A really cool concept that just needed to be cooked a little longer! Understandable considering the 72hr time restraint, but i would love a full version of this one day! I love the art style and the shader for Ozzy was really cool!
Complaints:
Font is a pretty hard to read, i couldn't even understand the dogs name until near the end; i thought it was Dzzy.
Ozzy was a bit hard to control at times, i thought it was only mouse based, not realizing for awhile that he also reacted to WASD
I failed the first event where the dog tries to kill the man because i couldnt not tell what i needed to do before the bar was already halfway gone, most likely because of the font
Failed the last one twice and had to play the entire thing over. Really glad the difficulty lowered
I was actually pretty invested in the story but the ending was very anti-climatic
Thanks for playing! And this awesome write-up. All of that makes sense. I really wanted checkpoints but never got to them. And yeah, I wanted more of a thing going on at the end, like a true boss fight. Most pain points point to me over-scoping lol. Still, thanks for the input; I can hopefully improve for the next one.
Interesting take chain reaction! Looks like a neat little game
Small remark: "Press any button to start" should include mouse buttons :)
I wanted to, but I have sliders on that screen. I guess maybe I could determine if one is focused. Or just go with a play button.
Thanks for playing!
First thing I notice is the chain loading bar. Pretty neat. Though the compiling shaders part almost crashed my browser lol.
First thing first, the art style is gorgeous. I really like the low poly, PS1 style look. I also like the effect for the dog and the light.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward. Some quick time events, and a lot of walking. One thing I notice is that I seem to be drifting to the right when walking. I'm not sure if it's intended or not.
The audio work in the game is also very nice. I like the ambience and the sound effects. They sound very polished.
I don't really understand the correlation between the game and the theme, apart from the "chain" part. From what I've read on the other comments, I guess it make sense to have the "chain" "react" with things. It's an interesting take on the theme.
Regarding the drift to the right, I don't notice it, but a plugged-in gamepad with drift might influence it even when using the keyboard, but I am just guessing.
Yeah, theme-wise it's the light reacting with the chain and dog, but yeah, not conventional; totally understand.
Thanks for playing and the great feedback!
Sorry, I think I wasn't clear about the drifting to the right. It was not the movement that's drifting to the right, but rather the camera/view is slowly turning to the right. Also I don't have a gamepad on me, so I don't think that's the problem.
I tried the game again and it's still happening. Though if I press the ESC button, it suddenly stops drifting. I can still walk and look around. It only starts drifting when I focus on the game again by clicking the screen.
After further testing, it seems like the issue only occurs when I don't enter fullscreen mode.
oh ok weird. I don't see my view drifting in full screen, or not. Thanks for taking the time to look further though.
Nice take on the theme! Don’t think I’ve ever played a haunted dog walking game before.
Is the difficulty of the chain pulling mini game tied to the wraiths? During my first attempt I failed the final encounter with the difficulty at 100% and I noticed that I missed one of the wraiths that spawned behind me. In my second playtrhough I made sure to kill all the wraiths and the difficulty was like 67%
Yeah, so the dog being in the darkness and the wraiths chanting both make the minigame tougher. I wish I had added more to indicate, but time got the better of me. Thanks for playing!
Really cool game, and pretty cool take on the theme too! Visually it's really nice, I really like the hands especially, the effect with the shadow dog is really cool too, and the general screen shader looks good! I do think the trees could of been textured though, just to match the ground texture and the sorta psx artstyle a bit more. The minigame was cool, and was both fair in difficulty and fun! It took me a moment to realize two of the chanting people had spawned, as there was not much of an indicator that there was another one, wasn't much of an issue though. Overall a cool game, really like the creative take. Great work!
Rad, thanks for playing and the kind words! Yeah, that second wraith was brutal. I've learned, after watching a few plays. That balance is always so hard in such a short jam.
I like the graphics very much
Glad you liked them! Thanks for playing!
Very good game!!!
Thank you for playing!
The atmosphere is spot. was not expecting this kind of game from this theme but it works nicely. Great job.
Thank you for playing!!
cool experience, the light shader seems to be broken in my machine (Chrome, Mac OS) but i got to try it in different machine. the atmosphere, creepy feelings were delivered well. The visual and audio complement that awesome-ly.
Whoa, that does look bad on Mac Chrome. It works on Mac Firefox, weirdly enough. I should have tested that.
Thanks for trying it out; sorry for the trouble!
Very cool game! Great Atmosphere!
I had a problem with figuring out that you have to light your flashlight on the evil man. Only on my third or fouth try I noticed the clue in the corner. For being so important, I think it's not noticable enough. It shows up only for a couple of seconds, in a moment when you are startled by the man appearing. I think it should pop up in the middle of the screen or something. Also resetting the whole game on failure is pretty brutal.
Anyways, I think It's a great game! Cool dog.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! And yeah, I needed a few things like better hints and checkpoints for sure! I let the time get me.
the shader on the dog is really cool, but there is no chain reaction, it also spook me one time
Thanks! It's a stencil shader on the dog. And regarding the theme, it's a different spin on the theme for sure, but the chain reacts to the light. But up to you if that qualifies, haha.
Cool game! I didn't even think about implementing chain reaction using an actual chain, but you managed to do it well. Also pretty spooky won't lie.
Thank you for playing! Haha, yeah, I decided to go literal.
What a cool game! Love the art style; great atmosphere, and the effect when moving the light away from Ozzy was awesome. The sound design was also great; you got a little jump out of me at the start when the guy first appears! The chanting sound was also really cool. I had a little bit of trouble figuring out the movement at first, but not bad once you get the hang of it. I also like way the difficulty of the minigame ratchets up if you're not quick to dispatch the bad guys.
This was a really neat experience. Great work!
Thanks for playing and the kind words! Yeah, the leash could probably have used a little more iteration, but yeah, time.
i always knew that all dogs are skinwalkers
As a certified dog dad, yes.
I like the art style so much , the gameplay is smooth and nice , Great Job !
Thanks for playing!!
I like out of the box interpretations of the theme. The audio is really spooky and I get jumpscared easily so when creepy music first started playing, I looked away from the text so I didn't really understand what was going on when the wizards showed up.
I really wanted to have some voice-overs, but I never got to it. Thanks for playing!
Super atmospheric game! Brightness adjustment would be helpful.
Oooh that would have been a great idea, shoot. Thanks for playing!
Very unique idea! I absolutely love the visuals. Could have had a slightly longer intro to really build that emotional connection to Ozzy before putting him in danger. The mechanics of the leash and pushing/pulling him along worked really well
Yeah, that would have been smart! Thank you for the input and playing!
Great eerie mood -- the visuals are great, as is the audio. Cool shader work, nice scares, unusual concept... I like it a lot!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!
Man I genuinely wanted to play the game, the visuals are so good. My browser just crashes immediately after a couple of minutes lmao. You should also give a .exe yk, so that we can play on pc easily
I have now uploaded an EXE after getting confirmation that it was ok to upload the unmodified game in exe form! Hope that helps, and thanks for letting me know.
Alr bet, Imma play it right now XD
I had to reupload. I noticed I missed a folder when zipping. Sorry if you experienced that!
I didn't have time yesterday and the whole of today. I will play it tonight. Again, great game
