Really cute game! Quite a meaty platformer too content wise for a game jam. I like the controls I think dashing around (especially with the hooks) feels great. Some variable jump height and some other smaller polishes would go a long way to make this even good-er
Thank you! I was really satisfied with the amount I was about to sneak in within the time limit and I’m glad you liked the hooks especially as they are my favourite part! I didn’t even think about variable jump height haha
Impressive for a solo dev! Art and music are great.
Platforming is polished and feels good.
Only thing that I kind of didn't like was the dash not having an indicator on which side it was going to execute. I understood that each side of the screen was meant for the corresponding dash, but when there were quick movements, it sometimes pulled me to the other side...
Overall great job!
Thank you! Yeah thats a piece of feedback that i've had from friends since the jam. I think knowing the code behind it meant I missed that it can be unintuitive. I'm glad you liked the art, music and platforming!
Super impressed this game had me hooked, felt a lot like those classic flash games and I couldnt put it down till I actually got stuck LOL, I almost beat the level multiple times just a skill issue for me
Hahah yeah a lot of people had issues with the difficulty so don't feel too bad. I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway!
Loved playing this, reminds me of classic flash games on newgrounds and the like. Yours is by FAR my favorite vampire design of any game I've played in this jam and the animations look really great, movement feels smooth. Level design is the other standout, so many good secrets in the early levels and the "gloves off, hope you're good at this now" final level was fun. I am in no place to talk about difficulty though, as we also made a game that really requires people to put in the effort and possibly be ok dying a few times before they get it. Really fantastic especially as a solo dev!!!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! Character design and animation is my favourite thing to work on so I'm glad it resonated. I'm also kinda relieved that the level design and especially he little sercrets are getting some love cause i only had myself and my partner to playtest any of that stuff and platformers aren't really their thing. Thank you again for such high praise. I'll have tyo check out your game too!
I loved the art and the sound design is super gratifying
Thank you! This is the first time i have recorded my own sound instead of making it in chiptune so I'm glad it had the intended satisfying effect on someone!
The art looks fantastic! The movement feels great overall, though the downward drop felt a little too abrupt for me. I also enjoyed your take on the theme, even if it was a bit looser than I usually prefer. Great work!
Thanks so much! The drop down is one of those things i programmed and thought "eh good enough" in an attempt to use my time more efficiently. I'm glad you enjoyed my take!
Nice
Thank you for playing!
There is so much quality and good ideas here. I liked it a lot. I did end up rage-quitting after the 10th try of (what I hope is) one of the more difficult levels. I think I could use either a few lives or checkpoints, because the difficulty gets brutal. I also didn't understand the villager gates, really. They just feel like blood orbs you have to wait for, even though they are different thematically. Still, really good entry. I also really enjoyed the character controller, both the feel of it and the animation. It is so damn stylish, makes you feel like a predator. I also leave this note on most platformers, but an option to jump on W/up would be appreciated. Also, out of curiosity, what thoughts went in to designing when the player gets more blood points? Tying it into an invisible coin counter felt a bit odd as a player tbh.
And I'll give you a few backseat developer ideas: the blood points could be multipurpose "health" and movement. Killing the villagers could give you sun immunity. When you would die from the sun is a little unclear, and happens to be the death that made me stop (up high, where there is a blood orb in some sunlight after a long acrobatics challenge)
But that you made this in 96 hours is a wonder, really good job dude.
Hey! Thank you so much for all the feedback! If it makes you feel any better that last bit of sunlight is the final hazard for the whole game. My intention was originally to add checkpoints and a little bit more narrative to explain some of the choices but i ended up using that time to just try get more levels and mechanics in the final submission. Same goes with the coin counter; I could've put in a tally in the top corner but then it was the only UI element in a game with barely any meta elements and it felt a little weird. I really appreciate you taking the time to check out my game and write feedback. (Also I love all your "backseat" ideas from one dev to another)
Lol love a vampire pun. The artwork is all really great! It was a little challenging for me personally, but there are a lot of players better at platformers than I am who I'm sure would appreciate this! Really nice job!
Thanks so much! Art is definitely the thing i spend the most time on in these jams so I'm glad you liked it. I hope the difficulty wasnt too much of a deterrent.
feel like the theme could be used better, although the pun is pretty good
Haha yeah fair. Once I get an idea I like, I just kinda run with it regardless of how well it suits the theme (or how stupid it is). I hope you liked the game regardless!
It was really really fun, good movement is one of the most important parts of a game for me and this one has great movement mechanics.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad the movement is holding up to criticism and I'm extra glad you had fun!
