could be reworked or more integrated. Also, the UI was not responsive to different screen sizes, which is something the AI should be able to help you do and goes a long way toward making the game feel good!

My recommendation would be to keep the AI usage to writing code if you're going to use it, but avoid for music or any other assets, and focus your efforts on design so you can guide the AI to better outcomes. Good work and thanks for sharing!

This is excellent feedback! Thank you! I agree with you wholeheartedly and have seen the random keys (A/D to spin) and a bunch of others...the UI is definitely overwhelming and wasn't working well for me on mobile.  Great points on the AI usage. I'm committed to learning more about the fundamentals (taking CS50) and other purchased courses frome gamedev.tv and independent creators so I can support the scene and develop my own skills and overall workflow.

The game looks really cool!

I give you some points for the honesty of your use of AI, but I certainly do not agree with it. Ignoring the AI use, the best thing it has going for it is the concept, everyone loves beyblades. The visuals aren't terrible, and the audio suffices, but the art isn't polished enough to call them finished. Especially considering all of that time saved by using AI. There are no shortcuts to producing meaningful art.

Developer

thank you for this feedback. I would agree with you in the regard that the use of AI for art is a major crutch for me and not at all what a finished, publishable piece should look like. I strive to support independent developers and artists where possible and intend to always credit where necessary.

I think moving forward, I would benefit from spending a lot more time learning more of the concrete steps in the art and coding process as well so as to not cut corners and really create a more meaningful product

game lags and freezes a lot, also, although it didn't do everything, AI was still used to code the game and I think that's disrespectful to game development as an art and to the countless developers that had to spend years honing their craft. If you have any respect for games and game development, stop using AI to code, I know it can be hard but you can learn to do it on your own, also change your pfp since I'm like 99% sure it's also AI. AI aside, I'd give the game like a 5/10, the screen is always freezing whenever anything happens and it makes it confusing on what is happening.

I apologize if my previous comment sounded rude. I do agree with you that ai usage is more limiting than it is useful, however, for my specific situation, I found its usage helpful considering I’ve been balancing several other projects in addition with my personal work. I understand this is a pretty poor excuse and not the best showcase of skill, and I do agree that learning and honing each craft is critical and important, as well as respecting the legacy of those who have been doing this since long before AI. Even so, I want to keep this post up anyway and am open to being DQed so long as I’m able to at least start my personal game dev journey somewhere.

Good game, but sadly, I don't support Vibe Coding. 😔

Developer(+1)

Understandable! I am new to game development and did rely on a ton of AI to assist me with the coding. I understand if this were to disqualify me from the jam itself - my goal was to COMPLETE a project (as I have  many sitting half-baked). My goal as a developer is to decrease my dependence on AI and provide better games!

While it took me a bit to figure out what exactly to do, after I learnt the controls it was a pretty good time! Music was just slightly repetitive.

Thank you for the feedback! This is very helpful since I do want to continue iterating! Cleaner UX and HUD as well as music variation noted! I did try to go for OVER THE TOP anime battle sound :)

Looks good, feels good, and really nice to play! Let's me live my beyblade fantasies lmao.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Beyblade is one hundred percent the vibe!
