The setting and gameplay are so cool. The concept of a rock, paper scissors death game is fun and unique. I haven't played a game made with MZ3D before, so seeing how it works was also quite interesting.
Thank you for playing! Yeah it's my first released game using MZ3D and it's a pretty cool way to completely change the feel of your game. I recommend!
Rosham Prison
First Impressions:
Rock Paper Scissors. MZ3D. Simple and Effective. What a Twist.
Mini Essay:
To begin with the sound track is fire! Mild spoiler -- that elevator music is just criminal lol. -- It was just the right amount of hype and eerie to level up the atmosphere.
Yours is the first game where the audio was balanced enough that I could play it without changing the SE to 20%.
The menu UI is clean and simple with everything it needed to accomplish provided.
I’m very impressed by the way you created tells for pixel characters.
The narrative is also clean and simple but given depth by the information fetch quests.
When I was getting closer to the ending my reactions went, “I saw that coming.”, “Whoa, a twist.”, “Whoa! A BIGGER twist!” I do love the illusion of choice.
The concept of life or death Rock Paper Scissors is something I’ve seen before but this is very well designed to work with the enviroment provided.
That said (this is probably a me thing) the movement style and dark square hallways made me a bit dizzy. I also get dizzy playing vanilla mincraft. If you make an upgraded or edited version I would consider making the map sizes a bit smaller to increase the tension and also for more ease of navigation.
Upgrading the mouse camera control can also help with this. The maps being so large with dark halls in the distance and very little visible variation made pathing less straighforward than the gameplay, or maybe too straightforward since turning was more difficult.
Great Game, Super Fun and Replayable.
Thanks so much for the in-depth review!
Yeah we were super stoked to have Daver the Dave do the soundtrack so thank you for noticing how good it is.
Balancing audio is important for me as it gets so annoying when playtesting haha
Coco did a great job with the art and getting those tells across!
This is my first project using MZ3D so my map-making definitely needs some work. I would have liked more landmarks or using sprites to identify the rooms better.
For the mouse control I wasn't sure how to change the default sensitivity so I tried to just prompt the player instead. If you were playing with the default setting I can see why you had a hard time!
Thank you again, I'll try to stream your game this arvo :)
I enjoyed the story and worldbuilding! The ideas here are wild and very creative. Had a great time, good job!
(edit: removed ending comment to avoid spoiling. Enjoyed the end nonetheless!!)
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Really nice unique gameplay, the soundtrack wasn't a bother at all (that's actually a rarity lol). I loved the 3d aspect of it.
Thank you for playing! Yeah we were very happy with how the soundtrack turned out.
loved this! very unique!
Thanks for playing!
I liked the unique gameplay and well-done sprite work. It also had a good idea for the ending, albeit it did feel like it was kind've out of nowhere
Thank you for playing the game! Yeah the ending was tricky to fit in smoothly, but we went for it anyway haha
