Hello! That's a simple but cute minigame. I like how you control the protagonist with a single button, but you can still have different sort of movements. I would've loved though a linear increase in difficulty since after a while it switches to hard and then it stops scaling. Also for some enemy formations I felt like avoiding damage was impossible, but maybe I'm wrong since I realize you can sometime dive under sharks (but maybe not all of them?). The theme or countdown is far from being the main focus unfortunately, but as long as it inspired you, it's totally fine!
Here's the VOD (game is at 2:25:00)
I like the pixel art—it's lovely. The game feels good to play.
The character's behavior when jumping out of the water is funny, and it adds to the game's charm.
One thing I'd like to see is a bit more feedback when you're running out of breath. Also, the seagulls blend into the background a bit.
Good job!
Great feedback! We wanted particle effects bubbles coming out of the players mouth but we ran out of time!
Super addicting gameplay loop! I love the rougelike aspect where you can buy upgrades. Nice work!
This is a fun game! The artwork looks really clean and the idea is very sound and has replayability. I really enjoyed the silly mechanics and the springiness of the player. The only issue I have is when I first loaded the game on the web build my player was skyrocketed miles into the air and it took forever for them to fall LOL.
Very fun to play, but it could use a lot of balancing. Once you unlock the shield, it becomes very hard to die. It's also not super clear exactly how the shield works, or when it's active. I might suggest that the shield should be a time-based thing, like it only lasts for a few seconds. Also, when the dash is active, it seems like a lot less stuff spawns. The music also stopped working after a bit. These things aside, there's a really fun game here, and I think you should continue working on it!
Good idea about the shield! Currently it gives you three free hits but yeah, there is no indication of it! We just ran out of time! Still don't know why things stop spawning and the music stops but we will fix these for the future! Thanks for all the feedback and checking out all of the content!
Performance issues aside, I liked the idea and enjoyed the ski and water physics. Music and art were also good but the menus and game feel (mainly audio) could be improved. Good work!
Great game feel and loop. Pausing the game at the right time causes an MASSIVE jump, had fun abusing this strategy.
ahahaha you discovered that glitch! (I think it stores your dive velocity when you pause. so if you pause and click a few times you'll get launched forever)
I really love the art style! Feels nostalgic even though I never played anything like it I think
Thank you so much! I doubt this is the first game with this kind of movement, but we couldn't think of one!
(if anyone knows of one similar, please let us know!)
The controls are super funn, its easily the best thing in the game. There can be more interactions in the game with more variety of fishes and flying birds. The interactions with the seagull can be more fun like some feather particles etc.
Super fun controls and game!!!!!
Thank you so much! We wanted to add feather particles but the feature just kept getting pushed until we ran out of time! But totally agree there can be a lot more feed back and juice to amp up those interactions
Nice!
Feels like a game I would play at school on an unblocked site
hahaha love this comment
The game feels really responsive, although it took me a while to realize that the birds can damage too
I love how responsive the game feels, and also a big fan of the water physics too!
the crash sound is so funny lol. I laughed everytime i crashed to shark and other jetskis.
I like your color palette for both the game and the itch.io page! Also the two-part life system concept (heart and breath) is interesting!
pretty cool game, its simple but it catches attention. It doesnt have much to do with the theme though...
Nice game. My highscore was 5,336 after my third try :)
Well done!
Love the game, love the physics of it. Very satisfying to control.
Quite addictive! The physics of the jetski is oddly satisfying, the way it bounces on the water. Good job!
I was vibing to the music. Nice polish for a jam game you all have your scope management in check.
I liked the movement, and most of all I liked crashing in to seagulls.
