Keep the Spark Alive

Days keep passing by, it’s all just work , work and work. Life has been nothing but paying bills, filling sheets and repeating the cycle again and again. The game dev that once was full of life and spark has started to fade away with time. He no longer feels the joy in making games, his daily life is all about earning enough to keep the food on the table. He no longer remembers the dreams he once had while he was a kid……dream to make games that will be remembered. Slowly he’s been burnt out and the spark is almost diminished by the rejections of the world. No one but you can save him before he completely turns into a machine. Help his inner child to bring back the spark again.

(This is meant to show that there's still hope for the game devs who still face rejections and yet every day wake up and pursue their dreams - the spark is kinda symbol and moreover the spark is held in a vacuum tube that shows you the way )

Loved it! The MC is really cool and the gameplay was fun. I don't know why, but it has a similar vibe of little big planet.

Developer

I hav'nt played the game but I did take a look , yes it does feels its of similar vibe, I might try playing it <3

OMG, this game is so good! I can totally picture it as a full release, it's already so addictive. I really enjoyed the level mechanics, the music fits the game perfectly, and the graphics are very nice. I also loved the way you recharge your spark, and the glass mechanic to protect it is such a great idea. It actually reminded me of the glass dome protecting the rose in The Little Prince, which I thought was a really nice touch. The lighting is beautiful as well.

I also loved the little animation at the end, haha!

I really hope you'll continue working on this project and turn it into a full game because it has so much potential. I could easily see it becoming a polished, high-quality game. Amazing work!

awww this comment just made my day and motivated me to make better games in future and yes we too decided that maybe we will polish and publish the complete game, it's just that we dont get time much hence we took in a short jam to see if we can actually make something and  kinda overwhelmed by the responses, thank you again for taking out time to play and sharing the kind words hoping to see more of your game in future too <3

Fun mechanic with the spark charging! It keeps a sort of time pressure, but it's also not like a demoralizing like a regular stopwatch or timer.

TY for playing our game, btw i really loved your games mechanic where it rewinds on a film , i would really love to know how you did it and if you can give direction how to recreate something like that , its really fascinates me  and its a really cool mechanic.

Glad you like it. Actually it wasn't me who implemented it, it was my teammate Apy, but he described it as:

- take screenshot of first scene and second scene
- add them into a little transparent film reel png clipart
- then scroll

It scrolls up or down based on whether you're progressing to next level or rewinding to beginning of the same level. The scrolling is just done by translating the png up or down in code.

Developer

woahhh that's such a cool way for checkpoint system <3

Developer

xD haha ikr?

Really nice! The movement feels nice and smooth and the animations are amazing for such a short jam. I love how the boss looks.

Developer

that means alot, plus never expected I would be making characters because characters scare me the most because of rigging and optimization and all that so tysm for noticing it ^^

LOL, this art is cute.  I liked the music and the models, the history is cute too. The movement is a bit strange, as if the character were somewhat slippery, but, despite that it was fun to play!

lol my team members still makin fun of me for that thumbnail ngl πŸ˜‚ they like why that lamp gotta sniff his butt or something xD but thanks alot for playing the game ^^

I really loved the character model the boss fight at the end reminded me a lot of it takes 2!

Developer

haha xD yea you are right I was kinda inspired by it takes two vacuum boss but went with a computer robo kinda boss to make it relatable to the lore and thank you for the compliments and playing the game <3

Interesting spin on the theming of the jam! You did a great job at introducing the hazards and then letting the player run free for a bit. There was some issues of readability on where exactly some obstacles and attacks would be active but I could see a lot of potential for interesting gameplay segments using the spark mechanic that you implemented.

Developer

yes yes true indeed, it was done intentionally to keep it bit more challenging but I will keep this noted for future update maybe and tysm for playing the game and probably even after jam ends maybe I'll update the levels with proper props and everything we planned but due to time constraints this is all we put together and tried to make all assets ourselves 😭

A really cool take on the theme, and the gameplay was a lot of fun. The boss fight was a really nice surprise too!

Developer

Yay! glad you liked it we actually planned and implement it on the last hour , I guess the efforts paid off ^^ tysm for playing the game <3
