I honestly found the spin attack a bit lacking, maybe some sound effect,  making it bigger so it's less likely to get hit, and not having that much cooldown could've improved it. Lacks a bit of "juice" for my taste, but it is decently enjoyable and it is decently presented, something I always appreciate in jam games. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! It was lacking quite a bit of juice, but I just couldn't find a way to implement it. I tried adding screenshake but I couldn't figure it out...

Really enjoyed the concept and the spin attack! I found it quite hard though, and I agree that removing the timer and making stamina a bit more forgiving would make it even    more fun to play!

Thanks for playing! I agree that the difficulty is quite unforgiving, but that may or may not be the case because there are only three levels (wink wink)

I’ve got no complaints other commenters haven’t already outlined! Although those issues really bring down the enjoyment.

Good game overall!

Thanks for playing!

With the speedrunning aspect of it, the harsh cooldown on the spinning ability felt a bit unreasonable. But it's a well made game, visually the strongest, audio was fine too. For the gameplay i think you either have to choose between the game slowing you down with the cooldown, but not utililyzing a timer, or scrap cooldown and make it work only if you used all of your stamina up, and keep the timer.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the review! I agree that the cooldown was a bit harsh, but I think it is necessary, otherwise, the player could just breeze through the game with ease.

nice game

the stamina is a little bit annoying with the cool down it would have been great if you tried to mimic souls-like stamina recover mechanic and animation also the music was nice at first but it gets repetitive when you play

other than that great job fellow platformer enjoyer :)

Thanks for playing! Could you elaborate on how to improve the stamina system? I havent played any souls-like games, unfortunately

i don't know how to describe it other than checking gameplay of any souls game try watching few minutes of Elden ring gameplay and focus on how the stamina bar works in game because that's a visual presentation type of thing that you see and get a feeling for when you try it out

Neat little game. I think it's a strong foundation, and there's a bunch of different directions you could take it. For example, it could be interesting if the blade spinning affects the player's fall speed or acts as a double jump, since it already kinda looks like a helicopter.

I have to agree with IcyZ1ne about removing the timer; it's not really necessary but maybe you could replace it with a stopwatch and leaderboard to encourage speedrunning.

Good job on completing your first game jam!

Thank you! The floating while spinning part was actually planned, however, I couldn't find a way to implement it without introducing like 10 other bugs in the process.

I wish there wasn't a timer or stamina mechanic, as I don't really see the point in either, the game not being a speedrunning one. And the movement could have had some more "juice" by having coyote timing and jump buffering along with others, but overall cute little platformer!

Developer

I understand that these mechanics are a little annoying to deal with, but I think they were necessary, otherwise, the player could just spin their way through the entire level. As for the timer, it was a way to tie in with the health system because the way it works was that when you're at one hp, a 15-20 sec timer starts and when it ends, you get your health back. But, during playtesting, some players would just wait there for their health to come back, which is boring. Since I didn't have time to make a better health system, I decided to add the timer. Thanks for playing and for the feedback, it is very appreciated!

Great nod to Garen from LoL!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I have no idea who that is lol

The movement is butter smooth mostly having a hardtime with the health display and stamina display but overall this has the potential to be a very addicting metroidvania game.

Thank you for playing! it was my first time making a HUD so it was a little bumpy and there are a lot of bugs...
