Great game, I loved the visuals, I just wished it didn't end so quickly

Developer

Hi ! Thank you for playing our game ! We'll work on an update soon™, we'll see what we can do about that :) maybe add more milestones or lower the speed of the windmills, we could even add an endless mode, there's a lot of possibilities :)

Thank you for your kind words :) have a good day !

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

Very cute game, lovely UI and fun concept. The art's super cute! I loved the sound effects a lot too :) delightful!

Developer

Thank you very much :)

Gotta save the world !

Submitted(+2)

What a fantastic game, super easy to understand and fits the theme so well in such a unique way! I could see myself coming back to this game to keep on playing it, as it's very cosy and relaxing. The theming on the page is so cute too.

There's definitely some UI elements that I would update to make it clearer, but aside from that, it's an awesome game - nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much ! We'll work on improving the UI soon enough and release an update in the near future with feedback from here taken into account :) we forgot a lot of stuff and didn't think about a few things too so it'll be the occasion to put those in the game ! Thank you again for your kind words and have a good day :)

Submitted(+1)

Very beautiful and cozy game. And the music is also so soothing, matches the vibe. Really love the part of adding decorations. Some visual effects would brighten up the game even more.
Awesome game!

Developer

Thank you so much ! I did the music so it feels good to have someone say that :)

We'll work on an update soon (taking our time to rest right now) and take into account most of the feedback from here so I think we'll add visual effects, we were thinking wind effects and some other things :)

Submitted(+1)

Very nice art style and the added details such as being able to decorate your 'town' made this game stand out - FYI not sure if it was a bug, but there were some blue star buttons appearing on the worker housing but when I clicked them nothing happened

Developer(+2)

Hey!

Thank you for your comment! @Cahdmus and @Dana created all the art, and it's definitely what makes the game so cute. :)

The blue stars are the upgrade buttons! When you click one, it upgrades the worker assigned to that house, making them work faster.

Maybe we could add a visual or sound effect to make it clearer that the worker has been upgraded. :)

Submitted(+2)

So adorable. Art and Sound were perfect. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much ! Glad to hear you liked it :)

Submitted(+2)

I've saved the world !!!  Super cool vibe, the visual, sound, the little fun fact. Cozy and fun game. Would been cool to know the bread price of building and upgrades ( or am i blind, was it on my screen? )

Developer

Hi ! Thank you for your nice feedback :)

You're not blind ahah the prices are not currently shown, we litteraly forgot about it ! There will be an update with most of people's feedback taken into account once the voting period ends, don't hesitate to come back at some point if you wanna see an improved version of the game :)

Quick question though, did you have trouble reading the font ? Many people told us they had trouble with the font and we're trying to understand why exactly, to make it more readable. One hypothesis is that we (french) might have less trouble reading cursive/semi cursive writing and it could be a reason why people can't read it as easily as we can, one other reason might be also because it's not the most readable but yeah I was wondering :)

Submitted(+1)

Oh ok nice, i'm adding the game to my collection. I will try it again after the update.
Humm, the font was not the most easy to read but it was not an issue, i don't remember struggling to read and find the information. So your hypothesis could be right ^^.

Developer

Nice :)

Alright then haha we might be onto something then ! We'll try to update the font to make it more readable to non-french people ahahah

Hava a good day and thank you for your quick answer !

Submitted(+2)

Really cool little game !

This is the first construction game I've played on this game jam and I really like the idea of saving the world by making as much bread as possible! What would have been even better is overall to make it easier for the player to place their buildings for example rather than laying them one by one, being able to lay several in line at a single cost depending on the resources that we has. For improvements, a small interface to improve several buildings at once.
In fact this game can be so expandable that there could be so much more to do and build!

I want to farm as much bread as Cookie clicker does XDDD

Developer(+1)

Hi ! Thank you for your kind words !

We're planning on improving the game for a little while so all feedback is greatly appreciated ! We were thinking of some kind of "painting brush" to drop the windmills, would it fit what you had in mind ? Also maybe you could simply click on the windmill in the shop and then click anywhere to build as many as you want until you right click or click some other button that "resets" your mouse to a normal click. Tell us what you think :)

We don't have much time this week to think in team so we'll have to take some time later to see what we can do for upgrades and stuff like this, I was thinking of a type of worker that goes to upgrade windmills maybe ? We'll see what we agree on as a team to see where we go from here but we'll at least improve the game a little bit after the voting period ends :) Don't hesitate to come back in a while !

Also since you're French (if I'm not mistaken) I have a question for you lol

Did you have trouble reading the font ? Many people told us they had trouble with the font and we're trying to understand why exactly, to make it more readable. One hypothesis is that we (french) might have less trouble reading cursive/semi cursive writing and it could be a reason why people can't read it as easily as we can, one other reason might be also because it's not the most readable but yeah I was wondering :)

Submitted(+1)

Hi ! :)

Yea I was thinking about the 2nd option to place houses and objects faster !

If you continue working on this project I will come back for sure to see what did you make :D
For the type of worker you mentionned I don't think that a great idea bc you can upgrade windmills by yourself it's just hard and long when there is a lot of buildings to lv up, so the best is to : auto upgrade or be able to upgrade multiples building who are the same type of build.

The font is a bit hard even it doesn't really bother me , for the title it's fine but for long text it's a bit hard so it's better to change to a more readable font when there is a lot of text.

Developer(+1)

Alright thank you very much ! We'll take this into account and think about what we'll do :)

Have a good day !

Submitted(+1)

Have a good day too :D

Submitted(+3)

Extremely charming visuals, love the storybook, hand-drawn vibe. Like others have mentioned, only major down-side is related to store (readability of text, no listed prices, etc). As an idle game, would be fun to see an expansion of items become available through progression, which help you make more bread and thus save the world!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much ! Yeah we need to work on that store.. But we did add the prices in the latest release though it totally escaped our minds before the deadline of the game jam (we didn't update the web version because it felt unfair). I love your idea ! Progression is a bit lacking and I do plan on drawing a whole lot more of decorations (I'd love it if we could make different types of workers also, with different houses - to save the world of course). We'll for sure keep that in mind ! Thank you for playing and taking the time to write a review :)

Submitted(+1)

And we’re rolling! What a neat little game. Very concise premise and it delivers. The art style is really lovely, and the added decorations tab was a fun bonus. I can see a version with a bit more complexity to manage the windmills, but I think for the jam it wasn’t necessary. Excellent work!

Developer(+1)

thank you very much ! when Cahdmus got the idea to add a decoration tab, I was afraid we were gonna spend precious time on this and in the end I think it really adds a lot to the game ! (also it didn't take that much time to add I think)

We'll try and update the game once the voting period ends, not sure about the timeframe but we will be for sure updating the game for a little while and see where we go from there ! Thank you again for you feedback :)

Submitted(+2)

Very cute game! I loved the visuals and the concept!

I might not be the intended audience though, cause I have played my fair share of clicker games and automation games and I tend to like optimizing the games I play.
In your game I had a few issues that hindered my playthrough:

  1.      My biggest issue is my workers would get stuck on the top windmill when the path from the bottom is blocked
  2.  workers seem to choose randomly between the windmills they choose to collect from, and that really hurt my automation design.  having a range or them choosing the closest windmill would be a great addition.
  3. these 2 issues led to me not using the workers at all, which led to final point: I think the balance might be a bit backwards, because since higher level windmills take longer to be ready, I didnt even need workers, because collecting every 30-60 seconds manually at high level windmills was not an issue. Most clicker games go the opposite way, where higher level producers are faster, so manually collecting from them is more of a hassle and you are forced to use the automated solution.

Overall its still a great game though, dont let my nitpicks bring that into doubt!! I really enjoyed the artstyle and the vibe! I hope my review can be constructive feedback!!

ps. I tried to post an image of the bug in 1., but itch wouldnt let me post the comment, hit me up if you need it :)

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much for such a thorough review !

I'll address your points in order :

1. yeaaah the collision box for windmills might be a little off, thus blocking the worker's path and getting them stuck at different places, I thought I fixed most of it but apparently not ahah

2. they actually are supposed to go to the closest windmill but there might be bugs lol also they don't have a max range so if all workers closer to the windmill are busy, another worker will go to it, and then the timing of windmills might be too off for closer workers to take on and then there's no point in having a worker close to your windmill ! We'll make sure to fix that in a later update ! It's a bit tricky but we'll see what we can do !

3. You are absolutely right, I liked to see the workers walk and speak so I used them and laid back, but if we're talking efficiency, there's not much upside (maybe even none) to having workers, I think we were too focused on doing, doing, doing, that we forgot to think about some of those things, we will have to think about that and act accordingly to make it more efficiency-compatible (if it's the direction we wanna take, we're a group of 3 so I can't speak for everyone just yet)

No hard feelings, you gave us great feedback to make the game better in my opinion so thank you very much ! I'll try your game soon, I can't promise that i'll give such a thorough feedback but I'll do my best :) have a good day !

VERY nice style and cozy atmosphere (haha, get it?)

I loved the game idea and gameplay. Simple, cozy, just a place to chill and get some rest.

The single thing that was "not perfect"for me  is the font. Some notifications and guide cards was hard to read at the start, but then my eyes adjusted, so nothing critical.

Very nice game!

Developer(+1)

ahah nice joke ! I caught wind of (obligatory joke) the font issue and we'll be solving it in a later update, with most of the input we got here so be sure to check it out once the voting period ends :) have a good day and thank you for your input :)

Very, very cute game! I loved the art style and feel of it all! I would have loved to know the prices of things, and I'm not sure what upgrading the workers did, but besides that great work on this game!

Developer

Hi ! Thank you very much :))

As you might have read in my earlier replies to other reviews, we totally forgot to show prices and will add this in a later update :)

The worker's upgrade increases their travel speed, it  might not be noticeable on the first few upgrades tho, but that's another thing we should have added, explanations on a few details of the game ! We were so deep into the project that we forgot other people wouldn't know what we knew and forgot to add a few crucial things (I added the "tutorial" messages like a few minutes before uploading the game to our page ahah)

Glad that you liked our game anyways and can't wait to try yours :) This is the first time we do a gamejam with this many submissions and it's slightly overwhelming because I'd like to try every game but also really cool because there's so many of those, so many great ideas and it's always fun to see what people do with the same base theme ! Have a good day  ! :)

Submitted(+2)

wow the art is incredible and the whole game feeling is just lovely! i adored it and think that this is a seriously underrated game. our game also has a windmill and a "spin the world" theme but in a pretty different way (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind words ! I'll make sure to tell Cahdmus (our illustrator) that her art is loved :)

I'll try your game later today or tomorrow (i'm really tired ahah) but it got my attention, would love to see what you made with your windmill hehe

Have a good day :)

Cute clicker game! I enjoyed the painterly art and that, alongside the little smudges on the graph paper, give the visuals that imperfect handmade feel. The storybook-like visuals and the calming music really compliment the cozy style. I also enjoyed the wobbly intro animation and thought the pop up dialogue had a lot of charm with their child-like excitement for how fast the wind was blowing.

I'm not too familiar with idle/builder style games, so I'm not sure what to suggest other than what others have said such as showing the prices of the items you buy. Though I was racking up so much bread towards the later half of my playthrough that it almost didn't matter, haha. I thought it was a cute game and it kept my interest long enough for me to get the Earth spinning again. I guess I really liked seeing those numbers go up, lol.

Like others have said, the font could be made more readable. I was able to read it okay but it took me a second or two longer than it should to decipher the letters. I think the handwritten style of the font fits well with the game, but it might be too stylized for its own good.

Other than that, nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for all the good things you said about our game :)

The prices not being shown was something we totally forgot to add, same as the upgrade prices, I have added them in our latest version but it's not on the itch page for now, I just fixed a few bugs in the extended period, a few game breaking ones and I didn't know if I should add the prices to that update or not, and decided to play fair and just fix bugs and not make improvements. Once the voting period is over, we'll add an update with most of the improvements/input of reviews taken into account tho !

The font clearly was an issue for a lot of people apparently, out of curiosity, was it because it's written kind of in cursive or just overall not really readable ? We'll update this too as well as adding a choice for a more conventional font for accessibility purposes !

Thank you again for your kind words, have a good one !

Submitted(+1)

I could read the text, but it wasn't easy to recognize at a quick glance, which I typically wouldn't need to do when reading bodies of text. Like say, I'd be looking at a word and be like "does that saw 'sewer'? Oh, it says power" after a brief moment. Even if just a second or two, it does create some unnecessary friction, but it is readable. It would probably be better if it wasn't cursive. Or maybe a compromise, have paragraphs and longer text be in print and have standalone words (like 'Bread' on the HUD) be in cursive.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your project.

Really fun little clicker game. The visuals and music were great and fit the cozy vibe really well. I liked the customization allowing you to create a small little village.

I did encounter a small bug where workers would get stuck at the top of the map if there was a windmill placed there, and also moving the blue windmill after placing it down causes the blades to move off center.  But those were the only issues I encountered.

Overall fantastic game and I could definitely see this being a very fun clicker/village builder if it were to continue.

Developer

Thank you very much for you nice input :)

The workers getting stuck is a bug we didn't encounter while testing, could you be slightly more specific ? do you remember what kind of windmill it was ? It was the first time we used navigation agents and collisions in godot so it was rough and with more time we could have ironed out a few more bugs :)

The blades on the blue windmill is a known bug but I couldn't fix it in time so, sorry for this hehe.. I felt like it was an ok bug to leave out since it's not really breaking anything but it'll be fixed after the voting period hopefully !

Cahdmus (the illustrator) is learning how to use godot to improve the game because she really liked this project so I think it will continue being developped :)

Thank you again and have a good day :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I think it was the tall blue windmill, with two or three squares of room above it on the grid. If the worker tried to go over the windmill they would disappear behind it and never come out, maybe they were still collecting bread and I just didn't realize but it confused me all the same when three of my workers just vanished lol. (I was using the windows version of the game if that's relevant)

Again though, everything else was great and I think an expanded version of this could be really fun :)

Developer

Alright thanks ! I think it's the collision box then, it might be slightly too big and the workers don't have room to move/get stuck. I'll look into it !

Developer(+1)

Hey ! Thanks for the kind words they are very much appreciated :)

All the lovely art and sound design are handcrafted by @Dana and @cahdmus they always manage to create such wonderful atmosphere !

It's our first take on and idle / builder game ! I'm looking forward to continue implementing more stuff and polish some of the rough edges you mentionned !

xx

I noticed someone beat me to it, but the first thing I noticed was the readability of the font - very difficult to read sadly. I also agree that I would like to see the price of the items.

With those two small nitpicks out of the way the rest was really really good! The visuals and colorscheme is really nice, and the ability to add decoration made me spend a bit to long time here. <3

Top scores for theme and visuals! And I think the scope was great also, it was beatable at just the perfect time, considering the variation of items. *Chef's kiss*

Developer(+1)

Hey ! Thank you so much for the compliments :) I'll paste the answer I just did to the other reviewer

I understand the font is not the most readable, we made it kinda quickly and I'm sure there's a way to improve it while maintaining the childlike aspect of it, we'll try some things in the future I think ! (also it's really close to my handwriting so I can read it easily but I reaaaaally understand that not everyone might), if/when we update the game we'll for sure at least change slightly the font AND give the ability to change it to a more readable one for accessibility

We got caught up with the deadline and didn't give ourselves much time to test, the heatwave in where we live drained all our energy so we just litteraly didn't think about showing prices, it was shown in the beginning and we just forgot to add it back.. We'll add it for sure in later updates (Cahdmus is really motivated to keep updating this game at least for a little while)

For the crash, do you remember if you did something earlier that could have caused it ? i.e. moving/removing a windmill or worker house ? there's a few bugs there that we didn't have time/didn't find the right way to fix so this might be the reason, gonna work on that today and see if we can submit a late update !

Cahdmus will be glad to know her illustrations and color choices are appreciated :) (and the decorations was her idea as well) I'll try your game too after a little rest :) have a good one !

This was such a good take on the theme. The visuals were great, and the sound design was awesome too.
Overall this was a fantastic game.

Some feedback:
- I had a bit of trouble with reading the font
- It would be nice if the shop indicated how much each item cost to buy, at the start I just spammed until the item placed but later this became less of an issue because of the amount of bread I was making
- I played this on web (despite the recommendation in the description) and for some unknown reason it crashed around the 6m30s mark

Other than that I loved it. Great job

p.s. I would love to see this more fleshed out as a full release :D

The heatwave really challenged us too it was rough

For the crash I remember having about 7-8 of the larger windmills and I was spam clicking to collect everything. I think I had around 3-4 workers. I was reorganizing where everything was placed and then shortly after it froze. Sorry if this isn't detailed enough for you to figure out what may have happened.

At the end of the day tho, I had a great time. Well done again :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah so if I'm not mistaken it's because the way the workers are assigned their "job" relies on an array, and this array is modified when we move things around (both the workers array and the windmills one) and sometimes it tries to reach an index that doesn't exist anymore.. I'll try to fix this today because you might not be the only one that encounters this bug !

The heatwave was just the worst haha so well timed to the whole duration of the jam lol anyways thanks again and have a good day :)

Submitted(+1)

No worries! Hope you are right and are able to squash that bug! Best of luck :)
