Very cool main character design and sprite work. Every move sooo well animated. Well done :D
Nice little infinite monster game. I like that the first powerup unlocks after you level up the first time - especially with the new enemy drop. I did find it a little hard to balance my speed, the enemy speed, and the length of my attack (it felt hard to get close enough to do damage without taking damage - maybe a wider reach on the weapons would have helped me to feel more comfortable in it, especially when starting out?).
Nice character design, and I like that the blue experience bar is the same color to make it super clear that it's my experience going up. It made me feel more tied to my progress, just by the color connecting the bar with my character. A small thing that I hadn't considered in other infinite-monster-style games, but I think it adds a little something nice here.
I got to wave 17 by which time my guy was already maxed out :) Very fun game. Not a lot of spinning in the gameplay, but i dont care because the the idea is very well executed. Sprites and animations remind me a lot of Terraria with Calamity Mod, very satisfying. The sounds, slow mo on hit and enemies flashing also add a lot of polish. The space ability is super dope, feels great to use. Balance wise i found it weird that the shift ability would use energy since the space ability basically already fulfills its purpose and more, so i ended up not using it. The game is not terribly difficult, but the upgrades give a very nice sense of progression :) Solid job overall!
Very fun game! Amazing spritework (the animations are so fluid!) and the subtle lighting effects behind them is really nice. Sound effects are spot-on, too (the death sound effect was cool enough to relieve some of my frustration at dying!). The music was good, but it got a little bit repetitive over time. I didn't feel like spinning was terribly prevalent, but a lot of the attacks did have a kind of spinny nature.
Combat was smooth and really well-tuned. I liked that you had to be somewhat precise with your attacks because it feels like your attack doesn't extend very far past your own hitbox. Everything felt fair, and when I died, I knew it was my fault and never got mad at the game. The powerups were really satisfying and added some flexibility to combat. Everything felt really well balanced.
All-in-all, this was a great entry; kudos to the whole team!
TY TY! I'm very glad you liked the animations and sprite work! you can thank the subtle lighting affect to nbound and the death sfx to faith!
but yeah I agree, I don't know why but I sort of feel relieved that you also thought and noticed the game doesn't have too much spinny in it
it was the same thoughts and worries I had going into the project, especially considering I was the one to suggest the game format being this way and also making the attack animations "spin" for our take on the game jam theme.
now I must admit, I would be 100% lying though if I were to say "I wish I animated something else to spin or changed how we approached the jam theme" I absolutely LOVED animating the character, and despite the shortcomings I'm glad you appreciated the animations too.
thank you for your kind words!
Well balanced in its simplicity! I loved the way energy drops reward accurate usage of your abailities. The fact that the music just kept and kept changing was also really impressive.
I LOVE the art and animations! I think it feels really good and the upgrades are good too. I do agree that a little screen shake would go a long way. I feel like if this was made into a bigger game (maybe with boss fights and more lore?) this would be SO epic! Keep up the amazing work! :)
Fun Game can definitely use some visual flare though. Some feedback like camera shake would add a lot to the game. Hope you post more updates!
Damn its crazy how its polished and feels good to play I couldnt get that level of polish in 3 weeks
Awsome game!
thanks! nbound was the programmer and they did extremely well! while I was responsible partly for the character design, enemy visual, map visuals, and animations, nbound was able to deal with me constantly suggesting new ideas and consistently work on it the whole week during the game jam window, they were absolutely wonderful to work with
even pulling through to add a lot of final revisions and refinement to seriously improve the quality of "Lethal Promenade"
My first game in this game jam is this??? You guys are amazing. I could spend 3 weeks on a jam and not have the level of quality that you guys have. There's only really one suggestion I have, and it's to make a custom cursor that replaces the default so that it's easier to see where you are aiming. Great job
