I have a few suggestions, and I think it may be because I've made games that looked and felt almost exactly like this when I first tried making games as a hobby.
For the character, it feels a bit stiff and, as others have pointed out, would really benefit from some "coyote time". I'd also recommend adding a little bit of velocity or drag to the horizontal movement to make it feel a bit more organic. You want the response times to player input to FEEL instant, but they don't always have to be Exactly instant. Otherwise, things become pixel perfect, which a lot of my old games suffered from. It helps a lot when the player needs to make small movements.
Another thing I'd suggest is to put some decoration in the background, even if it's as simple as a couple layers of clouds. Having multiple layers can increase the perception of movement in the environment as it creates depth. It also helps the levels feel less flat. You only have a few platforms here and there so most of the screen is empty.
I was initially impressed with the title screen and thought it looked good, but the rest of the game felt like it didn't match that artistic quality. When it comes to menus and UI, it's important to have responsive interfaces. When I hover over a button, it should respond to the player either visually or auditorily, or both preferably. For example, many games have a slight click or tick sound and change color or size just a bit when hovered over or clicked on. It really helps polish the game.
I also would suggest changing the music in the level. It felt a bit too sharp and discordant for little guy climbing through the clouds. Using a lot of strings or synthetic pads might be a good way to create an atmosphere that reflects the visual tone of the game.
I hope this gives you some helpful perspective, and I wish you luck as you continue your gamedev journey!
i like the game its just the jumping feels a bit werid for me but idk
I liked the game and i have some feedback :
- First the text in the UI and the guide to the player text was really small and hard to read, maybe u can make it easier to read if u scale it up
-The jumping from the platform to platform is a bit harsh, i think if u added a little more collider like what celeste did like even if u missed it for bit u can still jump
overall nice game
very nice and cute games, i do have some feedbacks tho.
- from what I saw, you probably placed the shard counter text in the player in godot, and that's why its moving with the player. i think you could've just placed it where u wanted on screen and it will just stay there.
- as a platformer, this game is in dire need of "Cayote Time" (letting the player be able to jump a few frames after walking off a platform), it will make the game feel much better.
other than that, very nice game, i loved the visuals and the music and the player! good luck with your next games!
really like the art done, and the use of colours, and i really love the concept, really like the focus on exploration, its just very fun to explore the level, one fix id like the game to have is cayote time, it dosent feel like its in the game but if it is its quite weak, and jump buffering aswell, very calm feeling game, really liked the game!
Fum simple platformer :) The little fella is very swag and the colour scheme is very pretty. I would suggest making the jump controls a little tighter and making the music loop longer :) And maybe add some decorative puffing around the platforms to make them a little cloudy-er lol
I loved that the cloud had sneakers. It’s such a funny concept! It feels like a character straight out of Adventure Time!
It’s a cute and simple game, and it does that really well! Great work :)
Very pretty game - I was gonna talk about coyote time but looks like comments have already discussed it. Another similar jump related mechanic I would look into would be Autojump. Essentially, with standard jump controls you would need to press jump as soon as you land in order to jump again in succession. However, if you're early, nothing happens, which can make control feel difficult at times. How i would go about implementing autojump is by starting a timer if the player presses jump and is not on the ground, and if the player touches the ground before the timer goes off, jump again. Its one of those things that you dont really think about, but makes games feel much more polished.
Aesthetically very pretty game. Well done!
I liked the uniqe character design and the overall feel.
It's nice how the instructions are incorporated into the level, although some of the labels are very small.
Overall, a good experience. I would have kept playing if there were more levels.
i really like setting art and music used :) the ui could be a lot bigger but it is really cute
I definitely agree with unn1kuttan about doing some research on coyote time. I think unrelated there's a bit of a bug where jump doesn't always work while running so there was quite a few avoidable deaths
Lastly if you guys are interested in continuing this game, I would recommend also having the camera follow the player as a separate node in the scene as opposed it being a child of player, that way it moves more smoothly and isn't too sensitive to player movement
The presentation is really good, loved the art work and the music fits well. I think if you guys implement coyote time, you can improve the gameplay by a lot with just this.
lgbt propaganda!!!!!
The character concept and overall atmosphere are very original. The music fits the game well, and the color palette is perfect. I’m not sure why, but there’s something about it that feels really relaxing.
This is a great result for your first game jam. Congratulations on finishing it!
The game is very nice, appealing. the vibe is interesting. Although, the slopes and sizes could be different.
Great audio, great visuals, very relaxing game. I like it, nice nostalgic platformer.
One piece of feedback is the running down the slope and jumping could be slightly more forgiving.
Overall a really good game, with an excellent atmosphere :) Best of luck in the Jam :D
Pretty cozy game, made want to grab a cup of cafe and sit on my balcony, to watch the stars, I want to play an extended version that goes for hours!
Chill vibes, I enjoyed being a cloud, I don't know why I was a cloud, I don't know why I had shoes, but I'm in.
This is a great start for your first game! I did feel the movement/platforming felt a little off, I often didn't jump when I was expecting to be able to jump, can't quite put my finger on it maybe the "can jump" flag being a little delayed when landing while holding directions? A bit of coyote time is always welcome in platformers too.
Keep it up, look forward to seeing your future games!
The player character is quite original and the game is coherent with itself. I think the guide text works well. Platforming is solid, though personally I could use a bit more coyote time. The menu art is peak and the music fits very well. Overall nice little game!
Cute tiny game. Loved the art, the colors and the music. Well done!
thank you! :D
Cute little game!I could not read the text at some places but I like the music and color pallete.
