I had a nice time with this! I got recommended this by someone after I was wondering if there was a game about a spinning area. The artwork is very stylish and clean, great work on the pseudo 3D! I really like all of the enemy variety they help create various challenges for the game. Although I wished the rotating fireball one would start out slow or be telegraphed better cause it's very jarring. Overall a very good experience!

Yooo this is sick! the art is really cool, neat, simple and cute. The gameplay loop is also reflective in that, it is simple but effective! the variety of waves is also nice to keep the game fun. The only nitpick i might have is that it might be nice if the difficulty ramps up a bit faster, but that really is just personal taste

Really loved the simple art style for the game and also the varied enemy kept the game engaging

Simple but very fun ! I thought the artstyle was very cool, the cute little satsuma (I thought it was an orange but now I know!) with the epic castle in the background really did it for me. The enemies were varied and made you play a little differently to adapt so that was cool. I would've really liked a bit of music and to be able to hold to shoot, my hand kinda hurt after a bit. Aside from that, it was great so congrats to you !

Really fun. I got the pck missing error but it worked the second time I tried launching it.

Also be mindful, since the score goes up with time spent and since fruits on the board don't start any new wave, you could just stand there and have infinite score.

Other than that, this was a super simple yet fun concept. All the enemy types played really well with the spinning platform. Well done :)

Congrats on finishing ur game! Its really fun to play, and its nice that the spinning direction of the level influences the player velocity so he cant just run counter clockwise

Really cool art direction and the platform shooter mechanics were a blast to play around with. The game itself spinning adds a nice new level of challenge to a genre that generally has basic control systems and movement mechanics, so I like it a lot. I also like the variety of different enemy types as it makes each round feel more unique than just enemy, stronger enemy. As I said the art is great and really cool looking with the pixelated and dithered castle looming over the background and the cute little sprites running around the foreground building a nice contrast. This is some truly solid work, and I enjoyed it a lot, good job!! :D

Oh, a twin stick shooter on a rotating platform is a simple but surprisingly effective interpretation of the theme! Nice level of polish, I like the visual clarity of things and balance seems pretty decent, though I play way too little twin stick shooters to have a good feel for that. I really like the visual clarity and who doesn't love a good ol' blue-orange contrast? One thing I think the game could have used would have been to play a little more with the spinning platform -- reverse it, change its speed, whatever -- but overall this is a pretty strong entry!

gotta love a good 2.5D!
did you program the playspace graphics or brute force an animation?

very fun, love the unique style

Developer

Glad you liked it, I used a brute forced animation which took a bit of time to get everything matching up.

Super stylish game!  The art style is fantastic, and the retro vibes are really authentic.  Super cool to see that 3d-from-2d retro aesthetic, and I'll bet it was tricky to get the movement of the rotating disc to feel right without it beind 3d under the hood (unless I'm mistaken).  I initially felt like there was a mismatch between the creepy castle graphics on the title screen, and the cute little orange running around shooting people, but somehow it works!

Gameplay was really fun.  I felt like the difficulty ramped up very quickly.  Not saying that's a bad thing, but for me the waves went from chill to "oh no" pretty fast.  The rotating platform is a nice twist.  It definitely affects your movement and your planning.

I only really have two critiques: One is that I would have liked for my aiming reticle to be a little bit more visible; it's easy for it to get lost in the environment.  And the other is that I would have liked some background music during the runs.  The sound effects are really well-designed, but without some music in the background, I feel like it's missing just a little bit of something.

All-in-all, I really enjoyed this game, and I'm glad I stumbled across it.  Great work!

I uploaded my first ever YouTube video playing and rating some of the jam games, including Satsuma Castle!

Really enjoyed your game!

Developer(+1)

Just checked out the video and it is really cool to watch someone playing a game that I've made, glad you enjoyed it and rated it so kindly!

Was quite difficult to play, got 6055! The spinning arena adds an interesting twist to combat where going in one direction helps you avoid enemies/projectiles more easily - so you’re always biased towards it

Team Ass Jeroxia here! Got this in our random queue! Let's see..

 play by play:

  • Firstly! Great aesthetic. Love the main menu.
  • The sound on the main menu is good too.
  • Given a high score I expect something super fast paced so... Locking in...
  • Got 1000 on our first try! Turns out the basic shooters have aim assist! Good to know!
  • Second one I got 6431! Good score! Pretty happy with that.

Overall. Little to say! The spinning is fun. The sound is neat. Not what I expected given the main menu, but the game did not disappoint! Fun first game in the queue!

Got all the way to 5753. Gets pretty chaotic quite fast and i love it.

So cool graphics and the gameplay is really satisfying. Can't believe you did this all on your own! Such a great and serious game i give it 5 oranges / 5.

Brilliant game! Love the art, very cute enemies. Impressive that you made the 2D spinning effect, would like to know more about the process you used to code that! Well done, great stuff!

This is awesome! I love the background art, the camera angle, and the spinning arena.
How'd you go about the spinning platform? Is it 2D or is  this an Enter the Gungeon scenerio where its half and half?

Developer(+1)

It's entirely 2D, which looking back at was probably a mistake because it made the calculations for all the spinning really difficult, but I'm glad it paid off.

Oh nice! The spinning is what made me curious, since it wasn't (or didn't feel like) it was completely top down. Thanks for the feedback!
