Nice concept. I would've liked a better in-game indication of what I was doing and when I should skip or continue buying but I ended up reading the game's page in full and got it.

I love incremental so always a pleasure to finish one, this one was pretty cool, fit the theme well. 1h30 to finish it might be a bit too long for a jam ahah (or i'm just bad that a possibility too). Not enough different music for  a gameplay that long had to cut it after 20ish minute (normal for a jam tho).
I though that i needed to farm enough each phase to get a certain upgrade before the end of the timer to really 'win' but didn't see anything like that at least not with what i've buyed; If there nothing like that here, would be great to add it through a classic rebirth mechanic at the end of the timer which unlock lot of new node and combo to achieve a true end in like 5-6 hour.
Was fun, great job :D

This is really good. The 2nd incremental game in my life that I actually liked.
Max creativity points just for figuring out how to save your submission!
XD

Only thing I would like to see different is a tiny explanation somewhere (in-game) that the conveyor belt does not auto-fire without the upgrade.
Before I saw the second upgrade, further down the list, I assumed it was a bug.
The term "conveyor belt" rather than "queue" already sounds like it is moving on its on.

Other than that, no notes.
I'll stash it in my favourites box to finish another day.

Developer

Thank you, that is really high praise for a game jam submission :3

I originally called it queue, but I changed it because it felt a bit too programming coded ;p Though I have to admit, Conveyor is probably an even worse name for it and does not really fit what it does.

Out of curiosity, what is the first game?

Submitted(+1)

Interestingly, another GMTK game jam entry!
The rule seems to be 1 per year.
XD

The other incrementals I've played were either way too boring (nothing really going on), OR way too intense as a way of trying to overcompensate.
I remember a train one from last year, where there was just constant noise being spammed from like 5 or 6 different things.
It was supposed to make you feel like stuff was happening, I think, but it was just annoying!

Also queue is in the general language (at the shops, at the bank, etc.); but I appreciate you trying to avoid the programmer bias.
One of the puzzle games in this jam required knowledge of binary to clear the very first room.
I left a comment that was like "you realise that non-programmers will not be able to play this game?".

I always appreciate when the game includes a quick in game tutorial, so good job there.  The thing that got me stuck for a little bit at first, was that I didn't get any visual feedback when I clicked the green button, so I thought it didn't work.

Developer

Yeah, the lack of UI and sound effects does take a lot away from the experience. I just did not have enough time to refine everything since I was working on it solo.

I am glad the tutorial was well received though. In my previous jam, quite a few people mentioned the lack of one, so I made sure to include at least something to guide the player this time :3

Submitted(+1)

The audio sound was great and really moody, and the headliner character really stood out in terms of personality. I personally enjoyed the text at the beginning, even though it was an incremental, I still thought the story bits suited the vibe of the game really well. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you! I had a lot of fun writing Moira’s dialogue.

It could still use a lot more refining, as it does not quite balance being short, teaching the game mechanics, and showing off her personality.

I also hoped to do more with her throughout the game and give her a bit of character development in the way she interacts with the player. Sadly, that did not really pan out since I had to cut the game where I did.

Submitted(+1)

Not a bad incremental game.

The only thing is, there's too much text at the beginning :)

I think it could have been explained more simply.

Although, okay, we were guilty of that in ours too. Haha.

Sorry about the bug, good luck with the jam!

Developer

Yeah, I tried to do two things at once, establish the character and explain how the game works. In hindsight, it ended up being a lot to take in.

I should have spread it out a bit more and simplified some things.

Submitted(+1)

Overall presentation is good! Tried my best here but didn't make it too far, Guess Ill just wait a century to win!

Developer(+1)

Waiting is always an option :3 Hope to hear from you in 2126 then ;p

Submitted(+1)

I love these incremental games where yo eventually set up a system. Really nice job

Developer

Thank you :3 I am personally a sucker for them, but I get way too addicted to endless ones, so I have to stay away from anything that does not have a clear ending ;p

I enjoyed the interpretation of getting an absurdly long timer to count down. The pacing is well done and the tutorial are just about the right length to get us into the action. The audio and music complements the mechanics of the game well. It reminded me a lot of 'Cultist Simulator' when it came to  the design of the actions you take.

It did take a bit for the game loop to show itself past the tutorial bits, initially you're mostly alternating between two actions and without much feedback that could make the downtime feel slow.

Developer(+1)

Yup, it definitely takes way too long to get to the main game loop. It is mostly because I did not realise the conveyor was the heart of the game when I balanced the early game.

I also did not revisit the start with a more critical mindset. During testing, I could click through the first parts in less than 30 seconds, so I lost that new player perspective.

I will have to keep that in mind more going forward :3

Submitted(+1)

I think it lacks a bit of feedbacks and juice. The numbers that change are notably lacking in this department, as well as the UI
When you buy some upgrades, it's a bit annoying that they don't automatically launch (for example : The hour eater), I didn't understand at first what it did because of that (and the button is very smol).
But add a bit of polish, and fix the progression issues, and I think it could be a very cool game! Congrats!

Developer

The UI is definitely lacking, so thank you for pointing that out.

The automatic launch is not even something I would have thought of myself. You get so used to doing something one way that you do not realise it could work better differently. It is great to hear feedback like that, and I will definitely keep it in mind going forward :3

Submitted(+1)

This was very fun, really well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank You :3

Submitted(+1)

Definitely an interesting concept, though it has some progression issues, as many people already noted. You can really enjoy some clicker games once in a while - Nice Game!

Developer

Yeah, the early game could use a bit more to do; it really should be more engaging at the start, especially for a game jam game ;/

The late game could have been a bit more refined. I should have got more friends to playtest the end of it, as they would have 100% caught that as well. It's the problem of testing by yourself and knowing things ahead of time that let you speed through it. That got me to slow down at the start and end, as I was getting through them too quickly.

Submitted(+1)

This is quite an interesting concept, I had fun playing it

Developer

Glad you enjoyed :3

Submitted(+1)

Ok so I did end up completing it but boy was is not easy. Once you've unlocked the third stage of upgrades you do not really advance anymore but the symbols are just too bad to get to the end in a reasonable amount of time the intended way. BUT there are symbols that take no time to run, and it's possible to combine them in such a way that they can run continuously while generating resources and subtracting time. (The yellow work with some, NOT ALL upgrades, 3 green chill symbols and one book symbol). Combined with a 1ms autoclicker all I had to do was leave the PC for a couple minutes.

I think the idea is phenomenal, managing a countdown via a conveyor belt while the symbols keep becoming more and more complicated is very fun and unique. I enjoyed coming up with efficient combinations to maximize whatever resource I'd need next, but the games lacks content as mentioned above, though I don't really fault it for that being a gamejam entry.

Developer

Yeah, the yellow work fourth upgrade is a bait. 4 isn't lucky ;p It and chill are one way to get no cd loop.

You can get free vacations (no cd or gold cost, but it doesn't recover energy or stress) and use that to end the game with, but it needs you to get a good chunk of knowledge in the second stage saved up before you go into the third one, and not put any points into vacation extending life. As with it giving more life back, you can get the clock back up to 100 years and beyond, but it makes it impossible to finish with it.

The other way is to just upgrade sleep until it does 3 months at each click and click through with it.

The xY is there to get to the end if you did f it up somehow, but it needs you to save up money.

One funny thing I found is that sometimes you want to leave slots empty so you only rotate two or three things.

There are two more silly things you can get by the end game, but they are a bit harder to figure out, so I will leave them not spoiled ;p

Out of curiosity, did you end up resetting to get more resources from the first and second stage, or did you go without saving and skipping ahead?

Submitted (1 edit)

Thanks for the long reply on how the game works :D I did reset a couple times mostly because I dragged the still autoclicking mouse on a symbol that subtracts energy by accident, then on the final run I basically beelined for the upgrades I figured out would allow me to win. I also did not know it was possible to empty a space on the conveyor again, I tried but maybe I just did not figure it out?

Developer(+1)

You must have missed it when you bought it the first time ;( but good to know. I will add it to the description for people to know

Submitted(+1)

Sorry you had some upload issues. You did an awesome job on the art though!

Developer(+1)

It happens, my own fault for uploading at the last minute ;p
Thanks. Will make sure to check out your game.

Submitted

fun concept, but man it takes a looong time to advance, the goddamned red scwiggle fucked up my progress one to many times. i know that idle games and such are all kinda like this. it would be better with a shorter timer.

Developer

Yeah, it definitely needed more to do early on and a quicker way to get to the good stuff. That was a pretty big oversight on my part, especially for a game jam. I’ll keep that in mind for the next one ;p

Do i have to go to a link to download a working build?

Developer

It plays in the browser by going to https://html-classic.itch.zone/html/18553800/Fated Century/Death%20Countdown_BurstDebugInformation_DoNotShip/index.html?v=1785088796 (but it doesn't always have music working(), or you can go to the second project  https://losttimegm.itch.io/fated-centuryv2

The character design is nice!

Developer

She was the only thing I spent time drawing; every single other sprite was made in less than a minute each.

Submitted(+1)

WOW , that was really a fun game i like the character + the conveyer was genuise to use and the idea it self amazing ,nice work really , GG

Developer

Thank you, the conveyor was spur of the moment idea that turned into the core mechanic of the game :3

Submitted(+1)

Moira had a nice sense of humor, hoping she'll make another game with another theme too!

Developer(+1)

I think she probably will :3 Call it fate or destiny, if you will.

Outside the game, I also highly recommend reading about the Moirai, the Fates, from Greek mythology. They were the main inspiration for Moira, and their stories are fascinating.

And I’ll definitely check out your game once my brain has recovered from the whole build fiasco (I love cooking-themed games!). Discovering that the working version had been sitting inside the submitted ZIP the entire time, just buried in a subfolder, was certainly an experience.

Submitted

Would love that :D we had to do some novel build juggling stuff this jam, was fun to learn it and ship
