Genuinely peak. I absolutely love the style, the writing, the audio and the visuals. The gameplay is so silly and fun. I really enjoy the different routes you can take and the obstacles.

By jove, this fantastical moving picture does quite tickle my fancy! This game is so good as a foddian experience and it just hits all the right points between difficulty and  humour at the same time. I especially love how no one actually speaks in the game and ever voice line is a fully screen pause like in old silent films, its a great touch that really ads to this game's character. Great game, loved it, good work :D

Developer

I tip my hat to you, good sir 🎩

This has to be one of the best games of the Jam. I could imagine this scaling so good into a real game, maybe a ragegame lol but a very intertaining one. I like the context of the game and how you adjusted the visuals to match it

Developer

Yooo thanks Kruko, that's high praise in a jam with this many games! I also can't help but be rather tempted to expand it into a whole city of vaudevillian antics and baudy tomfoolery. On the hand, I feel that urge after every game jam. Thank you for playing!

This game's awesome! I love the whole aesthetic and the theme behind it! I like the music, sound effects and the goofiness of the character when I hit something lol. The gameplay's really fun even though it is challenging, once I got used to it, it gets way moreee fun! I would also say its quite serious as well! Awesome work on the game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you Spwil! I want you to know, I take seriousness with the utmost seriousness.

Submitted

I will take that into account my good seriousness!

Submitted(+1)

My, what golly good fun this interactive film is! But for real a really funny good game with hard but fun steering mechanic!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

There's got be something wrong with us, why won't we just let the players steer normally?!

Submitted(+1)

this is great, i love the art style and the controls are so funny, the comedy is also great i like how you used the text pages instead of something like a word bubble , great work this is very serious

Developer(+1)

Thanks Dwarf, yeah its very serious, the most serious, many people are saying so

The style here is so on point - this game is great, the humour is well balanced, and it's just generally rather funny. The commitment to the theme is on point and really well done - and the delightfully clunky controls really work in it's favour. It gives me the same vibes as QWOP and Happy Wheels, where fine-tune control is the way to win, and each loss is a learning curve to overcome. By the end of my play session I feel like I'd finally gotten a grasp of it, in spite of numerous crashes into lampposts, cars, other velocipedes, the bollards, the road after horizontal dismount...

Honestly this was a really funny game and I could see this doing circuits as an online arcade game.

Bravo, my fellow rapscallion!

Developer

QWOP was definitely front and center in my initial brainstorm! It's crazy how that kind of stuff comes through. Thanks for playing. :)

Really cool game! It genuinely made me laugh, and it felt really well polished.

Developer

Thank you! I hoped it would make folks laugh

What a delightful jape!

The commitment to the style and theme is positively splendid. The visuals, sounds, writing all conspire together with tremendous charm and pluck.

I confess I expected some ghastly physics contraption designed solely to test the limits of one's patience, yet it proved forgiving enough to remain joyous throughout.  Even one's inevitable tumbles felt less like failure and more like a brief opportunity for slapstick.

A fantastic entry overall, and unquestionably one of my favourites. Bravo, splendid work, and do please continue this nonsense at once. I award this contraption several enthusiastic harrumphs/10.

Yours,
A. BigDinosaur, Esq.

Developer

Thank you so much, big dinosaur! If you had seen it on day two or three, ghastly physics contraption would have been an apt description. I wasn't sure it was going to be salvageable at all for awhile there, but somehow it came together and I scrambled for the finish line (appropriately enough, I suppose). Thank you so much for your kind praise, I thoroughly enjoyed your game as well.

Hidden gem! What a cool game!

Excellent concept, great vibes, and the controls were setup in a way that my failures were clearly a skill issue (everything was totally fair when I fell... a lot lol).

Fantastic job!

Developer(+1)

Hehe, hidden gem, I'm honored. You know, it occurs to me there's a little crossed DNA in our two games and their left / right fixations. Great minds think alike, I suppose

Thy game reminded me of the good ol' times ma'te

Ah how i used to break the thieve's velocipede and be a saviour and a good person

I managed to get the fees for my family and im a very good citizen with velocipede

I found it a bit unfair that my opponent who doesn't want me to be the bread winner of my family is visible in front of me after hitting me unethically unlike a good gentleman

I liked thy game tho and it is very goofy , i finished all the 3 races with the amazing velocipede™ď¸Źand I liked the movement.

Good job gentleman

Developer

Yes indeed, good sir, indubitably, posthaste perchance very well and good day

Loved the style, story, humor, and overall whimsy! It’s very cohesive artistically. I feel like I need to spend more time mastering the controls, but I had a lot of fun just being immersed in the world. You managed to bring fun and variety even to failing, and that’s quite an achievement!

Developer

Thanks Ruby! Yeah, once I had the idea to make it visually resemble the silent film era, there was really no going back. I appreciate your kind comment đź™Ź

Great Scott !! this game is amazing i was giggling the whole time

Developer(+1)

Giggling?! While a man literally breaks his neck trying to feed his family? Well, I never!

Submitted(+1)

This is a fun one. The audio, visuals, and writing do very well together to put the player in the appropriate atmosphere. It's meant to be difficult to bike so you find yourself crashing all the time in silly ragdoll ways and that's always entertaining even when frustrating. As you keep going you will you get better at the controls , but now it throws narrow path ways so you'll still keep crashing.

I think at the start of the game the slides with text could have stayed a little longer on screen- often times it switched away before I could finish reading. And maybe allowing the player a little more practice before a race would have been nicer, or perhaps a slightly better camera angle so it's easier to see the position of the legs (and therefore quickly learn the timing) since the tips does say it's better to pedal when the corresponding legs are at the highest point.

Overall, I enjoyed my time at penny farthing.

Developer

You demonstrate a really keen understanding of what I'm doing here, it's cool for me to see. Thank you for playing and leaving your impressions.

Submitted(+1)

I laugh a LOT with this one. One of the funniest without a doubt.

Really imersive old movie vibes with amazing visuals. The gameplay is simple but hard to master. Even after i figure it out how to go faster I still fell sometimes. And I did I did not regret. The coments, hahaha, I loved. "O rats".

Great game!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks Magione. I definitely was going after something seriously funny with this. I wrote a lot of those Intertitle cards, they just started flowing out of me at one point. And don't worry, I still fall down while playing too. Actually, I think its my favorite part. Maybe I should go to therapy.

Submitted(+1)

Great entry with great atmosphere. Really enjoyed it, not really any critique I could give! :)

Developer

Thanks Max, you're too kind :)

Submitted(+1)

This is so good! This game feels so well put together and very complete. It is so clever with its interpretation of the theme. Of course my favorite part is the ragdolling. It is most excellent. But we shouldn’t laugh, it is a most Serious matter that could cause injury. I have no complaints, except maybe that I didn’t hear any honking when pressing the H key!

I highly enjoyed this. Great stuff!

Developer(+1)

Nooo you're right the horn is broken somehow ahhhh how did I miss this. damn, will have to wait until after ratings for me to patch that I suppose. The ragdolling / IK took the longest to implement here, but it's also my favorite part of the game :) Thanks for checking it out -- I still remember your grapple game from a few years back

Submitted(+1)

Aww, thanks, that means a lot! Up until now, I haven’t participated in a game jam since that grapple game; life got in the way. It feels nice to take part in a jam again, although I’m definitely a little rusty!

I also remember some of your games. Blitzkraft and Udder Chaos in particular, since we both participated in those Game Offs. You’ve been been busy honing your craft since then!

Submitted(+1)

I was certain that I gotten a hold of the controls...

Then the cars showed up...

Developer

So sadistic, yet so hilarious...

Submitted(+1)

Lovely game with a lovely mechanic! I like how whimsical it is and the balancing feels pretty good. The other racers are a lot better than me but it makes me want to practice. Great models are art setting!

Developer(+1)

Joey, thanks for checking out my game! And thanks for your nice sentiments.

Submitted(+1)
I was trying to get mad at being so bad at the game, but I couldn't stop laughing. Kudos to the devs!
Developer(+1)

100% my goal. Glad to hear it :)
