Simple, sweet, straight to the point and a really fun game! nice work! i like that the bullets changed directions! really cool! One More Minute!!! by birdyowl

Developer

Much appreciated!

Submitted(+1)

basic and pretty clever take to the theme. like how you also add different direction of enemy attacks

Developer

Thank you, appreciate the play!

Punchy, simple but clever ! I liked the different modification of the side bullets are coming from, it was a bit hard to survive more than 30s (i'm bad)

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, it seems the game's a bit more challenging than anticipated, lol! I think the key is to abuse the crap out of the slowmo. That being said, I barely got 2 min in my best run :)

HA! this game reminds me of the old retro game freeway on Atari 2600 (i'm not old I promise lol)! so cool and such a cool twist with the gravity and contextualizing with being a time addict lmao great way of showing minimal assets and great presentation and good pacing to a good tutorial and a good twist to a good old classic is all we need to have some fun in this jam! thank you so much for this entry I giggled like a nerd it was so much fun.

Developer

Ah, Freeway! Damn, what a blast from the past! I'm not old either, I promise! Really appreciate the kind words and taking the time to play!

Not me slowing time down like a badass and then epicly crashing straight into the first crawling attacker…

The minimal and friendly aesthetic definitely intrigues and hides how hard but darn “unputdownable” this is! I kept coming back for more, even after telling myself “I suck at this, let’s stop” countless times!

I absolutely had a bop to the music though, it nails the atmosphere down perfectly!

Nicely executed! I had a lot of fun playing this!

Haha, dude, I know! Should have spent some time on smoothing the movement out. The player object felt a bit unwieldly when you slowmo'd. I guess a bit of acceleration / deceleration should have worked there. Glad you dug the tunes. Only managed do to a small loop because of time, but think it came out nicely in terms of not feeling too repetitive.

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing!!

Pretty basic, but a nice game overall. It clearly lacks cues, animations, smooth movement and transitions, maybe some effects. Main parts are there, but the feel of the game is not very strong. Slowmo adds a lot of depth, basically changing gameplay from surviving to a short feast on orange circles. Because slowmo becomes an essential part of a game, I think it needs more focus: louder and brighter cues on when it's refilled, maybe collectables to refill instantly or power-ups for temporary infinite slowmo, etc. Also game feels too difficult for a jam entry, most players won't be able to play for more than 1 minute. Despite all that, I enjoyed my time in the game, it has a complete and addicting gameplay loop, good job!

P.S. Also I encountered a strange bug where tutorial never ended and repeated again on pressing space. I reloaded game page and it worked fine on second try.

Indeed, I realised as I neared the deadline that the slow-down mechanic was quite a pivotal part of the gameplay. The  slowmo came in after I laid down the base collect and dodge game. Like the idea of pickups for instant refills!

The suggestion for an SFX cue when the meter is refilled again is great , seems so obvious now. Another thing I think is sorely needed is some kind of warning when the timer is nearing zero, so that player doesn't need constantly look up to check. In both cases, SFX cues would enrich the experience quite a bit.

Yeah, difficulty was another thing I struggled with. I barely got it over 2min and thought okay that might be a good jam duration. Didn't want to make it too easy so that it felt boring, and think I wanted to push people to rely a bit more on the slowmo. But I think, at the very least, a gradual build up of obstacle speed would have been a good and easy enough addition.

Will have to look into that tutorial bug, you're the first to mention in. Thanks for highlighting!

Thanks for playing and really appreciate the detailed feedback! Makes me amped to jump back into this post-jam and flesh out some of these suggestions.

That was the best interpretation of the theme I have seen so far, and the switching of the gravity/direction keeps a simple game more challenging. As others have said, the tutorial is very sleek and well done. I would have things ramp up a little... make it easy at first to get a feel for things, then get harder as you play more or keep the timer up. Otherwise, a really solid entry. Well done!

Developer

Ahh, super stoked you dig it! Really appreciate the kind words :)

Yeah, gradual progression was exactly one of the things I still wanted to get down, but got side tracked with balancing the frequency and strength health pickups in the last stretch. Took way longer than expected, and then my brain just couldn't handle any more lol.

Appreciate the play!

Man when the tutorial came up i was ready for a good experience and i got it. Really smooth and satisfying movement and the animation when the orange circles move is soo nice!

Developer

Yoo, appreciate it! Pretty stoked with the animation! Took quite a while of tinkering to get it right, so glad you liked it. And, damn, took ages to get that tutorial down.

Thanks for playing :)

Very sleek! The tutorial is quite elegant as well.

The gameplay has a very "one more try" energy to it, making me try more times than I'd originally planned (but also, I kept dying by running into things over and over, which made me think I could surely do better than that). My best run was only a couple of seconds over the 1 minute mark, which I imagine is not that great, ha

The controller support is nice, and I appreciated the little health pickups!

I'd have liked some more feedback about what happened when I lost (i.e. did I lose all my health, or did I run out of time?), but it's a minor gripe, really.

Also, the music is great, and the art style, while simple, looks quite polished!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!!

Yeah, I think maybe a bit of gradual build up in speed or just maybe a little less speed in general might have helped a bit. I also did feel like had trouble navigating the smaller, finer movements. I think my best run was just over two minutes, and I played it A LOT. So, just over 1 min is pretty decent and what I'd expect :)

Indeed, it does feel a bit discouraging when you're not sure why you lost, like you're not sure what to keep in mind for the next round.

Awesome, thanks for playing and providing feedback!

Nice banner and logo!
The tutorial was great.
The game was short and easy to follow. It was only short, because i was terrible.
Great game.

Developer(+1)

Much appreciated! Pretty chuffed with the banner myself :)

Yeah, I think average playtime is about 40 sec - 1min, so short is right on point, haha. I think I could have done a bit more balancing, or maybe a gradual increase in difficulty. So hard to tell sometimes when you design it 'cause you play it over and over and can't tell what's difficult or not anymore.

Thanks for feedback and playing!
