You might be McFluff’s competitor for best game of all time! I was expecting a shitposty game based on the cover art, but I was surprised to realise, this is actually sick! Everything feels so well made, I really like the gameplay loop. It’s such a good idea!!, this thing was super fun and addictive!!

I am very glad you added a saving system for the scores, I couldn’t unlock everything in just one session, but I’ll definitely come back to discover everything!!

You were joking all the time about being the jam’s winner, but I ACTUALLY really like this! It wouldn’t be surprising if this ended up top 10!! Amazing job!!!

The scribble stick figure art is funny. The fisherman in sunglasses on the little wooden boat and the big green fish on the title screen have a proper notebook doodle charm. The HUD is informative in the right way too: Depth 167m/800m, Line, Reach 100m, and the vertical depth bar on the right showing where you are. You really feel the descent toward 800m. Having a shop and a target system suggests a real progression loop rather than random fishing, and controlling everything with mouse movement (holding to reel up) is a good relaxing choice. My problem: I spent a long time diving and my money stayed at $0. It never became clear HOW you catch a fish. I passed the hook over plenty of them and nothing happened. A "hooked!" feedback or a visible catch area on the hook would fix that immediately. The panel also said "No target" the whole time and I never figured out how to pick one. One more thing worth checking: around 344m some untextured blue, orange and green rectangles appeared in the middle of the screen. They look like placeholders that made it into the build. The skeleton is there (depth, shop, progression). It just needs to communicate the core mechanic.

ANOTHER FISHING GAME!!! Interesting mechanics. I'd like to see the graphics get polished up. **BEST** music i have heard in the jam so far. Well done.

Thank you so much! Haha I accidently spent most of my asset creation time composing and had to make some compromises for time.

Nice game design. But why is the fish swimming backward?

Developer

I used all my art time composing the music!

I am not a huge fan personally but I believe that is more a personal preference thing. I like the Stardew-like fishing and I think the idea of dodging fish to get deeper is fun. The music is a blast as well, once again reminding me of Stardew Valley. I think adding the ability to expand the screen would be nice and maybe waiting to release the line again until input is given. I often found myself struggling to get the shop open because my line would hit a fish first. Overall I feel like you did well, congrats!

Haha i spent more time composing than i did programming. Glad you liked the music!

I'm a big fan of fishing games, this reminds me a bit of the old Club Penguin minigame. Earning money takes a bit too long early on though, which discouraged me from continuing for very long. The game window could have been bigger, too.
