Really enjoyed the experience, good job! I guess everybody and their mother said it, but it is really Stanley Parable like, and it works.
Had 2 endings, wanted to try if something could happen if I didn't move at all at the beginning, not even a finger, but couldn't reset the run. Will see where UE saves its data later maybe, to try it
If I had a thing to say, it is to maybe ease a little bit the platform phase? I suck at 3D platformer, yes, but I think one or two things could change not so much but make it more enjoyable:
- you already have the coyote time i think (or just i am bad at knowing when i am not on a platform), but you could also add a little buffer to the jump. I died so many times jumping some frames before touching a platform...
- make the hitbox of the laser disappear at the same time of the sound (maybe even just before), if you rush too much, when it seems it is finished, you die by what seems to be the void for you. Even if it isn't, you (ok, i, but let's say) think there is nothing, and it is a little bit frustrating.
Congrats again, keep making meta or narrative games, you have what it takes for it!
What an incredible exspinience. I know everybody else and their dog has already said it, but this just RADIATES Stanly Parable vibes. Most of the game being basic default assets really only added to the feel. Things like the pencil keeping it’s velocity when you reset it. Things like the window name and icon just being a basic unreal engine one. I loved that.
The narrator guy’s voice was quite quiet, but it was no big deal because this game was pretty funny. The meta elements worked wonderfully too; I had thought the clock was only added in as a Stanley Parable reference up until… well, I won’t spoil. Just in case.
Great entry! I loved it all! …aside from the rickroll. That was mean of you.
What in the Stanley Parable? This was SICK and deep.
Really had a great time with this. Web only folks, you're missing out. Writing was funny, concept was great. Platforming was a little tricky, but it's worth working your way through. Overall, really great job!
Where oh where do I begin with this? Awesome, awesome, awesome. I have a true soft spot for games that don't take themselves too seriously and I love this pastiche on Stanley Parable (and others in the genre).
I played through twice because I wanted to see both endings, and while we've already spoken a bit on Discord I'll write everything out here.
First things first. We need to discuss some completely ILLEGAL activities in this game that I am here to haul you to The Hague for crimes against humanity:
Okay with that out of the way. This is a top game for me this jam; there is so much I liked and enjoyed. The narrative is excellent, solid writing, very funny, and a love letter to the games that inspired it. The levels are excellent and ramp up in interesting ways. As I was playing through I was thinking what I might do as a dev in this situation; one idea I had was for the player to have to spin themselves, and then it turns out you had thought of it! But then you took me by complete surprise.
Sure, there are a couple of assets missing textures, the light leaks at distance. But I think any of the games small issues are so superficial I didn't care in the slightest.
I think there are two things I would change, or at least changes that I would prefer:
All in all, I really enjoyed this greatly. I hope you come back to it, and I look forward to playing it if you do choose to update it. Thank you very much.
This is one of the more creative interpretations of the theme I've played ! I think there was a little too much downtime between each level and I was kinda just jumping around half-listening bc I beat the level in like 2 seconds :') maybe some more room to walk in ? I also got stuck in the dark room because I got too into the Stanley Parable comparison and thought it was similar instead of actually understanding wait there's a mechanic to this game lol. The voice was also pretty quiet for me, I was talking to my friends and I had to deafen or I wasn't able to hear it. The narrator was still pretty funny though and I felt EVIL solving everything in 2s. Also I died right at the end of the platformer level and I was sooo mad but not your fault I'm bad.
Great work ! This could definitely go places :D loved the meta stuff too even if I got confused haha
I started playing and I’m interested. But first I didn’t have the mouse, so I had to go get it. Then because of being with family I wasn’t able to listen to the narrator properly, and would have needed subtitles to follow what they said. I am curious and would like to continue, but I am letting you know of these two barriers. It would be nice to have an alternative control to spin the wheel, and an alternative sensory way to get the audio information (visually, instead of by audio - with the closed captions).
Great game! I would have liked to be able to be able to move around more for a lot of the rooms, since there is a lot of downtime if you want to listen to all the audio, but the writing and voice acting is awesome.
Gotta love a good Stanley Parable like game, would that be a Stanleylike? Either way this game is sick and I love the premise and execution. It's simple, as all of these games should be, and is carried well by the narrator and the story that is played along though them. I especially love how the game forces the player to leave and reopen it multiple times, as it really makes the meta game narrative hit harder when the player is forced to act outside of the project itself. Great stuff with some great work behind it! :D
This was a delightful experience, I love games that do meta stuff, and - as we discussed on discord, and without giving any spoilers - the ending is very clever. :) <3
Peak game, gave the stanley parable vibes. Whenever I thought it ended, it gave more. It was a creative game.
I didn’t get to play very far unfortunately since the game didn’t seem to register my mouse movements I could not interact with the spinner. I also don’t know if I was supposed to be able to interact with setting the clock but that also did seem dead. Now the reason I might have had problems is that I ran the exe through wine inside a arch linux quemu vm on an arch linux host but I’ve had success running games before this jam.
I like the tone of what i got to see. I got very frustrated that i couldn’t turn around and was about to complain that i needed to be able to do that, but it might have been a compatibility issue rather than intentional design.
I would have liked to see where the game went, I imagine quite a far from the humble start level(s).
The voice was super quiet for me and i had to max all volume settings just to hear something.
But i liked what i got to see and I’m just gonna extrapolate from that and imagine all sorts of things.
This game is not working on Wine. It supports only Windows. Every person who tried it on Wine had problems, unfortunately. It works on Linux only if you run it with Steam and Proton, but officially the game is not supported on Linux..
This game runs without problems on Linux using Proton.
The easiest way to use it is adding the game on Steam via the Game > Add Non-Steam Game to library.
i didnt expect this game to be so deep, maybe winning isnt so important after all...
dont care spin spin spin
So, this will likely be the last game I play for this jam. I've played quite a few by this point. Many games, many mechanics, many spins to win. And I have to say, this probably ranks among my favorites. I haven't played the Stanley Parable but have heard much about it, and this made me feel like I'd enjoy that game quite a bit too. This was fun and innovative and unexpected and actually such a pleasure to end the jam with. Glad you encouraged me to play! I hope you continue to develop it because you'll make a lot of people happy. :)
A banger and I found it very relatable in its commentary on game design and the illusion of player choice, very well executed, not overtly in your face but comes off naturally through the gameplay loop. really well thought out, good job
What a game.. Truly I have spun 2 win in ways I couldn't have asked for - try this out, don't get spoiled and enjoy :).
Absolutely amazing! I had a lot of fun playing around with the narrator, we need more stanely parable - likes in the current era of gaming. I can't say much more besides give me 3 sequels!
Man, I don't know how to comment on this game without spoiling anything. This game is probably one of the best games experienced blind! Really awesome premise, humour and also just the simplicity of gameplay overall. Stanley Parable kind of humour is really up my alley here and I enjoyed it to the fullest! I have huge respect for your efforts for the game!Visuals although simple, its very effective and audio is also awesome! I would also say its quite serious! Awesome work!
I felt like I was playing an official Stanley Parable game. Very clever! Very entertaining and great humor! I have no suggestions for you aside from do this more. You nailed the narration and the variety was great. The platforming parts were actually difficult and not push-over. Awesome game. One of my favorites I've seen after rating over 100 games. Be proud! You absolutely crushed this!
Thank you so much! This means so much to me. I have already started to work on expanding this game beyond just this jam, and I hope to be able to make a version that will deserve a Steam release eventually. It's probably the project I'm most proud of to this day, all thanks to these amazing reviews.
I've recommended it to friends outside the jam who were fans of Stanley Parable as well. I think you got something great to run with. Good luck! Hope to see what else you come up with!
