Every single tile has a count down on them that reduces every move, when it reaches 0 the tile dissapears, alongside with everything on top of it, enemies also have a count down to when they can move.

I died an embarrassing number of times to the pawns despite learning exactly how they move and attack half a dozen levels prior. I liked the level with the knights where they slowly take each other out until you only have the one remaining knight to deal with.

Developer

that level has multiple solutions in one of them two of the knights survive!

Great puzzle design! Avoiding enemies was a very fun navigational challenge.
As for constructive criticism, I think it would have been great if there was some way to see the tile durability without holding shift.

Developer

there is! theres a discrete durability view button at the bottom left it's a toggle, i didn't say it in the tutorial tho so fair that you missed it

Neat little puzzle game! The mechanics are straightforward but the level design is well done. The last few levels took me a few tries, but I never felt I was stuck, i.e. just the right amount of challenge! One of the best puzzle games I've played in the jam so far. Well done!

Very creative game with a variety of different enemies and mechanics that play into and make use of countdowns! The pawn enemy is my favorite as you need to actually plan your movement to avoid getting checkmated into the void  (pun intended)

Original, addictive, quite tricky as soon as level 4 !

Lovely idea, and using chess pieces as the enemies works really well on a grid. The tiles crumbling away looks great too. Movement felt a touch slow to me, especially on the longer levels. Nice work!

Check out my game if you get a chance, a chess roguelike called Final Gambit, you might like the pieces angle: /jam/gmtk-jam-2026/rate/4813276

The mechanic is very close to this year's theme, great job!

Very cool idea for a game, the level disappearing when the tiles run out is very satisfying to watch, you really nailed the game feel with this one. The chess pieces as enemies works really well on the grid system too, very creative!

Great game! I had fun playing through the levels, and the chess pieces are an interesting addition. Movement is a little slow but did not hinder the game that much. I also found myself constantly holding down shift while playing the game to see the tile health, which covered up the sprites but made the puzzles a lot easier. Also I love the little clock person!

There's a toggle button for a discrete view of the numbers at the bottom left

Cool game! I would say that the movement is a little slow though.

I'm a sucker for a good puzzle game (which this is).

Really enjoyed this one and I'm surprised how many levels there were considering the time given. Good job! 👍

Very polished game, nice take on the theme!

Very creative concept! The pawns and knights were a fun way to spice things up, although, like the others said the puzzles are a bit too easy.

Developer

difficulty is a hard balance because it really depends on the person, opinion seems to be be its too easy. yet there are many people who report getting stuck, best case scenario obviously would just be having easy and difficult levels just order them on difficulty but difficulty is hard to gauge when you're the one making the levels
