I think my new best score (timed mode) is 6910. Let me know if you beat it! There’s definitely a big element of luck.

My best score for timed :) It's a cute game, but I found it impossible to create a higher tier than 3. I like the art, it's charming!

I got 7360 in untimed. I do think it jumps a bit too much in difficulty because design wise it's like it's adding colors each time you get a merge, since tiles of the same color but different tier can't be merged. When you get enough merges it's like you're playing with 12 colors.

Nice job, you got the best score I’ve seen yet. You’re right that the game isn’t really balanced around untimed mode. Since there’s no way to clear tiles, space will eventually fill up and force a game-over. In my initial plan, I wanted to let the player draw a match as a loop clear every tile that was looped around. I didn’t get around it, partly due to time, but partly because I enjoyed the challenge of low space. It’s not as big of a problem in timed mode, where you usually can’t get past tier 3-4.

I think the best strategy, if you want to play for score in endless mode, would be to focus on a single color which you try to build a high-tier chain for, while other pieces, you try to match as longer chains to keep out of the way. But this is easier said than done. I may need to experiment with less colors for a post-jam version.

Haha, Playing timed I got better score than unlimited

This is really good! My best score in timed mode was 4880, and I wasn't quite able to make a tier 4 gem. In unlimited mode I couldn't get much further, only 5110.

I think my only criticism is that I wish I could start drawing my next merge during the clear animation of the last one, sometimes I had a combo in mind and felt like my inputs were being eaten.

Thanks for playing! I think you might be better than me at the game. I never could reach Tier 4 in my own timed plays as well. It gets quite tricky to keep space clean once you start getting into tier 3.

Good suggestion on pre-pathing. I thought about adding it as well, but cut for time.

Simple, well polished, fun (but not my type of game), appealing sounds and visual effects could improve the overall experience, but in a Jam time is cruel. Nice work!

I really like to se the wizard on top of the cauldron and the game is fun, would be nice to have some cool sounds, also im super bad at the game :(

Developer

Thank you! Sounds were added very last minute, I only put three in, ha. I thought about adding a witch’s laugh if you get a big score, but didn’t get around to recording myself. :]

It sounds like the game is pretty hard for a lot of people.

Fun game, but it feels a bit unfair, understandable though since match 3 games are hard to balance

I like really difficult games, so I think it shows up in my game. I like having a super tight space, where you need to be very careful to leave space open for tiles. But I may have gone overboard. I wonder if downgrading to only three colors could be better for difficulty.

cool game. i like the idea but the timed mode doesnt really change the experience, i ended up losing in both modes under 2 minutes so the timer didnt really matter for timed besides that i really liked the mobile game like merge factor

Developer(+1)

For me, I try to think my moves out, so I run out of time on timed mode. I like to go for long, high-tier chains, so I try to clear space and make upgraded orbs. Thanks for playing!

Very good game. Simple, intuitive. I just miss a little music in the background.
