Scale it, or fail trying!

How does your game incorporate the theme?
I took the theme to imply scale, in the sense of scaling a wall, or surface. Pixel Climber is just that - you're attempting to scale the terrain and reach the goal at the end.

Also bonus point, for the sheer *scale* of the task ahead ! I enjoyed the level design on this one quite a lot, so I made a nice and large map! Enjoy!!

Did you use any sort of AI during the development of your submission?

No

Challenging platformer!

Submitted

Looked promising, but couldn't play since I have a high resolution display, everything was tiny and I could see like half the map at once.

Developer

Hey, thankyou for trying it!!

The high display issue is something I found out about after the submission deadline, I have a version which addresses it.. check back once the judging period is over and the latest fixes are out!!

Thank you!! I am glad you enjoyed it. Only Up and Getting Over It were absolutely big inspirations for this project!

Didn't expect the first submission I played to be a rage game lol

Very nice atmosphere, and I like the shadow you put underneath the tiles.  Gave some depth to the simple scene.

Not a fan of the portals.  I went out of my way to get to one thinking it'd be something useful only to be teleported back down and have to replay a bunch.  And the tiles vertically above each other are incredibly difficult to work with to a point where it stops being fun for me.  Of course the challenge is the point, but it feels more like it's challenging because it doesn't control as well as I want (re: no coyote time) rather than the level design itself.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and leaving feedback! I am sorry you landed on a rage game first, of all the other submissions!

Coyote time is a common request, and something I did try to implement but struggled to find a time delay which didnt immediately make the level trivial to complete. It is something I am considering spending more time on once the judging period is over.

I hope overall it wasnt too rage-inducing!!

Geeze, and I thought we made a tough platformer... I wish I could zoom in more, on a 4k display everything is so tiny, and desperately needs coyote time, and if the little yellow treasure boxes are supposed to do something I couldn't figure it out... but other than that, I'm kinda fond of it, controls feel nice.

Also Grubbins is clearly the best, I will not tolerate this character selection screen Grubbins slander.

Developer

Thank you for your comment and time spent playing my game!!

I think the 4k display is a very useful note - I don't have one myself and none of my friends do.. so that feedback was never given before! I may look to add a scrollable zoom in/out feature after the judging, to work better on higher res displays.

I think I have also overlooked communicating that the intention was a rage-game, so the yellow chests aren't intended to do anything, I hadn't intended for the player to be able to even reach any and instead just be an extra level of rage-baiting, that they could be seen and might have something good inside and then never be able to reach.. but I think after a round or two of character tuning, I unintentionally made it possible for a few of them to be reached - so that's something I need to fix too! ;)

I will check your game out today, and leave you a comment too!

If it weren't for the note about the scale, I wouldn't have understood how the theme was implemented. But the game itself is interesting, and I liked the music.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your comment! I will admit, I struggled for a good while after the theme was announced trying to scramble together any idea at all on what to make - and could definitely have been done better. I am glad you liked to overall game though!

I'll check yours out today too !

Man I'm terrible at platformers, but this was so clever! You should be proud of this submission!

This is an incredible entry in the context of this game jam, utilizing simple mechanics and detailed level design. This isn't my type of game at all, but I can happily say I reached the top after 1205.10 seconds and I loved the experience. Great atmosphere and humor as well! Well done!

Developer

Thank you for the comment! I am very pleased to hear you managed to complete it, and invested as much time as you did to do so!!

I'll check out your game today!! :)
