Very fun and serious game! My main critique would be that the camera angle is quite awkward. My natural tendency was to aim it pretty far down when walking to seem myself but when I had to shoot I needed to snap super far up and then I wouldn't want to keep it there bc I'd be looking too high to see the terrain I was navigating. Overall very good entry tho!

Reloading felt very satisfying, but the rolling made some encounters a bit easy to get around. I'd maybe prefer more ammo, and less need for rolling around enemies, but could just be my aim that needs work!

Amazing game jam game. The project felt legitimately professional as an fps shooter, and I really liked the reload mechanic. It forces you to pay attention to your revolver while you're trying to dodge enemies, creating for a really tense and engaging combat.

This is for me easily the best game in the jam.

Developer

Thank you! That's very high praise!

bro the composer needs to differentiate between bitcrushing and downsampling 😭

Wow this was awesome! The reload mechanic was really fun. The rolling felt satisfying. Imma add this to my collection of game jam games I really liked :)

I like the reloading mechanic, it's a creative use of the theme. Like others have said, the game is punishing, but I'm sure it's intentional. I had a hard time with the two hogs in that one room. But I enjoyed it overall. Good job!

My heart was pumping as I encountered two hogs in an enclosed space, I tried as hard as I could to keep calm and shoot them, for the sake of my dead squad, but ended up joining my comrades sooner than expected.. I loved it ! Nice reloading mechanics, very serious war and pretty visuals :) Good job on this game !

There was one weird thing tho when you look to the side sometimes your character rotates I guess and you end up looking somewhere completely different ? Not sure about that but either way great job ! Would love to see more of this !

Developer(+1)

That rotation thing is a bug we only found after launch unfortunately. It's weird as it only seems to happen to some people and not others, so we're not exactly sure what causes it, but we'll try to fix it once the jam's over. Thanks for playing!

This is so good! The limited ammo had me struggling for a bit until i started dodging past all the melee guys after that I had plenty. As long as I lived lol. The act of dodging while also trying to reload was so intense. Great game. Make more games!

I made it to the end, really liked the save feature here! Also the non-linear path unlocking more ammunition and heals along the way. Ammunition felt very unforgiving, as it was very sparse, so you basically had to headshot everybody. Some way to reload (slower) on 0 bullets would have been nice to prevent guaranteed death. The reloading is quite intense, especially when being chased, but I liked that rush a lot!

Nice retro themed game! The controls were nice but the mouse sensitivity felt really low. Also cool that you incorporated backtracking with the color key unlocks.

Great game and a fun challenge (if you ever try to do a pacifist run just know it is possible to sneak past the red guy on the way to the red key it only needs a little patience) / 10

Holy smokes, intense game. But still super enjoyable - would love to see more Armydillo!

This was surprisingly intense! Great music and atmosphere, the reload minigame was very satisfying to get right and harrowing to get wrong. Despite the lofi nature it all came together to feel like real action in a real space. Only critique is I didn't quite follow the sequence of events in the opening comic, but you know what? I see an advancing pig soldier, I shoot it in the head. Simple as.

Really interesting reload mechanic, if a bit punishing. I did have some fun panic rolling while trying to time my reloads. It may have been good to have a tutorial or otherwise somehow force the player to reload before they encounter enemies (maybe a lock or window they need to shoot by reloading first). Some starting ammo would also have been nice.

Overall great job!

Developer(+1)

Hi there! We were originally going to have  a lock the player has to shoot to open the starting door, but figured players would then get confused with  the other locks in the game that you can't shoot (Though we probably could have just used text to explain this :P. Our bad).    There is also some ammo in the first room to the right of the door if you ever want to try again. Thanks for playing!

I love the pressure that the reload system puts you under. I was running around the lockers trying to reload for  while the pigs chased me lol. The characters are also fun, makes for a lighthearted and enjoyable game.

I loved this game! It is very promissing really, the only thing i wish it was different is that the game is not first person, it really breaks some of my immersion being able to see the main character, but besides that, i loved, i want to see it on steam some day!

Developer(+1)

We were debating making it first person, but we decided to make it third -person since we thought it would be important for players to see the titular Armydillo. I prefer FPS games too. Thanks for playing and the feedback!

10/10, that poor shell-shocked armadillo

The reload mechanic is such a great use of the spin theme, turning “click click click” into an actual skill you have to manage mid-fight is genius. Pig soldiers jumping me from around corners had me properly on edge. Totally get the ammo complaints in the comments, but that tension is honestly part of what makes it feel like you’re actually pinned down.
