Fun little game. I like several mechanics in the game, such as how the pineapples spawn faster and faster, how you get weighted down when overloaded, and the little boost you get when jumping on the bridge on the side.
The art style is pretty good. It's very simple, as in the pineapple is pretty much just two rectangles on top of each other, but it's still very nice to look at. It gets the point across.
Unfortunately I don't really see the connection with the theme, apart from collecting pineapples in succession. Maybe you can make collecting pineapples in a row more rewarding, such as giving an additional, temporary speed boost after throwing them from the bridges. The more pineapple you throw, the faster the speed boost is. I think that sounds fun.
Unfortunately again, no audio. I think at least some BGM and a bunch of SFX is needed. I can think of adding SFX for jumping, collecting pineapples, and throwing them from the bridges. For the BGM, maybe something calming would fit.
Quite a nice idea! Thank you :)
The follow-up on the theme involves two mechanics: raising “difficulty” – the more you score, the more pineapples spawn – and the “overload” mechanic – the more you catch, the slower you get. This is my view of a chain reaction, but as I check some games, like Sparkfall, there are plenty of clearer implementations of the theme’s idea!
And I’ll work on audio when I’ve completely healed from my cold. Yeah, it is one of the criteria of the jam, but unfortunately I had no time to implement it :(
I am flattered by the amount of things you noticed! Thanks for the review :)
Ah okay, the connection with the theme makes more sense now. Thanks for clarifying, and get well soon with your cold!
And personally, I’m proud of my chosen art style for a prototype – thank you for the warm words about it <3 It’s a bunch of Placeholder Textures (a Godot thingy) which I modulate with a shader material. (I completely forgot that this property is already implemented in sprite objects… yeah.)
Love the absurdity of catching pineapples. Where are they falling from?
Ha-ha-ha! Thanks XD But unfortunately, there’s no narrative explanation of where the pineapples come from :( Hope one day a red square will tell me. He definitely knows more about them!
It's a cool idea! I liked that you get slower when you get more and more overloaded. Good job!
Thank you! I’m glad that you enjoyed my prototype :)
I was confused at first how to move and what to do. You should either write controls on the description or tell it in the game, cuz I tried catching pineapples with my mouse.
Yeah, this needs some sprites and sounds. But the gameplay is fun! A simple time-killer. The background is cool!
Thanks! I’m happy that you gave me a clearer vision of what the game is :) At first, I categorized it as an arcade, but “time-killer” suits it much better! And I’ve added an explanation to the itch.io page of the game. After the jam, I’m considering adding it in‑game as well :)
Cool game, and I liked the particle effects! Could use some sounds, and maybe some variation in the gameplay as things advanced, but good job!
Thank you! I actually planned to include mechanics like bridge cooldowns, different fruit types with unique effects, and a “cooling down” system for missed fruits (like reducing the missed count by 1 every 5 seconds), and, of course, actual assets and not silent with shader-ed placeholders XD. Also, you were supposed to score points only by throwing fruits from the bridges. Unfortunately, I caught a cold right at the start of the jam, so I had to focus on recovering rather than developing. :( But I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed the prototype! :D
