Great game! The art style and music are really nice and complement each other well. In terms of feedback, I would agree with one of the other comments saying that each enemy has too much health, the battles feel a bit drawn out. I also think adding some visual/audio cues that still out a bit more when the player manages to hit the correct note would also feel more satisfying and juicy.
Great job!
Simple concept, but very good and well executed!
Super neat attack and block system.
I have no complains.
Good work! :D
Quite fun despite how simple the concept is. I played it through the end. However, I wasn’t a fan of the flashing colors, and I do think the levels were too long for how slow the beat was. Other than that, the game felt like it lacked some oomph. Its hard to describe, but hitting the beat on time didn’t feel punchy enough. I’m not sure how exactly it can be improved, but if it felt more weighty then I think it’d have been even more fun to play. Regardless, I enjoyed, so nice work.
Aahahaha I really like the art style for this game! It's so goofy and charming! I had a hard time following what I was supposed to do even with the text tutorial. I thought you had to press space on every beat after the go instead of waiting until the nth beat, but once I figured out how it was supposed to work, it was fun! I like the different enemies have different beats. Great work!
I found it a little frustrating to figure things out being dropped in after several walls of text, but the opening otherwise is incredibly strong and it's a pretty dang cool concept with nice art to accompany it. Always exciting when there's clear effort put into proper character designs in jam games!
Thank you so much for the feedback and the very kind words!! We've heard quite a bit about how it was strange to figure out at first and it wasn't very intuitive, so if we decide to develop this further (which we would love hehe), that'll be a very big focus :)
This game has so much soul I love it, the noises are fantastic! Gumbo is my new spirit animal.
Gumbo declares you are his spirit animal too
Really love Gumbo haha. I have seen a couple of rhythm games so far, but this is the first one I have played that incorporates a countdown to a specific beat mechanic. Just wish there were more twists per enemy beyond the double beats and the rhythm changing
Thank you so much!! This was our first time making a rhythm game, and while we are very proud we definitely would like to add unique enemy mechanics and really spice up the gameplay when/if we develop the game further!! Essentially we totally agree with you lolol
INCREDIBLE ART. I wish I could erase my memory just to see this again!!
That means so much to me you have no idea!!! :)
A cool and really unique take on a turn based and rhythm game genre. The artwork is really great and the game feels smooth to play. Great work!
Funny little adventure :D
Really cool entry! I love the art and how there's a different song for each enemy! The magic attacks were definitely a fun way to spice up the gameplay too! I think the early stages could use a slightly faster beat? Having to defend just once on the 8th beat and waiting for that can be just a bit tedious, but nothing crazy. In the future I would love to see more levels with complex rhythms! Might not be for everyone but that would be really fun for those who like rhythm games!
Overall, really great game! I also loved the cutscenes at the beginning!
The art is SO GOOD. I am pretty bad at these types of games but I did get a few perfects.
Thank you so much!!! I had so much fun coming up with the characters and everything, so happy you enjoyed the game.
Hey, the idea is nice but I found the music and rhythm a bit repetitive and I was sooo disappointed to die ouf time-out after all the effort against the boss :'( (he had like 10% health left).
But the art and idea is nice, the game works well and I think I haven't seen another rhythm game yet in the jam so yeay !
OMG I forgot to remove the timeout from an earlier version im so sorry T-T I also think the magic blast was not explained well cause you probably should've done it a lot faster...my fault for failing to explain!!
Thank you so much for playing still, we really appreciate it and the nice comments :D
No worries I also made mistakes in my submission, I totally get it ! And your game is already fun as-is <3 The art is just so cool too *** (that's stars)
I love rhythm games so much, so this was great.
The enemies felt like they had a bit too much health though, so a level felt like it could drag just a bit too much. But this was awesome, I've been in the process of figuring out how to make a rhythm game in Godot and I'm still trying :) Great game!
Thank you so much!!! We definitely have a lot of balancing to do if we wanna develop this further, but we are so happy you enjoyed it and we very much appreciate every bit of feedback :)
nice
Took me a minute to get the hang of it. From the instructions I thought I had to click that many times after go. I loved the art! Well Done!
Excellent work! The music, visuals, and storytelling are all outstanding.
Thank you so much for your kind words!!! :)
I loved it.
spoiler

Also love the lil guy.. the uhhh idk what its called.. the garden gnome dude, yeah, that lil guy

He is gumbo and he is also very happy
also
"hello gumbo, welcome to the music dimension"
goes hard af
heavily inspired by
"hello peter welcome to fortnite"
omg i knew it.
A fun rhythm game, and a pretty creative use of the theme too. instead of there being some countdown or something that goes down, YOU have to count down, to count the number of beats, in order to block attacks and hit them.
It’s pretty fun, especially the last level.
Thank you so much :)
