Insanely impressive in every regard. Super fun, crazy stylish, super effective use of everything you put in. I hit a bug reentering dungeon 4 that wouldn't let me move, but I'll be doing another run later to try a different build.
Frankly awesome !!!!!!! I love the 2.5d hub world !!!! Juggling your inventory is really cool too!!! So pretty ^^
Excellent work! Played for quite a bit, super cool visuals, loved the inventory tetris and now I'm craving a burger
BURGER
That was creepily awesome. The concept of mech made of meat and bones are amazing, albeit a bit scary, though I guess we can say human is kinda like that :p
The enemy design are also very well done, and I'm amazed by the amount of content and how polished the mechanic are, the atmosphere and music are also on point.
Also really like the equipment system and the consume mechanic. Overall, a very solid entry, great job!
My eye's hurting in the end, but it's simply perfect.
Feels reminiscent of cruelty squad, but put into a mecha scenario. I found this wonderfully artistic and fun.
A beautifully digusting combination of dungeon crawling, Wrought Flesh, Cruelty Squad, and mech!
I loved just about everything about this, the concept itself is amazing, but the visuals, the audio, and the mechanics of consuming and equipping different items and their usage was really neat. Oh, and now I really want to make a game with the same effects as the Chaos Engine lol.
5/5 in all categories, great work!
This was wild. Loved the world and setting. The idea of flesh and fluids as systems is mad. I spent a lot of time playing this. Insane work for a game jam. Outstanding work on this everyone.
Thank you for playing <3
Incredible game. W
Cyber build OP!!!!!
damn that was amazing. 2 weeks and you managed to build a whole ass game. The amount of content and polish crammed into this in 2 weeks is insane.
My only criticism is that it needs work on balancing because it was way too easy. I never felt like I was at risk of losing or running out of resources. My strat was to just focus on cyber related upgrades and I very quickly became OP one or two shotting encounters with the AOEs.
I really liked the mechanic of consuming parts to gain resources. It made every find feel useful, even though it’s probably part of the reason the game is so easy right now. Maybe you could add another resource that you gain from consuming parts, maybe some kind of waste or byproduct of the digestive process of a biological system. Something like that which you could collect by consuming parts and then trade them for bones (a shit for bones kinda system).
I would definitely play a fully developed version of this with more content, balance, and a more fleshed out economy.
5/5 all around
Thanks for the feedback! You're definitely right about the balance/difficulty. We were down to the wire on just getting it completed and didn't have a lot of time/effort to devote to balancing-- so we erred on the side of making it too easy rather than too difficult which could have pushed people away. You're spot on about the consuming-- before that was fully implemented the game was HARD and very resource draining, after implementing the whole thing became fairly easy. If we were to go back now we'd probably scale enemy stats per level to make things more difficult. Thanks for playing & commenting!!
This is absolutely insane for a two week jam title. Everything is just polished so well. I loved the little CRT for the minimap and the soundtrack was fantastic in every level. It's stylish to the max and I loved the build variety. I ended up meatmaxing and made it to floor 4 before I stopped. The malfunctioning radar was cheeky! it took a minute to figure out why I could no longer see my map LMAO. This is a fantastic entry and I could honestly see this doing pretty well on Steam. The UI was fantastic and not intrusive in any way. You guys absolutely smashed it!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Well, the game is just awesome: music, art, the 2D/3D lobby, how HUD would jiggle when you turn. I'm astounded how well everything turned out. I mean I'm speechless. It's really cool)
Though, sadly, I couldn't go past the first enemy because it was just taking too long: my video card did not support DX12 and when I switched to OpenGL it started freezing for minutes on every scene load or some kind of new visual effect. Some textures were black - had to navigate out of the first room by minimap alone. Still from what I've seen in it's obvious it is a great game. 10/10!
I'm sorry you encountered hardware/performance issues! Regardless thanks for trying it out and we appreciate the kind words 🙏
I had so much fun playing this! I love the concept of the robots piloting meat for it's benefits in comparison it's such a cute idea! the characters are all so well designed and the gameplay was really enjoyable, I'm normally not a fan of dungeon crawlers with a stam system but I found myself enjoying moving around the dungeon and actually wanting to fight the enemies as opposed to my usual "avoid all encounters and speedrun it" tactic i find myself doing in the genre usually. x) the consume function for the gear was really creative and made me actually think about which items to keep and which to eat. almost felt like poe with organizing them in the inventory too. Overall had a blast playing this and for the game jam this is just such an incredible entry with mesmerizing aesthetics and a sick soundtrack. all the sounds were EQ'd so well too i didnt even have to touch the volume control! Truly well done I love it!!! Very polished!
Path of Exile and Diablo were definitely an inspiration for the inventory system! Thanks for playing!!
Absolutely outstanding art! A bit hard to understand the mechanics at first, but it makes you want to try more. 5/5 all the way.
A Masterclass in Style , amazing entry!
Thanks so much!
I was expecting some cyberpunk thing at the beginning but it turns as something closer to eXistenZ, there's something visceral about it, music sounds like some phonk without the kicks. Kinda goofy the good way
eXistenZ was actually on our moodboard so your pretty spot on! Thank you for the kind review!
This is completely insane for a jam game. The grid-based inventory system is a neat twist on the dungeon crawler format, the graphics and music are dope an work insanely well... this game has as much soul as it has meat.
Q : Where’s the beef ? A : it’s all in this game right here.
Okay stupid intro joke aside (i’m sorry it was too tempting :p) the game is awesome !
I really like how you guys took the classic turn based dungeon crawler formula and put a unique spin on it by having it set in some biopunk nightmare setting but with still some nice humor (which i’m not surprised considering your previous mech jam entry XD)
The very grunge-ey textures really give this a unique look, the 3D hub with the little 2D character sprites are fantastic, the photo like item sprites add a nice touch of surreal to the whole thing, it’s solid overall.
The music is so awesome as well, it completes the insane look perfectly and i especially like the hubworld music ! One detail in particular struck me so i have to ask, did you guys sample the sound from the old Alien trailer for one of that instruments ? cause it sounds incredibly similar and if so it’s a genius move cause i did not expect that :o
Gameplay wise i also really enjoy the grid based inventory system in which you equip your different bio modules to determine your stats buffs and abilities. I was struggling a bit at first until i understood you could drag and drop unwanted items on the consume icon to regain some health and bile in the process, super clever design ! I don’t know how you balanced things out but i ended up using the Fucked up Claw a lot cause it seemed like the most reliable attack option that i could have.
Points again for the humor of the game where i’ll just comment by summing up my playthrough :
Temu Shodan told me to get in the Bio-Bot, shopped for some meat before my leave, crawled down in the dungeon for a bit to fight some flippin’ hands and cyclops, aqcuired the Winrar license, then ate it, then got killed by a bunch of burgers…
10/10
Great job to all of you :)
Thanks so much for the lovely review, your summary at the end made us crack up. I also love the hubworld music, I'll let Sam answer that one since I have no idea what kind of magic goes into making music like that haha. Programming all the systems was tough and if it feels balanced I'm happy, but I'll tell you it was down to the wire trying to get everything to work nicely with everything else haha
Thanks for playing!
Haha well that’s just how i go when i review jam games so i’m happy if that made you guys laugh XD but i really had to mention it cause i really lost it when i encountered the Winrar license item in game, it just took me right back to all those years of just dismissing the popup about it (like every body did) any time i encountered an archive XD
And i have no doubt you had your hands full to manage all the rpg systems at play here :)
Hey, I made the hub world song! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I just watched (and listened) to the Alien trailer and found that sound you mentioned. The instrument I used in that spot on the track is a Korg MS-20 Mini synthesizer, going through a plate reverb plugin. The synth is a remake of a 1983 synthesizer, so it's possible it's similar to whatever the trailer's composer was using in their track. Thanks again for the kind words!
No worries ^^ and it was truely my favorite, so i’m not crazy though ? If you checked you see what i mean, it does sound a lot like it no ? Even if it wasn’t intended i feel considering the art direction of the game it is such a cool detail :D And dang if the synth you used is a remake of an 80’s one it could totally be the reason why it sound so close :)
Biomechanical theme isn't something new to me, but this game's concept is, it's very unique! While I'm not a big fan of turn-based RPG, the visual aesthetic that goes well with both theme and concept kept me hooked for a good run.
If you can make a person who's not into a certain genre enjoy it, I say it's a job well done! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you so much for playing and for your kind words :)
