Really clever take on the "build a rocket out of random junk" concept I've seen a few times in the jam. I really like how the thrusters actually adapt to what direction they're rotated to for your movement controls.

It is very RNG heavy and the only consistent strategy seems like to just get a ton of thrusters and either plow through the entire area or get max maneuverability by having all four sides covered by rockets.

Even with that, however, the game has a short-yet-addictive gameplay loop and I kept trying to beat it until I did, my best score was 2200.

Developer(+1)

What are the other build a rocket games?

Submitted

"Some Assembly Required" and "Space Race"

Submitted(+1)

I really like the building part

This is brilliant! Enjoyed everything (but the 10-sec timer in the beginning, it's wayyy toooo shoooort given the rng with the parts).

Managed to get the package delivered with the thrusters-only build (even had 2 seconds left after the assembly), making through the last meters on naked core and sheer luck. Love to see the game WITHOUT TIMER after the jam ends lol.

P.S. The background music stopped midway on my last attempt.

P.P.S. Might be a good idea to let open the crates with a single mouse click&drag instead of clicking on every single one, but my struggles with the initial ship re-assembly were most probably due to playing on a laptop with a trackpad instead of a normal mouse.

Developer

Amazing, thanks. Def add timer options post jam

Submitted(+1)

this game was so hard for me until I read some comments talking about stacking thrusters and now I can reach the end very quickly and easily

don't know about the packages tho, I guess this is what happened irl too.. is this based on a true story?

Developer(+1)

The packages add a small amount of friction and panic as you scramble to find the parts you need, it fits with the theme.

It's easier if you open a bunch of crates before you start building.

IRL I don't think anyone built a rocket from exploded parts but there have been plenty of times where new rockets were made from spares and reused parts.

Nice game! It's a little difficult. I think it would be better if there were more than 10 seconds. Good job!

Developer(+1)

thanks, I don't know why I wanted to keep the 10 second count down, maybe it fits with the rocket launch theme (even though real rocket launch count downs are longer than 10 seconds)

It's actually more like 35 seconds cos each tick is 3.5 seconds

Fun and interesting concept, really difficult at the moment though, wish you could see the parts from the get go instead of having them boxed, or just have more time to actually build. But still really fun, well done!!

Submitted(+1)

This was hard :D so many time pressure to build something and there are so many connectors but little parts. Still enjoyed that! Give 20 seconds and more interesting additional parts!

Developer

thanks, more connectors give more points so they aren't completely useless

Submitted(+1)

The art is great, liked the concept as well, just wish there was more time to build.

Submitted(+1)

Love the concept! I agree with a lot of the other commenters that there wasn't enough time to build the ship I wanted to build. Otherwise it was a very interesting experience. Hope you can check out my game too!

Developer

will do!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool concept, i loved the idea of building a ship, really cool that you managed to implement that. and needing to build it in a time limit was intense! (as others mentiioned, maybe a bit too intense haha)

the controls didn't work for me in the travel phase unfortunately (could only move forward but not side to side). still really cool concept though, would love to see it develop further

We also used deepfold space generator art in our game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thanks, you only get control of the thrust that's pointed in that direction, to get side to side motion you need to rotate the thruster with Q and E. Check the video in the description.

Submitted(+1)

ah makes sense thanks, i was being dumb, i will try again :D

Submitted(+1)

Really cute little game! The problem is that you just don't have enough time to make an actual functional ship, I think either making the pieces not in boxes or giving the player slightly more time to build would really add to the game. This game has a ton of potential though!

Developer

yeah, lots of people have said the time is too short, another case of developer difficulty level

Submitted(+1)

Great idea. The gameplay fits the theme very well.

Submitted(+1)

I like the game loop. It was fun to try and stack on thrusters and lasers :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I liked the idea of building a ship with random parts and seeing how far it goes, and stacking thrusters were really fun

Submitted(+1)

i loved just putting a TON of thrusters into the ship to make it hyper fast.

Submitted(+1)

Cool! I really wanted to build something similar for the jam but had no idea how to actually implement it - you did a great job with this :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I was gonna add more parts and enemy types but glad I submitted something in time

Submitted(+1)

Really fun game! I liked how the building and flying phases connect. Once you understand the building system and that you can reveal parts before building, it’s really satisfying to make better rockets and see how far you can get. :)

My highscore was 1621.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! You're so close to the end!

Submitted(+1)

Tried again! This time I focused on building a faster rocket to reach the end quicker. But I still liked my first rocket more, being able to move freely and shoot the asteroids felt more fun. :)

New highscore: 1886

Developer(+1)

awesome! glad you gave it another go

Submitted(+1)

Great idea! Wish it had ~10 seconds extra to build the ship - you need to find lots of parts to make the ship good enough to fly!

Developer

thanks! I'll probably add a longer build time option post jam

Submitted(+1)

Great game. Interesting idea. But I wish I had more time to build my ship.

Developer

probably should have made the game easier, thanks for playing
